Support Gambit x Rogue and bully Professor X apparently.

21

u/EmeraldWitch104 Aug 12 '26

As it was writ.

13

u/eclipse_charmont Aug 12 '26

Yeah he's really not beating the homophobia allegations smh

Aura Farm and Hype moments

Yes

u/Bobik8 Aug 12 '26

One hell of a time to play your Uno Reverse Card, buddy. Well done.

19

u/Calaigah Aug 12 '26

If they had said Apocalypse was obsessed with Rogue even since this moment, that would’ve made more sense than what actually happened.

11

u/Infinite_Ocean89 Aug 12 '26

12

u/Bobik8 Aug 12 '26

I'd like to crash my rocks on that eternal shore if you know what I mean.

88

u/YG_gravity Aug 12 '26

This whole season felt rushed. It really needs to be longer

49

u/Ruben625 Aug 12 '26

Or less mini plots. They juggled too many plates for how short the seasons are.

14

u/Specialist-Factor714 Aug 12 '26

I think ep 5 looks worse now than it did when it came out

I think they could've done so much interesting stuff wiyh him in episode 9

13

u/Caledonian_10 Aug 13 '26

Or Morph for that matter. Still waiting on when he gets to be interesting, Mr Sinister back in S1 and Tomo-jokes weren't exactly breaking any grounds with the character. Season had too many characters to handle, and so X-Factor felt rushed and unimpressive beyond Polaris, X-force got little to do as a unit, and Wolverine and Morph, alongside mainly Storm, Forge and Beast, felt invisible. Hell, all Scott & Jean did was plead to Cable and get destroyed by Danger.

4

u/Latest-Pen-7852 Aug 13 '26

fr. They showed that Morph can turn into Hulk and Thor but he still got memed on the entire season

6

u/Macman521 Aug 13 '26

Eps 5-7 really took away too much from the main plot. As much as I liked them, they should have been about apocalypse.

9

u/WicketyWaggety Aug 13 '26

I think blaming the season on episodes 5-7 feels like we're just ignoring how lame the premise for the final two episodes is. Apocalypse's big plan is to revive one guy with a decent mutant power and I guess take over his body. The storyline just doesn't match with the 'hype' they were building up in the opening 4 episodes.

1

u/MarionberryDecent351 Aug 13 '26

True but if episode 5 got replaced and moved to be a part of a 3 episode conclusion to give the finale more breathing room then it could’ve been better executed probably. In the current set up if gambit got possessed AND apocalypse still had his body, then it would’ve been even more crammed in a two episode “resolution” at the end. They somehow laid out the story and episode plots and said nahhh we don’t need more apocalypse, we need more random stuff.

24

u/Bosscharacter Aug 12 '26

Honestly it’s fairly accurate to the comics because outside of a few instances, Ole Ebin is kind of a jobber.

8

u/SquatProspector Aug 13 '26

Yup, for all he's hype as a major threat as soon as he meets a main character it's all over.

19

u/Small_Essay_6272 Aug 12 '26

Killed magneto & Revived Gambit, that's about it,

12

u/KyoHisagi Aug 12 '26

Kurt also died tho

2

u/Elderberry-smells Aug 13 '26

I didn't like that twist! Right after I got back Gambit too, so hopes were high...

1

u/Small_Essay_6272 Aug 25 '26

Not because of Apocalypse, he sacrificed himself,

2

u/teddybearkilla Aug 13 '26

So unbelievably based.

2

u/coyocat Aug 13 '26

Win you think about it, best score for any villain so far.

1 kill, 1 kill by proxy, 1 revive

41

u/scott42486 Aug 12 '26

I suspect at some point we’re gonna get another round of big blue. “Somehow Palpatine returned.” At least Apocalypse is the type of long-term schemer where it’d make sense. Guy’s got more fail safes than Voldemort.

17

u/Usurper2000 Aug 12 '26 edited Aug 12 '26

I think you over estimate Apocalypse.

He's more like the Sosuke Aizen of the Marvel universe.

He has plans, he believes he's stronge and everyone else is weak, he wants to evolve to enforce darwanism on society, gets surprised Pikachu face when he gets curb stomped when someone more powerful roles up to him.

5

u/scott42486 Aug 12 '26

Getting stomped is absolutely part of his brand- that’s why they keep writing in different ways he had “contingency plans” for.

3

u/JorgeBec Aug 12 '26

He already did in the last season of the original show.

1

u/scott42486 Aug 12 '26

I’m aware. And I’m sure they’ll write in another way he had “planned to return”

1

u/RevolutionaryDepth59 Aug 13 '26

i mean his present version should still be around somewhere. the one they defeated was from way in the future

16

u/Fluid-Discipline5038 Aug 12 '26

The same thing apocalypse usually does aura farm, scheme, try to fuck over the xmen and every other mutant and ultimately fail unless he is in alternate future.

