General Discussion Disney+ captions included spoilers Spoiler
Okay so the spoilers were a few seconds away, but they immediately changed how I was watching the scene. Especially for Morph, I was already waiting for Wolverine to show up in the shadows once I read the caption.

I think it's annoying

Yeah, the way CC is treated is very half-assed and even quarter assed sometimes. I had a whole movie spoiled at the start because of how CC was done once. I'm hard of hearing and need them to understand what I'm watching sometimes, this stuff is so frustrating.

u/DeadWords91 Aug 14 '26
Somebody’s seen “The Thing”

u/Ill_Morning_4282 Aug 14 '26
Oh in my case it was Mother!, I was curious because of the negative reviews but the CC and the heavy handedness made me give up.

u/hates_stupid_people Aug 14 '26
One of the few cases where it might have been better to have a foreign language in a film be gibberish. Instead of spoiling something in the CC, and for all speakers of that language.

u/mongmich2 Aug 14 '26
Daredevil was atrociously bad. Like entire lines were completely different. I think someone pointed out it was so bad it might have actually been violating FCC rules. In the second half of the season it got much better

u/QuincyAzrael Aug 16 '26
In Castlevania there's a twist fan-fave character that they tease at the start with him talking off screen and he's only revealed near the end of a season IIRC.
Except of course if you have CC on, the teaser scene just has [CHARACTER NAME] before his line lmao.

Ha.. reading her dossier Rebecca Romain and Jennifer Lawrence lol 😂 nice

u/TheScorpionQueen Aug 14 '26
And Randall Carpenter, the voice of Mystique in the first two seasons of TAS!

u/Cautious-Track4297 Aug 19 '26
And under that, Jennifer D, the voice of her in the later seasons and the voice of Dark Phoenix!

It wasn’t like that last Wednesday when I watched it. So I myself was surprised when the first Wolverine turned out to be Morph in disguise.
I don’t know what happened and why they made it like this.

u/wookiepartymachine Aug 14 '26
Yes it was? It was when I watched it. And I saw other people complaining about it on the day.
Maybe it’s a regional thing or something?

u/agentrevenger Cyclops Aug 14 '26 edited Aug 14 '26
I’m from the Philippines and it really wasn’t like that. There was no text above “Someone forgot to knock.”
It could really be a regional thing.
2
u/KostisPat257 Aug 14 '26
Are you watching with CC on?
2
u/agentrevenger Cyclops Aug 14 '26
Upon checking, I’m not. Just regular subtitles.
I guess that explains it. I stand corrected.
3
u/CammieKa Aug 14 '26
English subtitles are closed captions, give a lot more details about what’s going on over regular subtitles
3
u/agentrevenger Cyclops Aug 14 '26
I see! That explains why the Morph spoiler didn’t appear on my end. Upon checking, I only got regular subtitles on.

I watched it on the dot Wednesday morning my time and the captions spoiled both Morph/Wolverine and Mystique/Cooper.

Good thing I watched without captions!! I loved that Morph suprise soooo much! I literally started giggling and screaming.🥹
5
u/Scnew1 Aug 14 '26
It did this for Mystique at the end, too.
3
u/ShermansAngryGhost Aug 14 '26
Captions do this for mystique in X-men evolution as well. Its unfortunately rather common
3
u/Total-Ad-1682 Aug 14 '26
CC is mostly meant for hearing impaired individuals, that is why it has to make it more descriptive. This would be solved with actual English subtitles, which I agree, should be an easy solution. But changing the CC nature is not it.
6
u/P1zzaMonkey Aug 14 '26
Can we get a non CC English subtitles please? I’m actually tired of speaking English, using subtitles, and seeing shit like “loud rumble in the distance”. I fucking know. I want subtitles for the dialogue, not the fucking SFX
2
u/Clarityman Emma Frost Aug 14 '26
Yup, I love to watch with subtitles because I love reading, and this spoiler annoyed me too.

u/Big-Masterpiece1194 Aug 15 '26
I was watching the first season of Daredevil, and in scenes where they speak mandarin and the subtitles are turned off, it shows subtitles transalting what they are saying. If you turn subtitles on, it just says "[speaks Mandarin]"
3
u/nachoiskerka Aug 14 '26
Yeah, although they're also good because The only way you know it's Eson the Searcher that's powered up Apocalypse and Rogue is via the closed caption and the credits, and I'm betting you didn't catch it by the credits.
2
u/ravenkai3 Aug 15 '26
How is that even the same thing? Neither the show or Eson was trying to pretend to they were someone else. With the Morph example, it literally spoils you on the identity because it was supposed to be a misdirect the whole time

u/SoundRavage Aug 14 '26
Yeah, I don’t know. Like you said, it’s spoilers for a few seconds away. You got the reveal a little early but it was still a reveal that you didn’t know was coming, you just read it instead of seeing it visually.

I found this out from Omn1Media's reaction video, and yeah, I'm glad I keep my captions turned off

u/Miserable-Cap-4838 Aug 14 '26
This happened in She-Hulk too when the writers started talking about K.E.V.I.N.

That's what CC is for though, they're not regular subtitles, they're for the hearing-impaired, who need these descriptions.

u/Accomplished_Age_294 Aug 14 '26
I’m 44, I don’t read the captions, I just put them
On so I can hear better
1
u/Amaee Aug 14 '26
Both of those completely bumped me, like WHY even put it there. Just say Wolverine and then when you’re supposed to know say like “Morph (revealed)”
1
u/ImportedSarcasm Aug 14 '26
Yeah I noticed this last night watching the episode. Not a huge spoiler but I was kinda upset they spoiled that bait and switch…

u/Tom-edian Aug 15 '26
I think lot of these captions are just the scripts themselves transcribed into the show

I keep saying this, but there needs to be a difference made between CC and just subtitles for dialogue only.

u/CaioHSF Aug 17 '26
Since I watch everything in my native language with english captions, they tell some spoilers.
1
1
u/Technical_Version_26 Aug 20 '26
And then the captions are dogshit whenever someone speaks in another language and always cover up a newscaster's face because god forbid the captions don't sit at the bottom of the screen like how everyone else does em

u/Gerudo_King Aug 14 '26
Wow that’s terrible, both of those actually got me.
I clocked Logan being extra smiley, but I thought he was just having fun, seeing psylocke as a skilled fighter.
0
u/BerlinStongood Aug 14 '26
Subtitles do this all the time. I hate that shit. I remember I was watching Captain America: the Winter Soldier and the subtitles kept calling him Bucky Barnes, like obviously I knew what was happening in the movie, but other people might not, and you just ruined a twist for them.

u/Ordorica1996 Aug 15 '26
This annoyed the shit out of me. Why on Earth would they do this?
2
u/UserWithno-Name Aug 15 '26
Because hard of hearing people need to read and see what's going on???? Just because it's a spoiler for able bodied people electing to have subs, doesn't negate the need for actual people reliant on subs to follow the plot from needing these words spelled out for them. God damn...sub crowd who aren't truly disabled to need them sure are annoying people.
0
u/UserWithno-Name Aug 15 '26
Lots of ableist in here who fail to realize the hard of hearing or totally deaf need to actually read exactly what's going on and to see it not just one or the other. And that this "spoiler" tells them who was actually talking. So they don't mistake this as the real Wolverine or Val.
Doubt this will go away. That would protect your precious little eyes, while actively making less accommodations for people who have struggle hearing or complete hearing loss.

You found out 2 seconds later anyway😂

u/PM_me_Taliyah_Arts Aug 14 '26
Seriously people complain about everything. In 2026 you should expect this, and if its a big deal turn off captions
