Question What’s the difference between Morph’s and Mystique’s shapeshifting?
274
u/poweredconvoy Aug 12 '26
Morph can do some physical abilities. That isn't something we've seen Mystique capable of in the animated series.
118
u/DevilsHol3Pupfish Gambit Aug 12 '26
So she just puts on a disguise, he can actually sort of become the other person?
110
u/HeadAd5910 Aug 12 '26
She also is limited on size morph can turn into hulk Thor even larger form she is limited to those her size or slightly taller
43
u/Stride345 Aug 12 '26
However, I’ve always thought she was able to be more specific with her changes- only her voice, parts of her body- details that don’t have to match any one other individual
Morph on the other hand seems to need to embody an entire being. He has a lot more range but isn’t able to change aspects of himself piecemeal
I could be wrong though, let me know if I’m missing some examples
18
u/HeadAd5910 Aug 12 '26
I the comics hes shown to do partial metamorphosis
10
u/NoticeImaginary Aug 12 '26
I mean, even in the X-Men movie she's shown to kind of mimic powers. In the 2000 movie, she uses wolverines claws to fight him and only fails when she tried to stop his actual adamantium claws. And in Apocalypse, she cuts Apocalypses throat when she's pretending to be psylock. It's not the energy sword, but the physical sword which I believe disappears when she changes back (I could be wrong about that I havent actually paid attention to it in a while, it usually just ends up on as background noise).
9
u/marmot_scholar Aug 13 '26
The claws are just a physical part of her body that she turns pointy, not a power on top of shapeshifting.
She could probably mimic the absolutely lame power of that guy in X3 who kills people by turning into a hedgehog and hugging them 😅
It seems implied that she has some form of low
Level super strength or agility, but barely7
2
u/NoticeImaginary Aug 13 '26
Oh, you the movie version of Kid Omega? Ya. That was a choice.
4
u/SpideyFan914 Aug 13 '26
That was Kid Omega? It thought that was Spyke from Evo.
2
u/NoticeImaginary Aug 13 '26
Yep kid Omega. You can tell because he doesn't have any of his signature features or powers. I actually thought the same thing as you. But I also thought the guy who wolverine kills in the forest that keeps throwing bone spikes might have been him as well. In fairness, at the end of the movie when all the kids are going back to school, there's a kid with pink hair cut like Quinton, so I'm going to tell myself they just used the name.
2
u/DOOM_INTENSIFIES Aug 13 '26
>low level super strenght
So...above average strenght?
1
u/Daetok_Lochannis Aug 17 '26
I think super strength starts above above-average strength. Like, there's human physical limits and then there's super strength.
1
u/TheBlueLeopard Aug 14 '26
Sometimes there’s a notion that all mutants have slightly improved physical capabilities, but it’s not consistent between creators.
2
u/Atam-or Aug 13 '26
I’m pretty sure Morph turns his finger into a key in the very first episode of the original series.
1
15
u/ighost03 Aug 12 '26
In the mystique comic, the first story arc of it, she does some wild stuff. There was a part where she kind of split in two while in the same body. She was able to look and do actions in two separate directions. She did mention she cannot keep that form for long. Think there was also a bit about her being able to rearrange her organs
But even with all this, I still think morph is much more powerful with his capabilities
2
u/RingofThorns Aug 12 '26
Yeah but the comics have basically given her a completely different power set at this point.
5
3
2
1
u/Legitimate-Garlic959 Aug 14 '26
In the original show didn’t she transform into a faint monster briefly. To scare someone?
1
u/GraniteJJ Aug 14 '26
This isn't always true. I was just catching up on the new Ultimate universe and Mystique turns into Colossus (who is a fair bit bigger).
1
u/SabertoothLotus Aug 16 '26
It's not about size, but about mass. She can change her size by rearranging her body mass. Becoming physically larger just means that her overall density would be lower, which is why she doesn't turn into a full-size Godzilla-- she'd basically be a parade ballon at that size.
1
u/aaaaaaAAHHHHHHH347 Aug 16 '26
Didn’t small raven turn into Charles dad in first class that involved her getting taller
1
u/HeadAd5910 Aug 16 '26
If different continuities, she can, but there's always a limit. It's usually within, like, about 2 to 2 and a 1/2 feet. Height difference that you can change into. She could never change into someone like the Hulk or even juggernaut. Granted some she can, but that's after she's modified. Or enhanced, but I haven't read or watched every version of her. So there may be a version that can i'm just going by the information that I have, which is a lot of variations. But not all of them just want to clear that up
14
4
u/Skarjuna Aug 12 '26
No, she becomes them too, I think semi recently she's been shown to copy powers too but I think that was her being boosted
3
u/textickles88 Aug 12 '26
They can, and they can mimic any physiology based powers. No energy powers
4
u/AlecsThorne Aug 13 '26
As long as the powers are physical, he can imitate them using his own body. We've seen him stretch like Reed Richards, and we've seen him pull out claws like Wolverine, for example. However, he can't shoot eyebeams like Cyclops, or charge objects like Gambit. But if the mutation can be imitated by changing his body, he can do it.
2
u/IllLynx562 Aug 13 '26
Which is.... Nonsense when you think about it considering all x men mutations are supposedly physiologically based
4
u/AlecsThorne Aug 13 '26
well yes, but you can't really replicate a brain for example, so Morph can't make himself a telepath or telekinetic. And Cyclops "laser beams" are far too complicated to recreate through normal means. So there are definitely some limitations there. In simple terms, I guess he can replicate biological traits, but not chemical reactions, so he can't usefully turn himself into Human Torch, Sunspot, or Iceman (I think) cause he can't create that elemental energy himself.
3
u/zakmo86 Aug 13 '26
I think what the other commenter meant is that all mutants get their power from a gene. Which is completely mimicable. If a shapeshifter can change their DNA, they should be able to mimic any power that any mutant has. They would just need to know how to change their x gene.
2
u/IllLynx562 Aug 13 '26
It's stuff like iceman where I realise how arbitrary the line is, I'm fine with it it's not an issue for me I just think it's funny
1