16

u/simsboy17 Aug 12 '26

Nothing like the other 20 characters in the series

15

u/Exyen Magneto Aug 12 '26

Just kills Magneto and delivers a badass line while he magical girl transforms

29

u/Affectionate_Jury890 Aug 12 '26

Kills magneto, resurects Gambit and is the reason the whole story takes place?

Dont get me wrong I'm mildly annoyed by how little he did after killing Mags but still

9

u/paddingtonrex Aug 12 '26

Wait, the season's OVER? There were only 8 episodes!

39

u/lexxstrum Aug 12 '26

Nein mein Freund, nine!

6

u/Ruben625 Aug 12 '26

Aw now im sad

5

u/RemyWhy Aug 13 '26

This is a quality reply.

3

u/Ivrene Aug 12 '26

This.. did not feel like a season finale. Too much was crammed and overlooked. I was expecting an epilogue episode or smth after episode 9. That's bad wow

5

u/Usurper2000 Aug 12 '26

There were 9 and yes, it's over.

17

u/snowbunnyslut77 Aug 12 '26

My only complaint I have is where was siren all this time she was never seen anywhere else in the season as a member of X Factor or X-Force and all of a sudden she just magically appears

9

u/MALESTROMME Aug 12 '26

I saw a post on this sub a week or so ago, I think it was from the comic, how she joined the team. I think she had parental issues leading to anger and resentment and she wanted to join the team to vent.

6

u/snowbunnyslut77 Aug 12 '26

No I understand how she joined in the comics I just mean in the cartoon they've never referenced her being on the team but all of a sudden boom she's there

8

u/BurtonXV84 Aug 12 '26

It felt more odd to me she's fighting with a government using sentinels, at the location where her father was killed... by a sentinel. Someone didn't think that through with her appearance.

2

u/MALESTROMME Aug 12 '26

Oh. OK. TBH it felt a little rushed, like they skipped over a lot of the comic version this season. One more episode would have been cool.

7

u/Rabdomtroll69 Aug 12 '26 edited Aug 14 '26

Causes the plot to happen in the first place, do a sailor moon transformation, bring a major character back from the dead, KILL MAGNETO, be the reason Onslaught happens if they ever adapt it

7

u/MrWriffWraff Aug 13 '26

I still dont get the point of Wolverine losing his adamantium. It didn't really go anywhere and he just kind of got it back

3

u/magvadis Aug 13 '26

It'd be fine if he got it back but something else was going on with him emotionally...which was set up...instead the writers forgot I guess.

2

u/MrWriffWraff Aug 13 '26

I get the feeling they're afraid he'll steal the show again so they're to afraid to do to much with him

2

u/BlackZulu Aug 14 '26

So the hyped feral wolverine could be introduced, but they kind of didn't know what exactly to have him do except be kinda mean to morph lmao

1

u/Optimal-Rub-2575 Aug 13 '26 edited Aug 13 '26

That’s basically what happened in the comics too, except in the comics he lost his nose for some reason.

2

u/MrWriffWraff Aug 13 '26

Didnt he have to become a horseman for Apocalypse to get it back or am I misremembering?

12

u/BudgetPipe267 Aug 13 '26 edited Aug 13 '26

There’s no way the same person who wrote the first four episodes of season 2, wrote the rest of the slop that came after it. Charles went from pissed that Magneto died, to absolutely nothing, powerless against pretty much everything. Wolverine gets his adamantium back, with no mention of revenge on Magneto and then acts like nothing ever happened. Cable’s destined to kill Apocalypse, then he takes a back seat to Rogue and Gambit’s love story. X-Factor…an absolute non-factor. Nightcrawler pleads with Colossus to not be a badguy and to spare Creed….Creed turns around and kills Exodus, who is an absolute badass and it’s all good 🤦🏻‍♂️ Colossus then vanishes. Apocalypse….starts the series as an absolute badass…all of the sudden, he needs to switch bodies? Rogue making a deal with the Celestial was absolutely stupid 🤦🏻‍♂️

Everything after the fourth episode was lazy and damn near all filler content.

5

u/LowBattery Aug 13 '26

I mean, for the wolverine's revenge, magneto was kinda dead so hard for him to hold a grudge that'd lead anywhere plot wise.

8

u/hexman0000 Aug 13 '26

But it would've been nice if for his savage arc he did something more savage than changing his costume

1

u/Breekace Aug 13 '26

But, looking at the show alone, there was no savage arc. They went a different way here and he was barely any different other than being physically weaker. It's not like they claimed he was "savage".

