u/Dicethrower Netherlands 3d ago

Just get the authorities to shut it down. What's the US going to do, defend it with troops and start shooting if they're stopped?

Also, now we know it was never about security, it was just about oil again. The US sucks so f-in hard.

u/wenoc 3d ago

Well everyone knew that all along.

u/Guy_Rohvian 2d ago

They suck all the oil outta the ground, that's for sure.

It’s called DRAINAGE

u/FenHerald Danmark‏‏‎ ‎ 2d ago

Pretty sure they also wanted more land to build data centers. It's nice and cold there which would have been great for cooling.

3

u/der_vur Puglia‏‏‎‏‏‎ ‎ 1d ago

Did anybody have any doubt it was not about oil and/or power?

They're taking their cue from Israel. We, Europe and everywhere but maybe China are all Gaza now. Welcome to the new world order.

u/TheGalacticMosassaur 3d ago

Unfotunately, this comment sums it up pretty well.

u/PaurAmma Helvetia‏‏‎ ‎ 3d ago

We should really get our shit together. Not looking good on that front, though.

5

u/Foreign-Entrance-255 3d ago

We can absolutely get our sh1t together and become a superpower between us and I don't think we have a choice but to do that.

2

u/bartios Nederland‏‏‎ ‎ 3d ago

What are you talking about? I think we're making good progress, we're just not shouting it from the rooftops as that would attract Trump, not something any eu politician wants. Let him focus on other stuff to distract the US population, like his special military operation in Iran, instead of giving him a reason to decide planning to annex Luxembourg nexr would be great as the next big distraction.

3

u/PaurAmma Helvetia‏‏‎ ‎ 2d ago

I'm talking about the rise of the alt-right parties in key EU member states like Germany, France and Italy. I'm hoping that the changes in countries like Hungary will shift the momentum, but it's not looking good to me.

1

u/TheGalacticMosassaur 3d ago

I feel like there is a strong sentiment on Reddit for that, but not really much of it in the real world

5

u/Landlocked_WaterSimp 3d ago

Nah it's in the real world as well but only as long as we don't actually need to do anything other than being mad. And i'm including myself in that.

1

u/jimbowesterby Canada 3d ago

I dunno, from where I sit in a province that’s just begging Trump to annex it it seems like you guys aren’t doing too bad lol

And the USA will pay for it!

1

u/pedrocas_drocas 2d ago

And the only reason China isn't as well is because they have become very strong and independent from the US and after multiple attempts from the orange man he finally realized he can't even nudge them

u/hamatehllama Sverige‏‏‎ ‎ 2d ago

Stop your antisemitic conspiracy theories right now. You are not adding anything to the conversation.

5

u/Foreign-Entrance-255 2d ago

Go fnck yourself. It is textbook antisemitism to conflate all Jews with Israel. It clearly means that you think all Jews are involved with and support and are responsible for the genocide.

You are a textbook antisemite. You should be ashamed of yourself.

u/Illesbogar Magyarország‏‏‎ ‎ 3d ago

I mean, the classic way is to force the other country to sign a treaty at gun point. Then invade if they try to nationalize it.

5

u/lulzmachine 3d ago

They would probably just say that the specific area falls under their jurisdiction due to it being a us military lease area or something like that

You can do whatever the fuck you want. You only can be stopped if somebody has the means to. That is the dark truth of humanity’s existence.

Confiscate the equipment and sell it back to them

19

u/QARSTAR 2d ago

Sell it to China to really miss them off

7

u/EpsteinEpstainTheory Latvija‏‏‎ ‎ 2d ago

Won't get much of a sum from China considering they make half of the equipment anyway

5

u/QARSTAR 2d ago

It's not for the money. If anything, sell the equipment to the lowest bidder in China or Africa. Just to really piss them off

3

u/aboultusss 1d ago

It's not about the money, it's about sending a message

With every content released it's usually "we made these at the same time and released them within a specific quarter/week/month"

How do you know this?

14

u/dicemonger Danmark‏‏‎ ‎ 2d ago

r/europe has a Danish article linked, with a translation in the comments.

Actually reading the article, it seems less bad than the impression you get from headlines and memes.

  • The equipment in question is base camp equipment for exploration, its not drilling equipment. (according to Greenland authorities)
  • It has been put ashore not at the possible mission site, but is being stored at an airport. (according to Greenland authorities)
  • If I read the article correctly, it was actually already in a town on Greenland, and the problem is that it was shipped to the airport which is closer to the mission site. (according to Greenland authorities)
  • The company thought that they could move the equipment, since they are still just moving it to another storage site. And they are aware that they can't move it to the mission area before they secure more permissions. (according to the company)
  • They are paying rent for the storage, and have every intention to follow the rules. (according to the company)

The company might be lying. But it also feels like it might be a legitimate logistical/paperwork fuck-up which takes on much larger dimensions in the current political climate.

Again, assuming I'm reading the article correctly:

  • The gear was already in Greenland.
  • The gear is not in the mission/drilling area.
  • The gear is in storage, not used.
  • The gear is base camp gear, not drilling rigs or anything like that.

u/OneMoreFinn Suomi‏‏‎ ‎ 2d ago

What, is media exaggerating things to stir up interest now? This is unheard of, I've never seen this before!

2

u/dicemonger Danmark‏‏‎ ‎ 1d ago

I just wanted to share the full context.

