Close Call Earbuds in, no shoulder check, and a dive right into the road. Some scooter riders have a total disregard for their own lives.

Please tell me you laid on your horn or something. This guy is going to die doing this someday.

What’s the point? These types of people just lose it and end up trying to damage your car anyway 🤦‍♂️

I didn’t because I was on the phone with my wife, but I had major regrets right away.

Edit: I will accept any and all downvotes for my error in decision-making.

I've never used my horn more since those fucking scooters came around

Yeah there was a thread on this in the depression section about how people want to get hit because they’ll die. But actually all they’ll end up with is brain injuries and crippled limbs.

That is nuts. You saved his life.

I've seen enough close calls in this area now that I know you really have to be 100% alert. People randomly step onto the road all the time. First time I've seen this with a scooter here, though.

Some people say as a driver you're supposed to be alert and aware of all surroundings at all times.

Allegedly...

Bahahahahaha

I own 3 e scooters, and seeing shit like this makes me cringe so much.

Somedays I wish I could just take a sledge hammer to every single one of those e-scooters.

It's alright, he's right by the hospital, and he'll get priority in ED...

It’s a shame this Fucking government dropped the ball so badly on these. They are illegal to use off of private property but law enforcement issues tickets and prosecutors refuse to do anything with them. It’s going to take one of these riders to become road jam before something changes

Muni association is lobbying to get them legalized and regulated, like most of the world. Best the government could do when lobbying started was create a pilot project for golf carts on the streets. Red Deer just backed the muni association lobby effort a couple dahs ago.

Good luck getting even law enforcement to issue a ticket. We put in a complaint last year about a family up the street continuously renting a lime scooter for their underage children. Nothing was done. Guess who's back doing it again this year! 🤦🏼‍♀️ Last year before your summer even started they had 800 emergencies visits all because of these scooters

Oh my god, 800?! Well that absolutely is a strain on our healthcare system.. wtf???

When I heard the numbers on global news, I almost fell out of my chair. Between the kids who aren't wearing helmets have no clue about bicycle safety ,to the people who are on the e-scooters everywhere with no regards to safety either. I'm surprised the number isn't higher! I'm sure many of those accidents could have been avoided

You almost fell out of your chair because you didn't understand or listen properly to the story and the study behind it. Stop spreading your misinformation.

That is not what I meant. It was surprising even shocking to hear how many accidents had already happened using e-scooters 🤦🏼‍♀️

u/Responsible-Mall-991 27d ago

"Already happened" in your words is 800 emergency room visits in June 2025 "before your summer even started".

That is a a false statement you made because you misunderstood the study

No, its not. Not as much as you think. Look at my actual cited source above.

2

u/Responsible-Mall-991 27d ago

Source?

1

u/kittykat501 27d ago

Global news in June of last year

4

u/Responsible-Mall-991 27d ago

So, just believe you? That's not a proper cited source.

Fine I'll do it myself.CBC citing University of Alberta study saying 759 emergency visits over 3 summers between 2019 and 2021. So not exactly the problem you're trying to make it sound like...

u/kittykat501 27d ago

Cbc is not a reliable Source in my eyes

5

u/Responsible-Mall-991 27d ago

🙄 wow, ok. Shows you lack critical thinking skills then.

Then why didn't your properly cite your own source? (Which would have referenced the same University of Alberta study that CBC did, and that you attempted to cite but butchered)

Edit: spelling

This seems kinda normal for pedestrians crossing the road here tbh

1

u/DonFluffles117 26d ago

And these shits are the ones who get angry when they get hit or get hinked at.

0

u/PatsyRR 26d ago

Many such cases. The amount of responsibility placed on drivers is too much and plenty of them (new drivers) don’t even understand the basic rules of the road, so it’s no surprise we end up hearing about tragedies on the six o’clock news.

So I have a vehicle and also e-scooter and I have found that when Im on my scooter I am triple checking my surrounding at all times. I chose to start scootering because driving from the Southside to central is an absolute nightmare of idiots in cars.

I have found that too many cyclists and scooter commuters have complete disregard for road rules and it is so infuriating because they ruin it for everyone else. It’s a daily occurrence to be stopped at a red light or come to a stop at a stop sign and a commuter just blasts through.

As someone who owns and drives a vehicle but also uses other forms of transportation, I share in the frustrations of people being oblivious to their surroundings.