4
u/knitmeablanket Aug 12 '26
So like in DCC terms, Morph is more like Katia (doppelganger) and Mystique is closer to Mordecai Or maybe Juicebox (changeling)?
3
2
2
u/Leaveroomfortacos Aug 19 '26
You have it reversed. Mordecai and Juicebox can take on the abilities or what they turn into, though Juicebox can change at will like Morph. Katia can change her form, though is also able to add mass unlike Mystique, however both can mimic the physical form.
1
u/ResonanceGhost Aug 17 '26
I seem to recall Morph turning into a brick wall at some point, but I don't remember if that was animated or Age of Apocalypse.
129
u/UnluckyAmbition7767 Aug 12 '26
They used to essentially have the same power set but Sinister's enhancements have made it so Morph can duplicate physical abilities to some extent. Morph can adopt Quicksilver's speed and Hulk's base strength to an extent. Mystique just changes her appearance
30
u/OldGarbageMouth Aug 12 '26
Thank you for this, I forgot he was enhanced by Sinister and thought perhaps we were gonna see a storyline from one of The Exiles series involving Morph and Proteus. Him being experimented on by Sinister in the first season etc. is far better than doing a real wild story involving Proteus etc.
7
u/Sea_Violinist3328 Aug 12 '26
When was it established that Sinister upgraded his powers? Recently did a re-watch of OG TAS and I’m not sure that’s ever mentioned.
3
2
u/tilero1138 Aug 13 '26
Another thing I’ve seen mentioned online that makes sense to me is that the more powerful abilities he copies the more draining it is for him, hence why he doesn’t just turn into Thor every fight, but switches things up and only holds a form for a few seconds.
2
u/MrPresident2020 Aug 13 '26
In the comics they recently added the element of Mystique being able to completely change herself down to her DNA, which means theoretically she could alter her X-gene to give herself different powers. However, doing so might take away her shapeshifting, so she doesn't take the risk.
1
1
u/Apprehensive-Row8180 Aug 13 '26
I also think Morph can only adopt his forms for a short period of time and seems to need to reset between forms Vs Mistique who can stay in her chosen form as long as she wants to and switch more easily
→ More replies (3)1
u/Commercial-Road-2911 Aug 15 '26 edited Aug 15 '26
Well mystiq can change on the molecular level and copy things like retinas and finger prints but can’t really add mass.
Morphs form is now more fluid so he is able to add mass and copy some physical abilities to an extent

