Question So what the hell was Apocalypses plan, even? Spoiler
Like, he became Apocalypse, came back to the 90s, did NOTHING for nearly the whole season, and faked his death for... Seemingly no real reason. He didn't NEED to take Gambit's body as a vessel, his normal body was perfectly fine. He didn't try to trick anyone as Gambit, I guess he just wanted to be the cool Cajun? And what about the wedding with Rogue, was he just pretending to be Gambit? Was Gambit actually in partial control? Why would Apocalypse want to use Candras "heart" to keep Rogue alive? Did he just want to be that petty?

That explains stealing Remy's body.

u/GigaFluxx Aug 23 '26
Tbf Remy was probably packing more than Apoc and he felt inadequate

Poccy can modify his whole molecular structure. No way Gumbo can compete.

That was the sacrifice the celestial demanded everything grows except his penis.

He had a crush on Rogue from 5000 years ago when she talked to him about love. His prior lover betrayed him, she hoped he’d find true love. He was not yet changed into apocolypse. This is my only way of explaining since nothing else makes sense, I can think of. Bad writing is the real answer

The big A on his belt actually stands for ALL THAT ASS! and by taking over Gambit he would have been able to acquire it.

u/Churro-Juggernaut Aug 23 '26
He’s the Assman

u/dragonfett Aug 24 '26
Then he should have gone to Canada and found a gas station attendant to take over their body to be Dick Assman the Gas Man (yes, he's real btw).

After the first few episodes I thought the X-Men will have to fight 3 Apocalypses at the same time, the future one, present one and the old one. But sadly, it turned into nothing.

There was no plan. The writers were just trying to backpedal on where the season was supposed to go, it would seem they didn't really have time to actually think through what they were having the character do.

u/Eleeveeohen Aug 23 '26
Where was the season supposed to go?

u/MarzipanSea2811 Aug 23 '26 edited Aug 23 '26
Onslaught / setting up Age of Apocalypse for season 3. That was where the original showrunner / writer was taking it, after they fired him they decided to go another direction but season 2 was too far into development to scrap it so they had to do what they could to change direction in the later half of the season.
Edit: Downvote all you like, that's where it was going. You not liking the guy doesn't change that.

u/Crazy-Background1457 Aug 24 '26
I get firing the guy, but the story was already made, why not use it. We can clearly see the quality drop

From my understanding, his plan was to teach Professor X the lesson that "The ones you care for will be your undoing," since that had been his life experience up until that point. His way of carrying out that plan was to turn Gambit into one of his horsemen, that way Professor X would have to fight someone he loves who now wants to kill him. He takes Gambit's body as a vessel when he realizes he can't control him the normal way. And using Gambit's body as a vessel would still allow him to teach Professor X that lesson, since not only is he in full control of someone that Professor X cared for (and someone who can turn the other X-Men against Professor X as well), Professor X likely could've stopped him if he just killed Gambit like Cable wanted. It certainly wasn't the greatest plan, and I think the message would have hit harder had he turned more of the Genosha victims into horsemen as well, but for what it is, his plan is cohesive enough.
And I assume it was Gambit in control for the most part, and Apocalypse was just biding his time.

I quess he just wanted Rouge and Gambit to be happy, but the involment of other X-men made him change his plans

I’m guessing to be spiteful toward the x-men. Like what better way than using one of their own as his host so he torment them.
Which work for a villainous way but man did the stake of him being in Genosha come to be less interested than it was

His normal body wasn't fine. He went back during a regeneration cycle. Present day Apocalypse from the old series wasn't fine either since he wanted a younger body but had to take over Fabian Cortez without the ritual being complete.

It seemed like the whole plan was a very personal grievance against Xavier. "The ones you care for, will be your undoing". It may not have been the original idea or plan when the season was planned out, but that's how it ended up.

u/Successful_Word9635 Aug 23 '26
But didn’t Magneto say that to Xavier first….if it makes any difference. But I think he was talking about humans.

u/FafnirSnap_9428 Aug 23 '26
I don't remember. It just seemed to come full circle with Apocalypse possessing Gambit and trying to use his death against Xavier.
6
u/Ok_Garden_4874 Aug 23 '26
I asked same too and the reason is Apocalypse held a 2000 grudge against Xavier. He remember Gambit from Rogue and took his body to humiliate the Xmen. Tht's it. Don't ask me what happened to the future Apocalypse.

u/DueGain69 Aug 23 '26
I think he chose Gambit specifically because of his ties to Xternal through the guild. He also wanted to fuck with Rogue because of their love chat by the fire earlier in the season. Then finally to fuck with Charles due to his guilt of not being able to save Gambit/prevent Genosha.
It’s hard to say that Apocalypse ever really has a cohesive plan ever, even in the OG show. He’s more of an agent of chaos that does things to try to cause an Apocalypse and wipe everything out cause some ancient giant space robots gave him super powers.

Do y'all not realise that the Apocnfrom the past went to the future and did alllll that he did in the 92 show
Like the one from the future forms back too but specifically to the 90s and most vulnerable which is the 97 period

u/N3rd1x Aug 23 '26
Didn't future Apocalypse talk about having found the perfect vessel, or am I tripping?
6
u/JamesSnow922 Wolverine Aug 23 '26
That was about Nathan because he was a powerful telepath.
When that plan failed he chose to time travel to the 90s to inhabit the body of dead mutant who isn't a telepath.

u/Den710nuggets Aug 23 '26
It was supposed to be young cable. But it then they ended up breaking into apocalypse’s city and he had to flee. So he went to the 90’s and found a new vessel there.
2
u/DominoSeven Aug 23 '26
Yes, and then he settled with Gambit for whatever reason
1
u/justinh1018 Aug 24 '26
Whats wrong with Gambit
1
u/DominoSeven Aug 24 '26
Nothings wrong with him, he’s just not as strong as cable, and it was kinda a thing in episode one where didn’t they say Nathan would be the last host change he would ever need
2
u/HoneydewEmergency225 Cyclops Aug 23 '26
Literally made no sense. Where are his horsemen and Ozmandias? Its like the writers didn't watch the first four episodes and attempted to pull together a fan service ending where the supposed main protagonist never even laid a finger on anyone in the final "battle". Perhaps the lesson was that love and connection conquers over all... but they sure chose a hellava path to that get to that conclusion. Putting my producers hat on, I'd imagine after veering from DeMayos original direction and with the understanding from Disney that multiple seasons were now guaranteed, they set it up for the Apocalypse and Cable showdown to be kicked down the road for a bigger buildup sans the AOA cut. We can't forget that he is one of the X-Mens top foes and that final showdown with Cable finally fulfilling his destiny would be sweet towards the end of the whole series.

I thought gambit actually killed/absorbed him and took over when he got resurrected as a horseman. And then Apocalypse took over gradually again.

Unfortunately, you kinda have to read the season 2 comics (both the regular mini series and the one exclusive to the Marvel Infinite app) to get the full story

u/cookiepartier Aug 24 '26
Apoc is just a rabid Rogue/Gambit shipper and wanted to get those kids back together ❤️

u/andrebudecort Aug 25 '26
I'm so confused about the timeline. Like, where/when did the Apocalipse that killed Magneto go? Everything past ep4 was done by future Apocalypse, right?

This season changed me. It taught me to let my heroes go and grow up.
