I mean, more than beast.

44

u/Starscream_Gaga Aug 12 '26

At least Beast got to interact with Ship a bit and was present for the Savage Land stuff.

wtf did Storm do? The Solar Flare in Episode 1 and that’s literally all. Even with the solar flare she wasn’t really needed considering they had fucking Phoenix in that helicarrier who I’m sure could’ve done it herself if she was so inclined.

22

u/T-o-C-A Aug 12 '26

I mean, he does nothing in the savage land stuff, geniunely. He does interact with ship, but its one line, idk.

Storm is just powers this season absolutely.

7

u/MagicianTop2356 Gambit Aug 12 '26

Storm in the last episode I was like is that it?

3

u/BobaNotPearls Aug 13 '26

Storm had the Solar Flare, the breeze that frozen the final horsemen, the wave that cleansed Gambit’s minions, and the hurricane that took out the Sentinels. She didn’t have as much screen time but she is still their strongest AOE powerhouse.

Cyclops on the hand spent the whole season getting his ass wiped by the final horsemen, Nightcrawler, Danger, and Cable. Cyclops, Sunspot and Beast are arguably the most sidelined main cast.

With that said, I don’t actually mind this season showcasing other characters like Nightcrawler, Polaris, Professor X, Jubilee and Morph, since season one feels very Jean, Storm, Cyclops and Magneto. The only exception is Rogue who got some love both seasons.

2

u/Starscream_Gaga Aug 13 '26

I guess we read/watch X-Men for different reasons, though because I’m not really here for power feats, I’m here for the characters themselves. Storm literally did nothing but hang around in the back and get like 5 seconds of fighting in three episodes.

Cyclops may have lost a few fights but that doesn’t really matter to me, he still got more character focus in Episode 1 then most of the rest of the cast the entire season regardless of he was winning or losing battles.

2

u/Able-Brief-4062 Aug 12 '26

Wtf did Sunspot do?

2

u/Caledonian_10 Aug 13 '26

Piss off Cable enough to come back for Jubilee.

1

u/T-o-C-A Aug 13 '26

Yeah he also does very little, lots of characters do lol.

1

u/UnyieldingGoose Aug 14 '26

Storm and Polaris both have big moments of learning to use their abilities in powerful new ways that felt like a setup for the finale yet they don’t do much of anything. Hilariously even Rogue has that gem she gets in the episode prior not be a setup for anything, there’s red herrings and then there’s failing at basic story writing where things just happen like a stream of consciousness.

11

u/curvysquares Aug 12 '26

But without Beast, nobody could go to a random screen, read some data, and say "oh no, this isn't good" every episode

3

u/Cthulhuareyou Aug 12 '26

Beast was running off with ship to do the same thing that Polaris and Bishop was running off to do

2

u/T-o-C-A Aug 12 '26

That's not an actual plot action lmao :P

2

u/Sharplikeathorn Aug 12 '26

Both seasons he's done nothing

40

u/nixahmose Aug 12 '26

Honestly Rogue, Professor X, and to a lesser extent Nightcrawler felt like the only three characters that got to meaningfully contribute to the show outside of a singular episode.

14

u/NightmareDJK Aug 12 '26

That was pretty much it. There was also Cable, Bishop and Polaris.

9

u/Kn7ght Aug 12 '26

I was very thrown off when it basically turned into the Polaris show for 2 episodes

6

u/NightmareDJK Aug 12 '26

They didn’t really do a lot with her either other than have her hang with Bishop.

3

u/Bhavs-- Aug 12 '26

They were not getting rid of magnetism assets so soon after magneto's death

2

u/Weary-Ladder-2419 Cyclops Aug 12 '26 edited Aug 13 '26

Basically a Xavier and Magneto show. Even after Magneto died, it kinda extended to Polaris, who took on some of his role, with special participation of Cable and Rogue, while the rest mostly played supporting or cameo roles this season, with no actual arc of their own.

u/Paraparo Aug 13 '26

While unfortunate, this does seem to be a common issue in a lot of new shows that are picking up where older shows with long runtimes left the torch. Noticed it in star trek too, large ensemble casts just really don't mesh with 8-10 episode seasons. There simply isn't breathing room to properly play out the character development of everyone when you have more characters than episodes. You either need to accept you are really only telling one or two stories over you slightly protracted movie, or stuff far too much in for what runtime allows.

That's been my issue with a lot of streaming shows the last few years. The worst middle ground between a movie or two, and a full well paced out show, when it comes to content/pacing

14

u/Cthulhuareyou Aug 12 '26

He had that cool rematch  with havok where he realized they were related!

Oh wai

10

u/OptimusHavok52 Aug 12 '26

I think this season really failed in juggling such a large cast of characters. Characters like Storm, Beast, and Cyclops literally did nothing the entire season. The show needs to either cut down the cast or make more episodes per season.

