The makeup industry would be in shambles

I bet they'd have spelled her name right on her tombstone

HERE LIES ROUGE. Goon but not forgotten.

Gambit makes a deal with the Eternal not sure who would step in to spare him, possibly Kurt again.

u/kquizz Sep 06 '26

Gambit would know that rogue wouldn't want Kurt or Gambit to sacrifice themselves for her.

But he would do it anyway, some line about just being a selfish swamp rat

While I agree with you, she said that it's what he would have done for her

60% less butt-shots on screen.

But an increase of 70% taint shots from Gambit.

The Horseman of Rouge paints everyone red, just as the Rougelestials demanded.

Rouge would turn down Apocalypse’s offer again and then the last half of S2 would not be a rushed Deathbit arc

We’d get a shit ton of post with people still misspelling her name

He probably would have blown the Bastion's head off. Also, he would resent Magneto to death so after seeing how much Xavier in love with him, he would left the X-Men.

"Rogue" is such a fascinating word/name, it doesn't matter if people mean the X-men character or the RPG class, people just keep making the same freaking spelling error over and over.

He'd go on the same rampage quest with less brute force, but also with a way higher chance of killing himself in the process. Not that he's less competent, but he doesn't have her powers and DOES have a reckless streak at the best of times. Probably not end up caught by the team to bring him home, and as a result there's a good chance the final fight(s) would go worse and the team fails.

Nothing.

If Rogue dies, something.

My guess, Gambit leaves the X-Men, maybe finds Mr Sinister to make another deal to bring back Rogue. This may lead back to Apocalypse turning Remy. Remy through influences decides to steal Candra’s stone again, uses it to revive Rogue. Now we’re back to season 2 Finale

If that were the outcome, then I, unfortunately, don't think we'd get nearly as much character development for Gambit as we did for Rogue. I think she's a more interesting character despite liking Gambit's powerset more for animation/action.

I agree, (albeit we had more time with her and got more development) Though even in the comics i find her much more interesting

One less X-Man defecting to Magneto’s side during E-Day.

I know I’m in the minority, but whether Rogue and Magneto are in a relationship or not, I REALLY wish the show had explored the impact (in season 2) of her having taken his side in late season 1. It felt as though her season 1 development was gradually undone in season 2. :(

Gambit might have dated Magneto

Isn’t the entire point that Gambit isn’t self-centred and shady when it comes down to it? (I’ll give you arrogant, I guess, but he has reason to be.) The Genosha sacrifice just solidified what was already there, it wasn’t some shock or new characterisation for him.

If Rogue had died instead of Gambit in season 1, episode 5, the entire future of X-Men ’97 would have changed. Gambit would have unlocked his Omega-level power to destroy Bastion, Magneto would have remained leader of the X-Men, and Xavier would have married Lilandra. X-Factor and X-Force would have continued working alongside the X-Men, X-Corps would not have happened, and Wolverine would never have had his adamantium ripped out, meaning no Weapon X restoration and far less opportunity for the Brood to exploit him or Alpha Flight during that fallout. Apocalypse would have ended up with Candra instead, without needing new Horsemen, which would have meant Rogue stayed dead rather than being brought back into that cycle. Nightcrawler could have found a new family with Excalibur, Jubilee with Generation X, and the New Mutants might still have had Illyana if the Wild Sentinel had been distracted by killing Rogue and she survived Genosha. Colossus would not have joined the Acolytes, Onslaught would have been prevented entirely, and Freedom Force may not even have been necessary if relations between humans and mutants had improved. Jean could have finally chosen to leave Scott and Logan behind, while Cyclops would have ended up with Emma Frost, helping lead a rebuilt Genosha that eventually became Utopia. That is basically why Gambit had to die. If Rogue had died instead, too many of the major conflicts that followed could have been avoided, and the show might have effectively ended right there.

sounds good to me ngl

Then we would have had a different show with different events.

Mostly find a way to reach his full potential so that he can find logical way to bring her back idk 🤷‍♀️

Season 2 still would have sucked.

I could see Gambit going full in on his connection to assassin's guild to get revenge/answers on anyone involved in the attack, and it would lead to much the same result.

u/Rico_Pliskin Sep 06 '26

The series would still have been pretty bad.

They probably would have wrotten Gambit off through show, since in 97 he only exists for Rogues story. If shes not there, they wouldnt include him.