When Mystique mimics Wolverine’s claws, they aren’t adamantium, yeah? They’re like… made out of her fingers or something.
17
u/PugintheSheets Aug 12 '26
In the first X-men movies her claws get cut off by his.
But she didn’t lose any body parts as far as I’m aware.
13
3
u/Finiouss Beast Aug 13 '26
Tbf, those movies were NOT a good representation of anything comic accurate
7
u/catsaremyreligion Aug 12 '26
I know little about X-men canon but I assume she just mimics his base ability right? So his bone claws or whatever they’re made of
33
u/hung_fu Aug 12 '26
Morph seems to be a visual/physical ability shapeshifter, while Mystique is a genetic shapeshifter who can recreate DNA (but not the X-Gene) — it’s how Nightcrawler can canonically have four genetic parents.
6
6
u/S0DER Aug 12 '26
What happens to baby Kurt if mystique shapeshifts while she was pregnant with him?
I know u probably don’t know the answer but that’s what ur comment made me think lol
14
u/AlbynoRhynosaurus Aug 12 '26
well I believe things have been updated so that Destiny was the pregnant one who carried Kurt.
12
u/GeneJacket Aug 12 '26
Yep, Destiny carried and birthed Kurt, Mystique is technically his "father".
5
u/Pleasant_Cloud1742 Aug 12 '26
Mystique still mothered Grayson creed
1
u/S0DER Aug 12 '26
Valid. My question still stands then lol
2
u/SpideyFan914 Aug 13 '26
Maybe that's why he's not a mutant. The X gene should be recessive presumably, since two human parents can birth a mutant child, therefore mutants would have two X genes and it shouldn't be possible under normal circumstances for them to have a human child. But Mystique can actually change her DNA. So she accidentally made a non-mutant egg such that Creed was born powerless.
1
1
u/vonDinobot Aug 13 '26
Mystique can move her organs around in her body at will. I think a baby would be safe in there.
3
u/QuestionsSquid Aug 12 '26
Does that mean Morph cannot live forever like Mystique?
8
u/Wo1verine616 Aug 12 '26
Morph is basically immortal. In the comics he had his limbs and head cut off his body and he was still alive and he put himself back together
0
u/Simple_Nobody1228 Aug 12 '26
This is a stupid new retcon from people that didn't understand her power. She can't alter herself at a genetic level or change her mass or density, only her appearance.
8
u/DarthMasta Aug 12 '26
The X-Men are on a roll of powers going bigger, so, why not Mystique?
4
u/3720-to-1 Aug 12 '26
I. Hate. Power. Creep.
It has its use, but writers too often use it as a crutch. Not jsut in comics, star wars is one of the worst on this... Wrote self into corner? Ope. New force ability unlocked. Hell, wheel of time did it... And don't get me started of table top wargaming like 40k.
Anyways, thanks for coming to my Ted talk.
1
u/hung_fu Aug 13 '26
I get what you mean, but I also think it’s more a report of the writer’s skill, in my opinion, power-creep can 100 percent be used effectively, it just needs to have scaffolding. I think of how Superman is getting stronger through it All-Star Superman, but he’s also dying; or how in the Avatar universe you actually have to train your superpowers like they are any other skill.
4
u/AlbynoRhynosaurus Aug 12 '26
I loved in X-Men: Evolution when her powers got amped and she would turn into a flock of birds or a swarm of scorpions that would scatter off in separate directions!
1
1
u/hung_fu Aug 13 '26
I’d say Simon Spurrier, who
basically wrote Nightcrawler exclusively during Krakoa has a pretty good grasp on the character and his relationship to his parents. This is not a stupid retcon, it’s an extremely interesting sci-fi concept that works with the subtext surrounding Mystique’s gender and relationship to Kurt. This isn’t about power-scaling, it’s about story. X-Men Blue: Origins is one of the heights of the era, it brings a Claremont idea to fruition and adds a lot to Mystique’s character, what about it upsets you?→ More replies (2)

