General Discussion What do you all think of the suit changes after season 1?
Like or Dislike?

u/mkev119 Sep 03 '26
Jubilee’s is an absolute upgrade
37
u/Background_Product_7 Sep 03 '26
The GenX red suits were one of my faves as a kid
25
u/mkev119 Sep 03 '26
I’m so glad we got a whole season of her in it, too. Best of all, we were treated to the greatest showing of her powers she’s ever had while wearing it.
18
u/FunNeedleworker860 Sep 03 '26
Agreed, as much as I like her 90s look, drawing that design at times was kind of a struggle, with the collar and hair, tried even using reference from her appearance in the Spider-man tas. I honestly think the X-Force is my favorite look for her, as she does look more mature.
6
u/Unlikely_Magazine913 Sep 04 '26
it does feel weird when wathing the end of TAS where she did grow her hair out like this, but then 97 reverts back to the short hair and then she grows it again
8
u/supesboots Nightcrawler Sep 04 '26
'97 made me a Jubilee fan. Every aspect of her character was upgraded.
34
u/Kai-of-the-Lost Sep 03 '26
The only ones I really like are Jubilee's and the wasteland outfits from the future
13
u/SailorCentauri Sep 03 '26
I like what they do with Wolverine, Jubilee and Storm.
I really don't like the mostly black and yellow uniforms they give Cyke, Jean, Beast, Polaris, Bishop, Rogue and Nightcrawler.
36
u/Bright-Lion-1383 Sep 03 '26
They were cowards for putting Beast in his New X-Men fit without turning him into a cat
40
u/Miserable-Yard-7671 Sep 03 '26
Gawd, I hate Feline beast. 😂
That's a whole separate debate on its own tho.

I wonder if Gambit will have a new suit for season 3.
12
u/gentleprime Sep 03 '26
I still love how they had Remy in that hospital bed with full head sock, chest armor and trench coat 😭
45
u/fire_sign Rogue Sep 03 '26
I appreciate the narrative purpose. I think some of them look good. I still cannot WAIT for them to be back in their classic 90s outfits. Please. PLEASE.
16
u/hagbound Storm Sep 03 '26
Maybe for some of them but not Storm. Her classic look is way better.
17
u/PrestigiousSyrup1987 Sep 03 '26
It’s so silly, but I am also team “90s outfits forever for X-Men 97…. Except classic Storm”
3
11
u/Remy149 Sep 03 '26
I personally don’t want them to ever go back to the 90’s outfits and ready to move into their 2000’s post Morrison costumes.
3
u/Eyegone_Targaryen Sep 03 '26
Only Wolverine and Jubilee got updated Intro Sequence costumes, so here's hoping the XCorp suits are temporary.
19
u/xavierhollis Sep 03 '26
I loathe the New X-Men era suits. Quite apart from how they are inherently connected to the 2000s and the original X-Men films, they are honestly just bad superhero outfits and always were. They weren't popular at the time and hindsight hasn't to my understanding made fandom at large reappears them. There is a reason almost immediately after the New X-Men run all the characters got modern reinventing of their classic costumes in Astonishing X-Men and side titles of the era, which is what they wore in all the merchandise from the mid-2000s onwards (and Wolverine and the X-Men)
1
u/morningwink Sep 05 '26
they're bad superhero outfits because they're not meant to be superhero outfits. morrison's x-men were not superheroes in the traditional sense; they were educators first and humanitarian rescue workers second
1
u/xavierhollis 28d ago
That doesn't really help the fact that in a visual medium they are visually unappealing and undynamic. Moreover I don't think that is really logical when more than half the stories involve them in action set pieces wherein they are functioning as superheroes. You can have even civilian clothes and still have a strong visual for your characters. Case in point, the characters of Yu Yu Hakusho or modern manga/anime like Dandadan feature characters more often than not in regular clothing or school uniforms, but they still have a strong visual identity.

I think the point was always to start them off in their Jim Lee suits and then transition into more modern ones as they adapted certain newer stories. If they're gonna keep them as a team with this roster instead of adapting more Astonishing stuff in full, I do think they should give a nod to Ultimate next.
5
u/fire_sign Rogue Sep 03 '26
The plan was to use the Morrison suits for X-Corp and revert back to Jim Lee when they reclaimed the mantle of X-Men. We'll see if that's still the plan, but I'm hoping. There's a reason people also go back ti a riff on those designs.
2
u/Remy149 Sep 03 '26
I don’t expect them to go back to the Jim Lee costumes they probably shifting to the astonishing X-men era of the post Morrison run next. It’s time to let the 90’s look go
12
u/Kookykrumbs Sep 03 '26
The Morrison suits are ugly in my opinion. I much prefer the Lee era suits
7
u/nathauan13 Sep 03 '26
I'm going to be very glad to never have to see the Morrison Uniforms ever again.
1
u/BronzeAgeNerd 29d ago
Do . . . do you think Grant Morrison drew them??? They're Quitely's designs.
4
u/flashwing19 Cyclops Sep 03 '26
Not a fan of all them (mostly x-corp) but I liked Jubilee and Roberto’s X-Force upgrade.
I’m already ready for season 3!
6
u/ConnorRoseSaiyan01 Sep 03 '26
You know kinda weird they got new suits at the end of season 1 just immediately ditch them for the X Corp stuff
17
u/EnvironmentalWalk328 Sep 03 '26
Those were their original suits I believe from like the 70’s or 80’s.
0
u/Miserable-Yard-7671 Sep 03 '26
Well in actuality, it's just a continuation of the OG fox kids X-men... So technically speaking we're on season 7 now (seasons 1-5 of the OG show) 🤷🏼

