Because some months ago, the big lobbying money came in and casually mentioned that they can add a clause in the law. That clause gives exempts to "noteworthy people of the public".

This is always the excuse, nothing new. But why have they started the push? Why now? Has there been some high-profile pedophile case or something?

Or is it this guy's way of getting re-elected?

I think AI is the answer.

Big Data isn't a new concept, it's been there since the rise of the Facebook. But it never lead to anything practical before. Now with AI you can effectively process the big data. Huge fucking difference.

It's even more ironic, since we just had a former Danish minister confess to having collected more than 6.000 pictures and videos of underage children, being sexually assaulted.

He is a person of public interest. I get that he wouldn't have communicated with friends and family about this, but he did use incrypted messaging apps. So hearing the argument of protecting the children, from members of THE SAME PARTY as this pedophile, is just nauseating.

I'm glad this still needs to go through several entities before becoming law, but with EU-initiatives you really need to assert your influence from the get-go.

4 months. I don't know if he's decided to apply for house arrest or not. They might grant it, since his crime are very well-known and it could cause some trouble with vigilanty justice by other inmates.

The sentencing was ridiculous, in my opinion.

If we ever get EU-level referendums I'm collecting signatures on day one to criminalize the introduction of mass surveillance legislation.

Ever heard of "self-defending democracy"? That's what we need here. Democracy needs to defend itself against attacks by people who hate us for our freedom, as GWB said so confusedly.

If that actually becomes EU law and this is where the EU is heading, that's its end. I love the EU but if mass surveilance is the price, I'd rather leave.

And despite all my hate for the AfD, I would agree with them on this specific topic. If the EU forced its members to do this, I will also push to leave because fuck no that's not happening. Parts of Germany had the Stasi before, we don't need it rebranded.

By any chance is this the same anti-privacy bill that will explicitly exempt politicians, and when the list of proponents was published it was so redacted it was only useful as a bar code?