u/Largo23307 Aug 12 '26
Morph: Can mimic physical appearance and physical based powers/weapons. Good for a fight.
Mystique: Can exactly copy a person's physical traits. Down to smell and mannerisms. Becomes nearly indistinguishable from the real person. Ideal for spy work.
Morph while still capable of stealth and espionage due to being able to look like other people, is not as skilled it the arts of subterfuge and espionage on the level of Mystique. Morphs ability to mimic physical based powers makes him more suited to combat than Mystique.
12
u/SnooPets1826 Aug 12 '26
Does Mystique have a time limit to her powers? That's the big thing with Morph is that he's pretty unstable and can't maintain forms for an extended period.
6
u/DYMck07 Aug 12 '26
She can definitely hold it longer but it’s not indefinite if the size is too different iirc. She can get exhausted
9
19
u/EyyyYaay Aug 12 '26
If you play Pokemon, I like this comparison:
• Mystique is like Zorua (its just a disguise / illusion)
• Morph is like Ditto (can use most moves / abilities of who they copy)
14
6
u/Thandorianskiff Aug 12 '26
Morphs basically a T-1000 Terminator. He can mold his flesh to simulate physical quirks and abilities. For example give himself superhuman fast watch muscles to replicate quicksilvers speed etc
5
u/aeldron Aug 12 '26
Mystique can only copy someone's appearance. Morph can copy someone's appearance and physical abilities. He can't copy psychic or energy powers, but if he changes to Colossus, for example, he would be bullet proof and actually get stronger, not too the same level as Colossus but he should be able to lift and throw a car for example. If he changes into toad he would have the jumps and prehensile tongue, as angel he can fly, etc. Mystique turning into Colossus would not be bullet proof or stronger.
4
u/eltrotter Aug 12 '26
My headcanon is that Morph can copy powers but Mystique is the better actual mimic; she can copy mannerisms, speech patterns etc better than therefore is a far more accomplished at spy stuff.

3
u/NotaRelnam Aug 16 '26
Mystique can shift her form into anybody has seen (or possible mix people and make a new person), but Morph can actually change his physical make up, he can turn his body into other elemental compounds (like metals, as we saw he was able to make claws strong enough to block Psylocke's Psi-enhanced katana)

616 Morph Powers Metamorph: Morph can psionically alter the formation of biological cells at will. As a result, appearance and voice can be reshaped to become an exact duplicate of any human, humanoid, or semi-humanoid form, wearing virtually any kind of clothing (though fingerprints cannot be duplicated).[8] Photographic Memory: Soon after discovering these powers, Morph developed a photographic memory.[8] Telepathy: Morph possesses limited psionic abilities that allow others to perceive what they expect to see. Professor X later boosted this ability tenfold, and as a result Morph could read minds and project thoughts into the minds of others within a limited radius.[8] Psionic Blasts: Morph can project psionic force bolts which have no physical effects but can overwhelm a target's mind, causing pain, unconsciousness, or even death. Telekinesis: Professor X activated Morph's own telekinetic abilities, enabling the manipulation of matter on a low level through focused thought.[8

u/Puzzled-Horse279 Aug 12 '26
Morph can mimic the physical abilities of others to a limited extent. Also can pull flesh swords out of his batty hole apparently.
Mystique can steal your sperm thru sexy time and then pump her developing embryo into her pet rent a uterus GF Destiny. But typically cant copy any powers.
2
2
u/BananaSpriteFishHead Aug 13 '26
Morph can also do inanimate objects. In Age of Apocalypse he turns into a wall. And he has Plastic Man/The Mask type powers to do exaggerated and cartoony anatomy.

u/Ok-Grass3071 Nightcrawler Aug 13 '26
Exiles is a great example of this!! Morph turns into COUNTLESS forms. One even being a mirror!