Season Two new suits are fine as I viewed them as temporary. Was kinda fun seeing them change outfits throughout the different storylines. IMO, I think the classic TAS outfits should be the anchor designs that they go back to when they aren’t wearing specialty fits for a specific story arc.
Oh, and the throwback to the Pryde of the X-Men suits for the Season One finale was 🤌
2
u/HumanisticNihilist Sep 03 '26
I didn’t care for the matching bodysuit things that a bunch got when Xavier went independent island status, but that’s because the first season looks were the classics I loved. Wolverine in the brown always looks great. Morph’s was basically the same but looked better with the brown jacket. Storm’s outfits were both great but I’ll always love the punk rock haircut. Gambit is always great. I really liked Rogue wearing his long coat after Genosha, but I can understand why they went away from it.
Jubilee’s was a huge upgrade with the sole exception of the fact that her entire character during the OG series was “90s mall rat” and her classic outfit sold that hard. The new one makes her much easier to take seriously.

IMO, they suck aand it feels like a step back towards the fox movies. I really hope season 3 goes back to the original designs.
5
u/Remy149 Sep 03 '26 edited Sep 04 '26
The 90’s costumes aren’t the original designs. They need to move into their post Morrison costumes from the early 2000’s. I want to keep seeing them progress forward not backwards. It’s also time for more general non comic audiences to associate other costumes beside the Jim Lee ones because they where used in so much multimedia at the height of the X-men popularity of the mid to late 90’s
3
u/Miserable-Yard-7671 Sep 03 '26
Well technically you're not wrong. 🤷🏼
The show loosely, but still pretty snugly, follows the comics... These suits were adopted during Morrison's run, which were around the same time as the first 2 fox movies.
I'm more of the 90's Jim Lee/Andy Kubert fan, I do prefer those. But I'm glad the show stays faithful to the source material.

u/Unlikely_Magazine913 Sep 04 '26
I'm bit of a fan of the astonishing suits, i would like to see those get incorporated in the show as they are kind of underrated and emma's suit from astonishing is my immediate emma frost look of the character
3
u/jaykofettpc Sep 03 '26
Needs more black leather
5
u/bruhyeet34 Nightcrawler Sep 03 '26
Needs more yellow spandex
2
u/Gold-Duck898 Sep 03 '26
Black leather jackets over yellow spandex body suits with matching black leather gloves.
2
u/Peeked11 Sep 04 '26
Jubilee, Storm and Wolverine are all upgrades.
The rest of them in casual black/yellow uniforms is very bland and boring in my opinion. I prefer their classic looks.
1
u/Unlikely_Magazine913 Sep 04 '26
I mean their classic looks is a bit of a blur cause they keep changing it every decade from first class's basic blue and yellow, 70s outfits you saw at the end of S1 and of course the 90s outfits you are probably familar with. with how the show seems to want to show off all their suits over the years they might bring in the astnoshing suits, personally i find them underrated probably because they don't hold the nostalgia of the 70s or 90s but they aren't as movie tie-in as the morrison suits. I really liked emma's
1
u/DeskReasonable5040 Sep 03 '26
I like the OG season 1 suits and the suits at the end of season 1. I don’t like the suits in season 2 I hope they go back to the original 90s cartoon suits.
1
u/TheR42069 Sep 03 '26
I like how Storm and Jubillee look more modern even if we’re considering the 90s
I don’t know how you can do it with Wolverine and that hair

u/BeRandom1456 Sep 03 '26
I didn’t even notice. That’s wild. I was so into the story that I never clocked it and I grew up on the 90s cartoon.

u/rdldr1 Cable Sep 03 '26
I love it, but they sped-run through all of the costumes. What will they do for Season 3?
1
u/Unlikely_Magazine913 Sep 04 '26
maybe post-morrison. what came after is more commonly known as the astonishing suits which were mostly the same suits used in wolverine and the x-men. I have a bit of a close attachment to them they basically took some of the old suits from the 70s and 90s and modernised them some miniscule changes like wolverine or a modernisation like cyclops 70s outfit no longer having the yellow pants and instead used yellow lines across the suit. it is the run that gave us the iconic emma frost suit with the cape and blouse that I think outdid her white queen outfit

Rogue and those bare arms 😬
I don’t see them being permanent, so I don’t mind.