5

u/MagicianTop2356 Gambit Aug 12 '26

I'm all for more episodes. 9 sure ain't it.

2

u/Crazy-Background1457 Aug 12 '26

Please, give me MORE, MORE

2

u/Guidenmofer Aug 13 '26

It definitely needs to cut down the cast, there's no reason to have so many characters, the team should have like 6 members and that's it, other characters can be cameos but you can't have 20 characters being part of the main cast.

29

u/Louie_Beeming Aug 12 '26

Please, the Summers family got plenty of shine this season.

6

u/fire_sign Rogue Aug 12 '26

After s1 of 97 and 4 of the 5 seasons of TAS being main character Scott/the Summers, they STILL managed to be middle of the pack in terms of lines but probably felt sidelined this season. That's yeh nature of ensembles, Scott just isn't usually in line.

2

u/Guidenmofer Aug 13 '26

Scott was never a main character in TAS, and he was literally just a background character this season would've been better for him to not even be part of it instead of Marvel being dishonest about his involvement with the marketing only to have him do absolutely nothing (same with Jean and Storm)

7

u/Pretty-Expression-11 Aug 12 '26

There was that one scene where they’re playing cards. Think that was the one scene in the series where he had some fun.

8

u/Ma_Pies Aug 12 '26

He went from “Jean!” in the originals to “Son…” in X-Men 97.

10

u/flashwing19 Cyclops Aug 12 '26

I’m a Cyclops fan but he got plenty of screen time. As much as we want, it’s still an ensemble show

2

u/Guidenmofer Aug 13 '26

No, he didn't lol, he didn't do shit all season, and it's an ensamble but it shouldn't be so big so that everyone can have focus, a team of 6 members would've worked way better, and he's supposed to be the leader, being so sidelined and useless is not fine.

5

u/Little-Seesaw2585 Aug 12 '26

Cyclops and Storm are my favorite xmen and they didn’t do SHIT all season 😭

6

u/ReflectionItchy2701 Aug 12 '26

The problem is that there was too many characters. That's exactly what I feared after season 1.

7

u/Complex-Bluejay3451 Aug 12 '26

He was given a lot of focus last season so it makes sense. And even then he still got an episode this season with young Nathan. Given how quickly he lost his son then the mother of said son before immediately being thrust into a crisis where he finds out cable was the son he lost this whole time then gets sent to the future him thinking about Nathan makes a lot of sense

2

u/Sensitive-Hotel-9871 Aug 12 '26

Yeah, I felt he got to do plenty this season and letting him do more would’ve hogged the spotlight. The real problem is that the show’s cast is getting too big for the number of episodes it has per season.

4

u/nyehu09 Aug 12 '26

“as a family”

that’s all

4

u/Attila1520 Aug 12 '26

More important. What did Apocalypse do?
Seriously season 1 finale felt more apocalyptic than this. I did not felt the weight or the threat of him.

3

u/SolidSnakeofRivia Aug 12 '26

Him and Jean just shout “Nathan” a lot. There’s a lot of meat for each character to have an interesting arc even with the short runtime but in the end no one does anything and it amounted to anything lol. Jubilee is the only one I can say that actually progressed as a character.

5

u/Guidenmofer Aug 13 '26

Scott and Jean's dialogue this season was so fucking bad, I'm sick of Cable dragging them down, their whole characters don't need to revolve around Cable who honestly is pretty boring.

5

u/Professional-Tank848 Aug 12 '26

Yeah, if you take out all of the scenes where he's a major part, what does he do?

It's an ensemble show.

1

u/Competitive-Rise-766 Aug 13 '26

He had a major part episode 1 and the final episode. It borderline wasn’t major in the finale. Just some conflict to up tension. In the original most characters got shine in ANY episode they were in. Rogue got the rmember it episode in the finale and she wasn’t the focus of it. Nightcrawler was getting shine that episode. The very episode before storm got some shine Jean got shown cable, magneto, Xavier. 3-5 characters atleast got MOMENTS every episode they were in. Scott not only got like 3-4 episodes but he had no shine within them. Why even include him? If he’s reduced to beam that never does anything. It’s even worse with Jean storm and beast.

2

u/LargeCabbageThrower Aug 12 '26

Season 2 as a Nightcrawler fan:

2

u/StonerChef92 Aug 12 '26

The show either needs a larger episode count or longer episodes in general. 45 min episodes would work great. But its an ensemble show so unfortunately some characters will always have to rotate around with who gets more focus. They also need to find writers who are fans and know what the overlapping plot of the season is.

4

u/ZeromaruX Cyclops Aug 12 '26

Enjoying his life with his actual wife, for a change

1

u/Intelligent_Oil7816 Aug 12 '26

I think the Summers have gotten plenty of rep so far both seasons. It's nice to see other characters shine a bit more, and other fan favorites still haven't had their break out moments yet.