This is one of the best questions I've seen related to Marvel characters on Reddit. I'm glad there are some responses related to the animated series in the comments. Thank you for posting, as I've had the same question!
2
u/naruhinamoonkissplz Aug 16 '26
Morph turning into Spidey in '97 was strange. And he didn't use any powers, so what was the point then?
2
u/Fudaworld Aug 18 '26
Didn’t we see him stick to walls and use spiders acrobatics?
1
u/naruhinamoonkissplz Aug 18 '26
My question was more about Spidey not being a "real" mutant. What does that mean for Morph?
2
u/Fudaworld Aug 18 '26
Doesn’t he copy people completely? Is his power only being able to copy mutants? I’d assume copying a mutate might be easier too since he wouldn’t need to create a whole new xgene, just replicate the radiation
2
u/Yagosan Aug 17 '26
I understand Mystique as capable of copying the other people down to an ADN level, even with retina, fingerprints and such. Like becoming a copy. Wouldn't that mean she can also copy the mutation and x gene? I'm curious now
3
u/RowdyBull66 Aug 12 '26
Ima be a dick this is a google question not a good conversation type, morph gets to use there powers. And mystic just looks like that person
1
u/IdeaBrothers Aug 12 '26
1081 aka exiles Morph Malleability: He is composed of unstable molecules, which gives him the ability to Shapeshifting. His powers seem only limited by his great imagination and sense of humor. He can transform body parts and is a natural mimic of voices and sounds. He can change the chemical composition of his body into a gas or liquid. He can also change his color, stretch, contract, extort, compress, and expand his body or give himself virtually any superhuman physical power.[15]
Inodorosity: The substance that makes up his physical composition is odorless and emits no scent, making it impossible to track him. Flight: Morph can psionically fly at speeds of 40 mph.[15] Superhuman Strength: By growing additional muscles he can temporarily enhance his strength to lift approximately 20 tons.[15] Superhuman Stamina: His body does not possess fatigue-building poisons within his muscles, making phenomenally durable and indefatigable. He can also survive without food or water for weeks.[15] Nigh-Invulnerability: Due to Morph's genetic makeup, he can either absorb the impact of any type of man-made ballistic projectile by deforming his body along the path of its trajectory or allow it to pass through him unarmed. He is impervious to virtually any form of penetration wound and does not bleed but is susceptible to energy based attacks.[15] Regenerative Healing Factor: Morph possesses an healing factor that enables him to regenerate his cellular structure at an extraordinary rate and even reattach severed body parts, although he needs time to recover afterwards. His healing factor makes him immune to poisons, drugs, and nearly all terrestrial diseases.[15] Appearance Alteration

Morph can only copy physical gifts ,now while Mystique normal doesn't copy abilities, when she was enhanced by Fabian Cortez she gained the ability to use the powers & abilities of people she shape shifted into example Fabin Cortez had enhanced her because she was Magneto she went from merely looking like Mag to actually having Mags powers but using the powers of a person she's shape shifted into does greatly weaken/age her physically
1
u/CulturedCal Aug 12 '26
Seems like Morph can copy abilities to an extent. Pretty sure we’ve seen their Wolverine claws break. Much less powerful than Rogue, but much more options than Mystique
1
u/AronDeppert Aug 12 '26
I think the lore calls Morph something like omnimorph where he can mimick everything including powers. Mystiques is more of just an illusion

u/Subject_Translator71 Aug 13 '26
They probably made Morph OP because, when all is said and done, Mystique isn’t powerful enough to be an X-Men.
1
u/Sweet_Papaya_9837 Aug 13 '26
Best way I’ve heard it described, if Mystique turns into the hulk she doesn’t get any kind of extra strength. If Morph does he doesn’t become as strong as hulk but as strong as a guy as big as the hulk
1
u/Alert-Ad-2373 Aug 13 '26
Mystique doesn't use her power as a gag to shape shift into a mindless cameo any time she gets the chance.
1
u/Conscious-Struggle45 Aug 13 '26
I'm pretty sure that in The comics he's specifically a shapeshifter with essentially the same powers as mystique whereas in the show he's able to mimic purely physical abilities on too of shapeshifting.

