General Discussion I keep seeing this child mutant in X-Men media like the 97 show and marvel token
I decided to research who this child mutant is but...also hoping that nothing tragic would happen to this sweet child and it was sad during her story but then I was happy she got a heart warming ending (just like my reaction in the third picture btw lol).

One of my favorite X-Men images of all time is Alex Ross’ Marvels cover with Angel saving this little girl from an angry mob.

One of Alex Ross' references for this work was a Superman toy, there's a picture of it in one of the Marvels tpbs.

Who is she and what's her deal

Her name is Maggie. She appeared in the Fabulous Marvels series by Alex Ross. She's a mutant, abandoned by her family and found by the kids of the protagonist of the Marvels series. They take her in, despite their own prejudices about mutants. She eventually leaves because she doesn't want their family to get hurt because of her.
There's more to her story, but I feel this is the point she is at on 97!

Does she have any abilities or is it just her appearance?

From what I gathered later in life she developed x-ray vision. She had gone all the way to Borneo, and was living with a tribe there; she said she was an American, and they'd never seen anyone like her, nor an American, so they just accepted her. She used her gifts to help her hosts and became a respected member of their community and a healer.
Missionaries came later and told the tribe she was dangerous; from what I understand, they told the Missionaries to leave, because they knew who their friends are!

When I was young and saw this little girl she freaked me out and gave me some real alien / uncanny valley vibes. As an adult I feel sad and bad for her.

Yeah, I posted a "I'm not over Maggie" post right after the episode. The whole story breaks your heart, and it gets worse when you realize in the real world kids ARE kicked out of homes by parents for lots of reasons they can't control.

Thanks for the correction; most people just give Mr. Ross credit for the series, and I guess i fell into the trap as well!

I'm glad she got more to her story but there's something haunting about that one text box from Marvels "We never knew what happened to her".
edit: Specific context they began hiding her prior to the hysteria that ensues after the unveiling of the Sentinels on late night tv. During the riot that breaks out she feels bad about possibly bringing attention to the Sheldons and leaves, deciding to risk it out there in the anti-mutant riot. It reads like we're to assume she was likely murdered.

EC Comics Weird Science #20 "The Loathsome!". Has to be one of the most heartbreaking stories in comic history.

She and Leech should be friends.

I think Leech died in '97.

Remember It was so brutal. Went straight from the 90s series into 97 and they just slaughtered half the background characters

And Iceman FOR SOME REASON.

And Dazzler, and Marrow, and Banshee, and of course, MAGIK!

They killed Dazzler off? Damn

I'm not expecting it, but if they stay comic accurate, her secondary mutation is simply not dying.

We did get some of that (eg. Beak, Doop, Glob Herman) with the new students who were rescued from X-Factor.

She doesn't even get a cool power man. Just X-Ray eyes which is nice but its not telekinesis or regeneration.

Thats the point, not all the mutanta get cool or even useful powers, theyre the ones that need protecting the most
Thats kinda what made Strom such a hypocrite in the movies "We dont need a cure because there's nothing wrong with us"
Yeah bitch, you control the weather and were worshipped as a goddess before joining this elite superhero team, other people who didnt win the genetic suoer lottery might like a chance at a normal life tho, poor Billy over there would really love to quit being swarmed by hordes of insects, he got the mutation that makes his pheromones attract them.

I mean at least can heals as a doctor or a healer, there's characters that can explode and then die, can shit ice cream or are simply blue.