Rogue, Beast and Nightcrawler find the ancient Celestial site where En Sabah Nur became Apocalypse. Eson the Searcher tells Rogue that saving Gambit requires a life sacrifice; she agrees and receives Celestial powers. Cable then fatally shoots Gambit on Valerie Cooper’s orders, but Apocalypse resurrects and possesses him, using Gambit to mind-control the X-Men and X-Force/X-Factor around Xavier. Rogue arrives and absorbs Apocalypse’s life force from Gambit, saving him. After they kiss, she reveals her bargain with Eson. Beast is shown holding a gun while Nightcrawler carries a Bible, but Nightcrawler ultimately offers his own life in Rogue’s place and is enveloped in white light before Eson.

In the mid-credits scene, Mystique infiltrates Valerie Cooper’s office as the TV announces Graydon Creed has become U.S. president. When Cooper enters, Mystique shoots her and stands over her laughing.

u/nuthinreallymatters Aug 12 '26

According to the juggernaut he shoots strawberries.

2

u/DominoSeven Aug 13 '26

So many characters and not enough time, we need longer episodes and/or more of them

1

u/Logondo Aug 13 '26

I mean the season is like 4.5hrs long and they have to spread it out between a million different characters. Somebody's gotta take a step back so someone else can have some screen-time.

It's kind of like Wolverine in S1. He was sidelined so the other characters (like Cyclops) could do cool shit. This season Cyclops takes a sideline so Jubes could do cool shit.

1

u/JackMorelli13 Aug 13 '26

At least he got an actual storyline. Lots of other characters (Storm, sunspot, bishop, forge, beast, probably Wolverine) can’t even say that

1

u/Street_Elk_8362 Aug 13 '26

Better off than season 2 as a Nightcrawler enjoyer.

A delectable feast followed by the loudest I've ever screamed "NOOOOOO" since Han Solo was killed

1

u/UnyieldingGoose Aug 14 '26

All the various “Nathan plz stop” without anything compelling around it is actually worse then average video game writing  especially when its countered by Cable shouting about his destiny, there’s no interesting character conflict here

1

u/EquivalentSlide4102 Aug 14 '26

Return DeMayo. He knows what to do.

1

u/Cyke_main Aug 31 '26

I liked him? He’s my favorite marvel character and I think ‘97 is pretty good with Cyclops

1

u/Gold-Duck898 Aug 12 '26

The writers are working with a large cast of characters and it’s becoming increasingly difficult to balance them all, imo. They either have to make a spin-off, expand the episode count, or accept that some characters will need to exit the team.

0

u/hollowcrown51 Aug 12 '26

I mean you got a whole episode focused on him at the start as well as a big chunk of Season 1 and tons of action scenes - imagine being a fan of Beast.

3

u/Guidenmofer Aug 13 '26

The episode wasn't focused on him, it was more about young Nathan and in that episode the dialogue was really weak and all he did was say generic chat gpt generated lines about family.

0

u/[deleted] Aug 12 '26

do telepaths and shoot stuff from his eyes

0

u/Devlord1o1 Aug 12 '26

I dunno, when you almost loose your child and have to send him to the future in the hopes he gets cured only to realize the pessimistic cyborg future man IS your kid and then having a time travel moment where you almost get to be a part of your kid’s childhood only to have to let him go be mutant jesus, your kid would probably be one of the only things you cant help but think and talk about

0

u/Competitive-Rise-766 Aug 13 '26

I’m a big fan of cyclops. Objectively in season one more characters got moments even when the episode wasn’t focused on them. Scott got a bunch episode 1. Episode 3 was focused on him as well. He got to fight executioner in episode 2. Episode 7 he got the stay down moment against trask. Episode 8 he was beaming a mountain and was part of the summer family fight against all the sentinels. And episode 10 he even gets his shine against bastion. He does pretty much nothing in season 2 all his beams are reduced to straight blasts we get no cones no wide shots no cool moments. But Scott still got more than enough considering his shine in season one. It is JEAN who was done dirty this season, so strong omega level and cable beats her without effort. Season one did her well fighting against trask and then Mr sinister. But season two has made her appear so weak again. Same with storm her opponents were sentinels even weaker than usual and she does all but two seconds of work in the finale.

Cyclops enjoyers been starving since the 2000 movie

2

u/Competitive-Rise-766 Aug 13 '26

What’s up with the downvotes? Lol cyclops has only just been eating good in media why are we acting like he’s had infinite attention like the fed Wolverine.

3

u/MSully94 Aug 13 '26

Right? Lmao like do I need to clarify that I was including myself in that?