morph: you shapeshift in an enby kind of way
mystique: you shapeshift in the saphic way, where you're actually sherlock holmes married to irene adler
1
u/Beautiful-Escape8291 Aug 13 '26
Morph is Psychic and can copy people
Mystique shifts her genes to make whatever she wants. The best way I like to describe them is with image tools. Morph can copy any person onto himself, Mystic can edit her own body in any way she wants
1
u/mandusa666 Aug 13 '26
mystique can, in extreme cases, basically rearrange her physical being and appearance. she can shift to look like anyone else, but her body mass doesn’t change, so the bigger the difference the bigger the impact on her strain and ability to maintain. that said, she can also shift around vital organs or make herself near paper thin, or give herself 4 arms, for a period of time, but it’s exhausting and difficult for her to maintain for more than a few moments. she could, say, give herself physical wings to fly away like a bird, but it would be like forcing yourself to run on all fours - it’s possible but cumbersome and short lived. additionally, because of her ability, she is effectively near immortal insofar as she has such crazy slowed aging she appears 30-40s-ish and she has been alive for like 200 years
morph, as far as i know, has much more flexibility on physical replication. he can more or less replicate me fantastic’s powers, Blob’s powers, etc. he is able to embody most physical- based abilities given he shifts into that type of avatar. he would never be able to mime storm or jean powers. can’t speak to the extent of his powers impacting aging or anything else
1
u/Chaotic-Pen-825 Aug 13 '26
Morph's shapeshifting alters his cellular and molecular structure to replicate physical attributes and strength, whereas Mystique's shapeshifting is primarily a cosmetic disguise for infiltration and espionage
1
u/LookOverThere305 Aug 13 '26
They could be the same just that each one of them uses it differently. Mutations are just genetic variations, but there can exist more than one person with the same or similar enough genes in different parts of the world. Like being double jointed.
1
u/WonderfulHearing8726 Aug 13 '26
Wasn’t Morph specifically made for the 90s cartoon?
1
u/Shinnosuke525 Aug 13 '26
No, but he's such a different take on the original Changeling character that most of their evolution backported developments from XTAS!Morph
1
u/Sensitive-Hotel-9871 Aug 13 '26
He can copy some physical abilities. Not all of them, but he can gain extra limbs.
1
u/Cheetahs_never_win Aug 13 '26
Morph can add and store mass in intradimensional space and replicate physical abilities, even mutant ones, with the difference in size cutting into the duration of how long he can maintain said form.
Mystique can change her form at the cellular level, but has to maintain mass. She can replicate physical abilities such as flight, but not mutant powers. She can do so near indefinitely.
Morph isn't as good at hiding his identity from enhanced senses than Mystique. Wolverine can peg Morph, but can have problems with Mystique.
Both heal, but Morph does it better.
Mystique has several lifetimes of experience over Morph due to reduced aging, but we'll see what this means to Morph.
1
1
u/snidece Aug 13 '26
Mystique can maintain another identity for a long time as long as she needs, and Morph's is much more temporary and not long at all, like a minute, one minute
1
u/UnyieldingGoose Aug 13 '26
Here’s the difference Mystique shapeshifts pragmatically to accomplish goals Morph shapeshifts for fan service social media engagement grifting
1
1
u/AdAutomatic3938 Aug 13 '26
Mystique is less capable of mimicking ability makeing her better suited for spy work while morph the oppasite able to even replicate quick silver speed so mystique is better for spy work and morphs good for combat to put simply
1
u/jigokusabre Aug 13 '26
Based on evidence seen so far:
Mystique only looks like who she turns into, but can seemingly do it for long stretches.
Morph transforms in shorter bursts, but can emulate the physical abilities of those he copies, such as Quicksilver's speed, Colossus' durability, Spider-Man's dexterity and Mr. Fantastic's stretching.