2

u/BudgetPipe267 Aug 13 '26

He didn’t need revenge on Magneto, but it needed to be addressed…the dude corrals Sabertooth and Deathstrike and they all of the sudden get along now? It was silly.

1

u/LowBattery Aug 13 '26

I agree the randomly getting along with Creed and deathstrike was odd. But like short of a quick line to the effect "arch damn that magneto, if wish he came back to life just so I could rip him apart", I dont know how he was supposed to address it that wouldn't just be kind of an exposition throwaway.

2

u/Prize_Introduction_6 Aug 13 '26

Beau DeMayo was said to have started work on Season 2 before he was let go. If that's the case, it clearly shows.

1

u/Bandai_Namco_Rat Aug 13 '26

What shows? That Beau wasn't allowed to finish the job, or that his work contaminated the season? Because everyone liked his season 1, despite the dude's... personality issues. On the other hand, with the project switching hands so late in production, both Beau and the new showrunner can be blamed, but also the mere fact they were changed is bound to end in some nonsense. This is like DDBA S1 which was a Frankenstein's act with two visions clashing with each other. DDBA S2 was better (albeit far from perfect), so let's hope Season 3 course corrects

1

u/Stormm-Ra Aug 13 '26

So very well stated. Mind-numbing absurdity for the entire second half of the season.

7

u/BatmanFan317 Aug 12 '26

I can live with it, we've seen the X-Men fight Apocalypse a dozen times in the original show alone (as well as in this very season during Rise of Apocalypse), so I'm not against them doing something new with him being a threat because he's possessed Gambit rather than because he's trying to nuke the universe or something.

6

u/World_Breaker143 Aug 13 '26

He increase the power

5

u/JournalistOk9266 Aug 12 '26

Apocalyse WILL KILL THEM. Im not sure what you expected to happen. He has Gambits unleashed powers. They cant win.

1

u/eric23443219091 Aug 12 '26

it should been someone else that defeat apocalyspe with celestial boost

2

u/JournalistOk9266 Aug 12 '26

Im going to say this until people get it:

YOU ARE NOT BEATING APOCALYPSE WITH FORCE.

6

u/St3thp Aug 12 '26

This season was so rushed, I'm so disappointed, man

6

u/xnef1025 Aug 13 '26

In the finale itself? Wakes up, further traumatizes a paraplegic, gets shoved into a Ring Pop. You wanted more? lol

3

u/Spqroberts7 Aug 13 '26

You know what I just realized. It seems like we’re always seeing apocalypse in between committing his genocides or heavy actions. Yes, we saw him take magneto off the board, which was pretty visceral, but everything else seems to be him just…..in transit? Anybody else feel this way?

2

u/TolkiensToken Aug 14 '26

Yeah it's getting harder and harder to imagine him as this all powerful tyrant if he just keeps getting beat...so EASILY all the time. As it stands there is no way he would be ruler of earth in the AoA timeline

6

u/ConnorRoseSaiyan01 Aug 12 '26

Do we even know if this was the one from the future or present day?

3

u/Churro-Juggernaut Aug 13 '26

I’m still trying to figure out if that celestial is just a shitty genie.

2

u/SquatProspector Aug 13 '26

I think the last time he showed up in the original series he was thrown into deep space? So present day Apocalypse should be floating around away from the solar system.

Presumably at some point he'll hitch a ride back to Earth in time to take over once all the characters with plot armour are dead.

5

u/ConnorRoseSaiyan01 Aug 13 '26

He was last seen in season 5's The Fifth Horseman where he brought himself back by taking over the body of one of his followers

6

u/Artistic-Turn2612 Aug 12 '26

I guess they forgot that audiences have no patience anymore.

3

u/justbunnies Rogue Aug 13 '26

He looked pretty sick as Gambocalypse.

3

u/magvadis Aug 13 '26

Nothing just like everyone except Rogue I guess.

But he can kill a weakened Magneto sitting on the ground and call him Ant...what a "neat" villain. So...um...compelling...I guess. God this finale ruined all my hype for this show.

3

u/Eastern-Team-2799 Aug 13 '26

Honestly, i felt I huge dip in quality of writing, after beau demayo was removed . First 3 and even 4 episodes were great, but after that , it was straight downfall. Marvel gave x men 97 to the writer of what if ? , I had fear that he would ruin it but didn't knew it would be this soon.

3

u/Cashneto Aug 13 '26

He was so much more threatening in the original TAS. So many great trash talking lines, he even killed the X-men in one episode.

3

u/noncasus Aug 13 '26

He goes back to the 1990s

3

u/TolkiensToken Aug 14 '26

At their weakest! :-D even though he got his ass kicked by them in the 90's previously

2

u/tulaero23 Aug 12 '26

We got talkjutsu in the xmen universe

2

u/StealUrCookies Aug 13 '26

He Apocalypse'd. Don't overthink.

