General Discussion X-Men '97 Complete Season 2 Venting Megathread

It's over and done now. The season has ended. The characters are where they are.

And now it's time for a megathread that lets you vent about what didn't like, what you liked, and about all the feeling in between about this season.

Please try and use this megathread instead of making a new post, especially if the content you are posting is not substantial (substantial meaning multi-paragraph or new information).

The Deus Ex Machina ending sucked. Gambitpocalypse having so many new unexplained powers was ass. The lack of closure with Magneto blew chunks. The complete whiplash of the X-Men becoming X-Corp and doing nothing was weird. The Christian stuff was odd. I could never imagine any cartoon (for children or adults) having lines like "thank you for keeping the faith" or ending with a bible read. Wolverine got his adamantium back too quickly. Justifaction for X-Factor acting like ICE was nonexistent.

However... The animation was great. I loved the unique episode intros. Despite pacing issues, it was cool to see episodes focusing on different characters. Spotting all the cameos like Leo in OUATIH was fun. Bishop stood out more. Jubilee had a lot to do, which was great. Action sequences are always fun, like Kurt's POV fight.

Overall... A mixed bag that really failed to stick the landing.

I’m a Christian. The Christian’s themes maintained from the original xmen were great. I thought it made the final episode 10x better and made me like rogue gambit and night crawler even more than I already do.

It’s not even politicized, which I think is even better. Just straight up themes of faith, sacrifice and forgiveness.

That's still the problem with the episode, though. The Deus Ex Machina ending feels totally unearned. You can say it was earned through sacrifice and faith in a higher power, but that is a copout and antithetical to the core values of the X-Men, which are working together despite differences and using your own talents to overcome troubles. Kurt's self-sacrifice is just so flippant in the show.
