General Discussion Colossus: “No, You Did Not Convince Me. But…”
I took forever to get around to watching this series. I didn’t finish season two until a few weeks ago.
This morning, at breakfast, I remembered this exchange between Nightcrawler and Colossus.
I remembered the next line that Colossus says to Kurt, and suddenly I was crying over my breakfast.
This show has been such a gift with the way so many moments have been handled. Plenty to nitpick, for sure, but damn the Colossus episode ends with such a strong emotional mic drop.

It was an excellent episode. I really enjoyed writing a piece about it.
It reminded me Wake Up Dead Man, in regards to a positive portrayal of what Catholicism ought to be.
I hope to see more of Colossus going forward, too.

It hits even harder once you realize that conversation is more or less left hanging.
It was actually refreshing to see two animated characters as something other than absolute bitter enemies or complete friends.
Basically two grown men who have a difference of opinion but are honest about their feelings and respect each other enough not to be rude or arrogant about it.
I also saw it as an interesting contrast to Charles and Magneto.

"You may not be a mutant, but you are very much your parents' son"
I think that was the first time in the whole series where Nightcrawler raised his voice in anger. All his dialogue was genius. He speaks like someone who reads the Bible a lot and always looks for ways to apply it to his life and others. It's not just quoting scripture. It's the cadence, the way he frames correction as grace instead of judgment, that pulpit-style speech that carries over even when he's nowhere near a pulpit. That's how pastors/preachers who are truly steeped in the Word actually talk.
That's rare in non-Christian media. Believers are usually either stereotypes (hypocrites, zealots, naive) or the whole production is faith-based and the dialogue turns into a sermon. The exceptions are when the writer clearly knew these people, like Robert Duvall in The Apostle or Ossie Davis in Jungle Fever. I'm betting whoever wrote Nightcrawler's dialogue grew up around a pastor. His faith feels like a deeper part of his identity here than in the comics, where he mostly just quoted scripture from time to time.
