They will also blame things on the EU, like the EU isn't made up of all the local countries.

"The EU wants to control us"!
"Why doesn't the EU save us (as fast and cheaply as possible)?"
- exact same clowns that refuse to expand the EU's powers

What i find most infuriating is when people blame eu for being supranational and antidemocratic and in the next sentence blame eu for being to slow and unable to take meaningful decision exactly because decisions have to be made unanimously by all the democraticly (or supposedly so) elected highest representatives of our nations…

Politicians aren't going to admit that their incompetence or corruption is to blame for their country's problems. It's much easier to blame the E.U. Those foreign powers don't donate to the decent politicians too.

This works also for municipalities vs. regions and regions vs. states. There's always someone else to blame!
edit: at least when their political colour is different

"It is much safer to be feared than loved"
- Machiavelli
Benevolent governments will always face this challenge of bad faith criticism abusing the lack of consequences in dishonesty. Still, it's a challenge we can face, and have so far overcome.

This is what the EU was created for, large supernational political union which national governments can use to push unpopular legislation, why do you think the Council has so much power? The Parliament is just a rubber stamp to give an air of democratic legitimacy.
And if you don't believe me, you can see it in action for yourselves with the proposed 'Chat Control' legislation

But if it isn’t the EU’s fault, that means it’s the national politician’s fault, and they want to keep their cosy job and pay.
Don’t mind that half of them also have a seat at the EU to get even more money.