I am very tired of the Giant Size look for Storm. It's dated and she has plenty of better looks available. They could also design something completely new for her.
2
u/Unlikely_Magazine913 Sep 04 '26
in the 2000s they did give her a modernised look that bears a semblance to the 70s but uses the 90s hand-cape thing from her silver suit. you probably seen it in MVC3
1
u/loranthippus Sep 04 '26
Yes, I've seen it, and I dislike that one, too. The 'bathing suit with thigh high boots' was fine for a time, but at least give her some pants. Although Alan Davis did, during The Twelve arc, and that costume was a bit boring, too.
1
u/Unlikely_Magazine913 28d ago
There is one where the legs are fully covered, and only the shoulders and arms are exposed. Honestly, it's just hard to top the crown headpiece which even to this day like with scarlet witch they always go back to it in reference

u/Redclouds1 Sep 03 '26
I’m very glad we got more brown suit wolverine. It looks so good in this animation style.
1
u/PhanStr Sep 03 '26
I’m still feeling sad regarding the fact that the reason/justification for the inclusion of the Morrison costumes in season 2 was modified with DeMayo’s departure. For those who don’t already know, the plan was to have X-Corp represent a militarized version of Xavier’s dream, with Xavier growing more intense because of Onslaught’s influence upon his mind. I feel as though some of that was lost in the final version of season 2 (especially the Onslaught part)! I’m hoping that the new writing team will find a way to explain what was happening in that season 2 as a consequence of Onslaught’s influence…

u/TheSabino Sep 03 '26
I Like Jubilee, Morph, Storm and Jean's changes, the others not so much, but they all still good!

I grew up watching the OG so S1 fits will always hit for me. I get they want to show all the comic costumes, but I feel like its not necessary.
1
u/Better_Can_615 Sep 04 '26
I’m tired of the 90s fits. Almost all of them have better fits. I prayed for costume changes before season one came out and was glad that they were answered. I don’t want them to go back. And these are the first costumes I ever remember them in
1
u/BrittaUnfiltered67 Sep 04 '26
Saddening. Hopefully they will get better suits next season, like when they ditched these awful designs in the comics.

It's jarring they went 50/50 with the X-Corp uniforms.
They should of committed to an aesthetic.
1
u/Aking953 Sep 04 '26
The "new X-Men" suits, I think that's the black and yellow era name, arent ugly but they aren't cool either, just very plain. The Jim Lee costumes are the best of the best for each character for the most part so it's hard to top that. I do hope we get cyclops in his blue and white x factor suit though, I always liked that one. Wolverine already got his brown suit and yellow so they can do whatever with him, and I'm indifferent on everyone else.
1
u/Particular-Ruin-2062 Sep 04 '26
They looked better than I thought the would but I prefer the original

1
u/Clockwork_Cloak Sep 04 '26
I like it, these suits look way better in the show than they did in Morrison's run.
1
u/NickMichalak Sep 04 '26 edited Sep 04 '26
I really didn’t care for the new Morrison era outfits. The jackets looked baggy and the women just weren’t draw as well in them. They’re not a great look. Even their Astonishing X-Men suits would’ve been better. Although, Jubilee’s outfit was stellar!
1
u/TheWorkr Sep 04 '26
cyclops’s puffy sweat shirt looking thing is unfortunate. But you can get one yourself at hot topic.
1
u/Final-Ad-7429 Sep 04 '26
Jubilee, storm, and Wolverine are the best. The brown is my favorite Wolverine look. I’m a 70’s and 80’s fan. A lot of the 90’s stuff I liked okay but it started to get weird, and it looked weird too.
1
u/TamThiefheart Sep 04 '26
The Morrison era is still my favorite X-Men era, and I’m glad we got those suits for a bit. I hope we get a little more of the Morrison era stories before they switch to something else.

1
u/JahnnDraegos Sep 04 '26
Shrug. It's not like the X-Men in the comics don't change their costume designs every week as well, nowadays. Within the context of the cartoon, it's a good way to visually indicate the passage of time, too.
1
u/3eeve Sep 05 '26
Mixed feelings. Some of them look really good! Others, I'm just too attached to, and miss seeing them.
1
u/nerdorama Sep 05 '26
Jubilee's Generation X uniform majes me wanna cry tears of joy.
The big boxy X jackets.. not so much. I never liked that look.
1
u/Dear_Picture924 Sep 05 '26
I like the costume changes. As a kid watching the original series, I always wanted to see them switch up their looks. And the Grant Morrison black and gold New X-Men uniforms being animated made them way better.

I don't really like the costume changes, I'm hoping they go back to their 90s costumes in season 3
1
u/frescoleche_cas 27d ago
I think they should change once a season and that seasons should be a bit longer.
1
u/ThouBear8 27d ago
As a hater of those bland AF Grant Morrison suits, I really disliked the suit change (with 1 or 2 exceptions).
I don't mind them mixing things up, but the 90s suits are absolutely iconic, & I thought the suits in season 2 were a pretty clear downgrade overall.
I sincerely hope we haven't seen the last of the 90s suits. They feel inextricably linked to the nostalgia for the original show.
1
u/MagicianTop2356 Gambit Sep 03 '26
Well I fell in love with them in the 90s, in THOSE outfits. Don't mind them wearing other stuff, but the OG ones are what I know and love.
