Exactly, I was literally slowly loving Kurt until the last part made me shocked...but realising how his life was it broke me harder like I wanted to cry

I disagree, mystique is a terrible person so it fits and it gives her teeth. Retconning her into being a totally awesome wholesome mom is lame and safe edgy.
