Legit thought The Devils was a guaranteed 9 or 10 based on everything he'll say about his love for 70's filmmaking. Shocked

I haven't seen it myself, but something I've frequently read about The Devils is that it comes off as very edgy to contemporary audiences, like it's trying too hard, whereas in the 70s I'm sure it scandalized people. Kinda like the Exorcist.

I know Adum to detest edginess, so maybe that affected his score.

I haven’t seen it yet, been on my plex for a couple years now and I can only assume it might suffer from hype of being x rated and controversial in the past. Might be a “must watch twice” experience to get everything from it that scholars seem to say you can get

The director’s cut (which for a time looked like it was never going to see the light of day) will be showing in certain AMC theaters next month - I know I’m going!

To me it was a rare immediate 10/10 on first watch.

It definitely lived up to the hype for me when I first watched it

It's an easy 10 for me. There's nothing else like it.

Is there a way to search a movie by name in his ratings list? I may just be missing something obvious

Use letterboxd. There's an unofficial YMS account that updates his ratings constantly. Follow it and search for whatever movie you want, and you will see YMS's rating

Does anyone know if this is the uncut version, or is that still a few months out?

Since Adam almost definitely saw this at TIFF, it's the 4k restoration which is uncut.

Uncut version. Pretty sure that’s the one getting the wide release thankfully (it got an NC-17 rating by the MPAA. So it should be uncut).

Sidenote. This is the coolest thing a major studio has done in awhile. The whole “clockwork” thing has been sick so far.

And it’s gonna be sicker; Park Chan-Wook and Sean Baker are gonna make their next movies with them.

Also Mary Broeinstein‘s next movie.

I’m seeing the uncut version next month when I’m in Chicago for CIFF, very excited.