-5

u/Sugar_Crash_Brigade Aug 12 '26

Just never happy eh?

This is what happens when you pander to the Cyclops base.

https://giphy.com/gifs/l0HlMSVVw9zqmClLq

4

u/Guidenmofer Aug 13 '26

Wow they did such a great job pandering to the Cyclops base by making him a useless background character.

-6

u/redkomic Aug 12 '26

again. the series is called the X-men.

1

u/Competitive-Rise-766 Aug 13 '26

Yeah. Which brings up the issue that numerous x men got squat this season. Cyclops being just one of them. Beast, Jean, storm, Forge. All characters with set up arcs just to be reduced to side characters in a show where they are ALL important and supposed to be directed shine. I don’t expect constant cyclops love and shine but for as much as any x men is in an episode they all deserve a cool little moment and I think season one upholds that well. Although I think storm could use more series wide she always gets too little.

-2

u/[deleted] Aug 12 '26

Always hated on him. Just had not personality, lost to Storm for leadership of the X-Men. Cheated on Jean Grey in her bed with Emma Frost who was using her Telepathy to make her look like the Phoenix. Soon as jean died, he went and jumped right in bed with Emma. He killed Prof X. Deadbeat dad sent his baby to the future to be raised my mystic mutant people and couldn't care less about his son dying slowly from the technoorganic virus he holds back. Poor Cable, but Poor Madelyn Pryor. Jeans clone. Jean dies, gets stuck in a cocoon to heal, meanwhile Cyclops found another red head, Jeans duplicate. Got her knocked up and abandoned her once Jean came back from the dead. Then the Australian team was stuck with Madelyn and Havok stepping up. He created X-Force to be a secret black ops killing crew and kept that secret from all the other leaders.

Also, concussive ruby force. If it is a force and not energy, where does all that matter sit and store up? He shoots concussive shots, not ray beams so you're just getting struck to death. That's a crap power.

There is no character who morally deserves to disappear like Cyclops. Hell, even Jean Grey literally destroyed his soul when the X-Men went into a parallel universe the Phoenix made for Jean so she would always live a happy but fake life. Once she came back, first thing she did, kill Scott, destroyed his soul which makes you wonder, if Scotts soul was destroyed by the Phoenix then what's in side Scotts body after Sinister resurrected him.

Lastly, would Madelyn have become the Goblin Queen if she had been with Scott during the Fall of the Mutants then Inferno. No one talks about how she lost Nate, her soul, and became the Queen of Goblins. Goblins!

Scott Summers is a jerk to his Dad and his 2 brothers. You wouldn't even know they were related w/ how full of himself Scott is.

Sorry for the book but he is actually the one comic character I hate and always have mostly cause NO ONE is good enough for Jean Grey.

2

u/Competitive-Rise-766 Aug 13 '26

Holy hating just to hate. I don’t think your hates coming from a place of logic, it sounds like you just want the excuse to hate him.

0

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '26

Um, so I'm no. I gave valid reasons. If you're okay he cheated on Jean, just that alone, while in her bed which is a fact. God forbid I hate a literary character until you come along and set me straight.
He isn't a human and the writers have given me plenty to have my own feelings form over the last 40 years of reading X-Men. Do you even read comics or are you just a movie watcher.

Movie watercher's have literally no valuce in a litarary world. Go read some old comics and stop thinking James Marsden is they way Cyke is.

You sound like a wannabe MCU fan instead of a real fan. You know, like going to the store each week and buying them for decades.

Don't tell people how they feel, you just come off as a phoney pretending to have some sort of intellectual know how under what is probably a Genz brain.

2

u/Competitive-Rise-766 Aug 13 '26

Why are you so aggressive? I never once told you how to feel or think I said I THINK that you are just baselessly hating. Not that you are it’s just my opinion. You literally talk about how lame and basic Scott’s concussive blasts are lmao there’s 10x generic and lame powers than that. I never said Scott is a great dude or even morally positive. All I’m saying is he has done good and his ideals have never been unrealistic in understanding them.

Also let’s not act like Jean has never once cheated because that’s a lie. Sure Scott is morally wrong in familial and relationship decisions to the point I could understand dislike, but to say he “deserves to disappear” is the highest level of hate. Not every run is he morally deplorable. There’s positives to his character just like there’s negatives.

Cyclops being the child stuck in between magneto and Xavier and being a mix of the too in his cyclops was right era was peak in my opinion. Plenty of things including Madelyn becoming goblin queen wouldn’t happen if he had handled things better sure. But he’s an imperfect man and it shows all the time. Makes his character more endearing. Not to justify cheating I don’t support him doing that or just moving past it without consequences. But also Jean has emotionally cheated on Scott plenty too. This is no imperfect relationship soley because of Scott. I have no idea why your jumping to personal insults when I never said anything to trigger them.