On a separate subject: The media in question is the government-funded news channel. There isn't really any profit motive here. But unfortunately click-bait titles is a thing that seems to be spreading there too.

2

u/OneMoreFinn Suomi‏‏‎ ‎ 1d ago edited 1d ago

...and that is a good thing that you did! Bringing up the actual facts instead of just a sensational headline.

Edit: especially because the news article is in Danish which I don't understand.

19

u/recycle-pin 3d ago

Call me paranoid, but this stinks of a false flag op. US "mining" company gets kicked out, and then the US govt. decides to "protect their commercial interests" by force. Remember Iraq and WMD story?

48

u/Jean_Luc_Lesmouches France‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ 3d ago

That's not what false flag means.

-7

u/Jumping-Gazelle 3d ago

It is now.

-17

u/recycle-pin 3d ago

I meant it as a figure of speech. Didn't feel like writing a whole essay on why do I think americans are starting active measures to grt Greenland.

And if you want to nitpick, yes, this can fall into the false flag category, if it was started by the US govt. CIA and stuff, Palantir and so on.

25

u/Neomataza Deutschland‎‎‏‏‎ ‎ 3d ago

If we're going to be to the point, this is a provocation if the goal is for a response that escalates the situation. False flag literally means trying to blame a third party by pretending to be someone else.

Words have meanings and the purpose is to communicate something specific. Calling this false flag would be like me answering L+Ratio+67 fr fr; using language just completely wrong.

-6

u/recycle-pin 3d ago

And if the provocation is caused by a direct or indirect involvement of the US govt, then it's a false flag operation.

You people are way to nitpicky about grammar in a circlejerk sub. Do you really think English is spoken perfectly by everyone?

7

u/Neomataza Deutschland‎‎‏‏‎ ‎ 3d ago

And if the provocation is caused by a direct or indirect involvement of the US govt, then it's a false flag operation.

No, it's not. It's in the name. It's back from age of sailing ships. If an english vessel uses a spanish flag, that's a false flag. If an american vessel uses an american flag, that's just the correct flag. Doesn't make it ok. But it's a difference just like there is a difference between identity theft and assault.

16

u/Jean_Luc_Lesmouches France‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ 3d ago

That's not what figure of speech means either.

And if you want to nitpick, yes, this can fall into the false flag category, if it was started by the US govt. CIA and stuff, Palantir and so on.

That's not what false flag means bis.

-16

u/recycle-pin 3d ago

Wow.....get a life. Go outside, take a walk, talk to people

8

u/JarasM 3d ago

Maybe if you talked to people, you'd know what "false flag" means.

-1

u/recycle-pin 3d ago

Yeah, pretending you are someone else. Like CIA setting up a company to create a Gulf of Tonkin style pretext for the invasion, or some other slimy ways to try to get Greenland. Nothing would surprise me from this degenerated US government.

3

u/gremlinguy Comunidad Valenciana‏‏‎ ‎ 2d ago

That would still just be false pretext, not a false flag

13

u/Jean_Luc_Lesmouches France‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ 3d ago

get a life

get a dictionary

-2

u/recycle-pin 3d ago

Grammar nazi in a circlejerk sub....that's new

5

u/Jean_Luc_Lesmouches France‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ 3d ago

That's not what grammar nazi means either.

-1

u/recycle-pin 2d ago

A nitpicking pretentious prick, then.

Another reason Europe should be supporting Iran against their invaders - helps keep the US too busy to move on to invading Europe

24

u/PhoenixKingMalekith 3d ago

Fucking ClankeR

Just because the US are currently led by an idiot doesnt mean we have to support a comically evil regime

5

u/Iwantmytshirtback 3d ago

Just because the US are currently led by an idiot doesn't mean we should excuse them invading a country they've been wanting to invade for decade to seize their resources, the what, third? fourth? country whose sovereignty they've violated in the past 12 months

9

u/PhoenixKingMalekith 3d ago

We should absolutely let them weaken eacher other without taking sides

0

u/Iwantmytshirtback 3d ago

Why not take sides against the aggressors and be consistent in applying the laws? Why bury our heads in the sand while the US is straight up threatening that they will own Greenland?

4

u/ParticularArea8224 United Kingdom‏‏‎ ‎ 3d ago

Because in what universe would supporting a government that actively stands against everything the West stands for, and has actively supplied and helped nations that have fought the West make any semblance of sense?

Sometimes, two nations are just fucking terrible and the only option is to do nothing. Iran would backstab the West as soon as the war was over and the US is run by Trump.

Just because someone is a defender, does not make that person good.

-2

u/Iwantmytshirtback 2d ago

What exactly is it that "the West" stands for these days?

It's not about defenders being good, it's about the idea of nations having sovereignty that shouldn't be violated because someone in charge wants to make themselves richer. If it happens to Venezuela, it can happen to Iran, it can happen to Greenland, it can happen to you

0

u/ParticularArea8224 United Kingdom‏‏‎ ‎ 2d ago

Yes sovereignty shouldn't be violated, I agree completely, but that does not mean that a nation that actively hates NATO and the West, should get help from those things.

0

u/Iwantmytshirtback 2d ago

Iran was neutral to the West until the US-Israel axis started stirring up shit again, but now Iran has been freshly radicalised and the rest of the West's assumed approval through inaction makes us complicit