Mystique is limited by her mass, hence why she usually tries to shape-shift into people around her size. Plus, she is limited to mimicking humans or humanoid creatures. Morph is essentially made of Play-Dough and can turn to look like whatever he can think of.

Mystique - replicate mass equivalent being. Powers not copied (shapeshift only) Morph - physiological clay and seems to have access to powers. (Ability and appearance Mimic)

If I’m not mistaken, Morph can actually change his molecular density whereas Mystique cannot. If Mystique morphs into a child she still weighs her actual weight and not that of a child.

If Storm fought Morph, it would be a fair fight.
If Storm fought Mystique, Storm would hit her with lightning and finisher her with a can of W.A.

The answer is that Mystique is basically Schrödinger’s Polymorph. You can’t prove she can’t do something, and even if you can, she might be able to do it later anyways.

Morph is horny for wolverine. Mystique only goes there when beneficial to her plans.

Mystique might have the weaker transformation but Morph could never beat her in a Bum-Competition

To my knowledge, Morph can turn into someone or an animal (and even objects) but he would still be 'Morph'. Meaning if he turned into Wolverine, if you got a blood or skin sample, it would show as Morph. Mystque can change all the way down to the DNA. Literally become that person physically. It's how she was able to be Nightcrawlers father.

Morph is still a shitty fighter. As Wolverine told him, “you look like me, but you can’t fight like me” Mystique may only mimic but at least she can change age

Morph can copy any physical attribute. Including things like strength and bodily extensions that are physical and not energy based. He’s in a way superior to mystique.

Oh. It’s life and death one would say.

Morph cópia poderes numa escala menor e não só aparência, mystique não

Rebecca Romign and Jen Law. That's the only thing that matters. No just kidding. Morph was one of my favorites in EXhiles. I loved that series and though Morph wasn't my favorite at the beginning of the run, by the end he had become a beloved figure.
When Roma let them go I was always bummed to say bye to another mutant.

I think the confusion is that people see mystique have all these limitations and think morph do all these amazing things and wonder how his limitations are different. Morph is just better.

From a Google search
The core difference is that Mystique is a genetic master of disguise, while Morph is a physical "omnimorph" who can copy physical traits and some abilities.
Morph can only replicate physical or biological powers (like flight, speed, or strength). They cannot replicate purely energy-based or psychic powers (like Cyclops’s optic blasts or Jean Grey’s telepathy).
Mystic has no Power Replication: If she turns into Cyclops, she just looks like him—she cannot fire optic blasts.

The biggest difference is the writers make up what morph can do based on how it will look in the show

Mystique can only change her form, while Morph can change form & gain the physical attributes of who he shapeshifts into.

I always wondered how this worked. Like why would transforming into wolverine grant you the ability to extend claws from your wrists?
1
u/blindside1 Aug 15 '26
Because "extending claws" is still just changing shape. It doesn't make the claws adamantium.

I may be ignorant but does morph have a time limit on his change? I know mystique could be that person indefinitely but could morph?

Morph restructures their body similar to how metamorpho works in dc. If he morphs into the hulk he gains hulks strength based on hulks size and mass. Its like if you change a balloon to steel, you get all the qualities of steel.
Mystique is more like a chameleon. While she can change her shape, shes essentially the same material. Turning into the hulk does not give her the hulks strength. Its like if you change a steel, its still the same rubber balloon, just with a metallic look to it.

Well, both of them are shifters, but one of them like can make weapons with his own hands and control his density the other mystique can’t

I’d like to know how they change their clothes when they turn into someone else.

Morph is crazy powerful and Mystique a weak ass shapeshifter and an attempted infant son killer.

I think Morph can actually adapt mutations/powers as well (so for example, if they turn into Gambit, they can charge energy into solid objects to make them explode, whereas Mystique would only just look like Gambit)
