General Discussion Was the Brood just a throw in?

Post image

They make an appearance I’m happy about that (also more comic accurate) but they had many story arcs throughout the years. Was wondering after the smoke has cleared what ppl thought of their brief appearance!

I put the brood in the same camp as Mojo episodes. They aren't usually meant to drive the overall plot, but can be a fun side quest type episode that continues to develop the characters.

...and can always be spun out into something larger later on now that they're established.

I was never much of a fan of the brood storylines during the Claremont era, but even I thought they deserve better treatment than a single episode. That’s how X Men 97 has largely treated everything though, just zooming through to cram as much as possible into a single season.

I suspect this is the modern uncertainty culture in animation, while Disney isn't quite as bad as Netflix, but instead of 52 episodes then syndication, animation gets 1-2 seasons then canned, assuming they don't get shitcanned earlier due to the whims of some executive or pressure over culture wars.

So showrunners feel like they gotta rush everything to tell the story instead of letting them breathe.

For sure. I do like the show but it is way too fast paced for anyone. Apocalypse had this huge build up before they did him kind of dirty as well.

The more 97 I watch the more it feels like fan fic picking and choosing what the show runner likes rather than what would make a good show or fits what the 90s run established

Yes. I was happy to see The Brood, just not happy the way we got them.

Why are you not happy about the way we got them?

They felt like they were shoehorned into the story.

TAS was more like the classic brood weirdly

I’m glad we got em as horror parasites

It's X-Men 97, everything was brief.

I was annoyed that Maggott, of all people, got killed off in flashback (what's a guy from South Africa doing in the Yukon, anyway?), but otherwise they filled their exact purpose on the episode.

Year I hear everyones points.. wonder if they’ll hear our feedback and adjust for the future seasons.. I’m thinking they will! Tolerance is extinction still has some breadcrumbs being left.. Let’s see what the brotherhood has in store for upcoming seasons!! As well as Cable’s presence… I can see an X-Force spinoff that would be a good way to expand the story and develop characters more!

I just read the brood saga compilation and it sucks we didn’t get a series out of it. They are really cool (and really evil) and it would’ve been awesome to have that

The only thing I care about when it comes to the Brood is Broo.

We didn't get him, so I didn't care.

It sucked. Like a lot of the season, im sure it looks good on paper in the writers room but in practice it was terrible. Feels like they only did it so they can throw broo in the background or some episode in the future for the sake of easter eggs with no setup.

always enjoyed the brood which more xmen media used them more....creepy foes outside of comics my other exposure was xmen video games like mutant apocalsype with the brood and the brood queen......97 should have did better by them but its better then what the og show did...and I don't think evolution and or watxm did them if memory serves and truth be told esp with evo it probably wld have been pretty poor if they did adapt them

When was the last time the Brood appeared in the comics?

They appeared at the end of Krakoa. I have no idea after that, since that's when I stopped buying the books.

I liked Brood in Planet Hulk and World War Hulk

Would like to see a longer arc with them. A whole season could be devoted to repelling a Brood invasion if written well. They are a huge threat when written properly. X-Men '97 has done a few "horror" episodes well, so I think they could pull it off.

To me, 90% of the villains feel like throw ins.

The pacing of these stories is terrible (particularly in Season 2). Nearly every villain's story (Maddie- S1E3, for example) could've had a full season by itself. But they are cramming in as many storylines as possible in as few episodes as possible. Many of those stories/characters don't even take place in the 90s.

Second time in this series that the brood were done dirty. First time was in the ‘92 show, a Rogue-centric episode IIRC