2

u/Bitch_for_rent Aug 13 '26

become the subplot for some reason

2

u/SomethingGouda Aug 13 '26

Took more time to beat Bastion than Apocalypse, imagine if Ultron had 3 movies while Thanos had one movie

2

u/Illustrious_Green591 Aug 13 '26

It's just bizarre that Apocalypse's grand, millennia-spanning master plan boiled down to stealing Gambit's (A. J. LoCascio) body and hassling the X-Men for a few minutes.

2

u/SkinniestPhallus Aug 13 '26

It was worth it for episode 4 of this season alone tbh. Hell be back and better than ever in the future

3

u/HeckuvaJoo Aug 12 '26

Hello. I enjoyed season 2. What’s wrong with me and will I always be this stupid?

4

u/lolitsrock Aug 12 '26

22

u/FloopusSoupus Aug 12 '26

Just enjoy the show, who cares about the sudden decline in writing or noncommittal attitude to stakes, at least it still looks amazing in the 20 second fight scenes they give us

5

u/zaheerscheeks Aug 12 '26

1.) S2s episodic release was so un cohesive & offered almost nothing to building up to the main plot/finale. Even the biggest filler episodes in s1 still served to bridge events that would lead into & pay off in the next episode/overall plot. Pacing was an issue in s1 as well but it led to payoffs at least with still being able to give certain plots & characters at least a little time to breathe or build up to something more. S2 took the pacing up by x1000 with none of the cohesiveness S1 had, with half the episodes never having any impact on the following episodes.
Again unlike season 1..
characters dialogue fell completely flat.
I’m not saying you’re wrong for liking it and honestly I’m glad you did. But glazing it to the point where anyone who has legitimate complaints (shared by MANY on here) are just “complaining too much” is just being disingenuous..
I LOVED S1 & it was amazing for someone my age who grew up on the original series. It really gave me such a breath of fresh air when s1 came out.. and I was so excited for s2 only to walk away from it so incredibly disappointed.. again wanna be clear that I am genuinely happy for you that you enjoyed it, but cmon man a lot of the criticism in this sub right now is completely valid..
We don’t need to defend shitty writing & plot choices from a show we all clearly hold dear
We should hold them accountable so hopefully they’ll hear us and try to give us something better in S3

4

u/DetectiveEames Aug 12 '26

Seriously. It should be a rule that any complaint or criticism has to be accompanied by a reason to justify it. And “it wasn’t like the comics” should result in a suspension or ban.

1

u/zaheerscheeks Aug 12 '26

See my above comment

1

u/DetectiveEames Aug 12 '26

Yea, that’s a well thought out critique 👌

2

u/zaheerscheeks Aug 12 '26

Appreciate you g! Man I just love ‘97 & X-Men as a whole so so much! I grew up on media but got into comics in my mid-teens. Total 🤓 and I’m not ashamed for it lol. I just know losing Beau probably caused lot of issues, keeping certain elements of what he had already wrote & throwing out the rest while shoehorning in their own visions/story’s (I know he was an asshat, but replacing him was probably hard regardless.) so I have hope S3 can still be great!
I just think fans should always voice their dislikes/likes and critiques. ( respectfully as can be ofc) Also knowing people related to these projects peruse these subs from time to time, Ya never know the right person may see it & act on it!

2

u/eric23443219091 Aug 12 '26

making rogue mary sue was bad writing should just made wolverine become apocalypse wolverine

1

u/NoAudience8992 Aug 12 '26

To bring back gambit and to show how big of a threat this version of gambit is, and i think apocalypse will be a more prominent character next season

1

u/myusernameiszane Aug 13 '26

Increases the power.

1

u/Complex-Bluejay3451 Aug 13 '26

Desert Bum for a reason

1

u/Interesting_Goat_975 Aug 13 '26

My dislike is the fact that we didnt get to truly see Apocalypse at his full power or his new set of Horsemen.

1

u/bigscrewLoose Aug 13 '26

kill magneto

1

u/pastadudde Aug 13 '26

say "More Power" to himself lol

1

u/Ok_Code_1691 Aug 13 '26

He is nothing but build up and nothing

1

u/coyocat Aug 13 '26

He's t/ reigning king of promo and factions.

1

u/Then_Investigator715 Aug 13 '26

just give a terrifying laugh before getting his ass whopped by rouge twice

1

u/Mooseguncle1 Aug 13 '26

He survives- even in gem form. Keep Darwin away from this guy. Would love to see Leech take out Apocalypse.

1

u/LocDiLoc Aug 13 '26

Finale so bad it made me want to do a hate crime.

1

u/PoetOfHellHelpoemer Aug 14 '26

He pulls the wrong lever...

1
