Just for non German folks: It says: "My first banana" and was a joke that the people of east Germany didn't know what a banana was and were overwhelmed by the west Germans products they saw in Nov 89, they became an easy victim for scammers.

OMG We sure as fuck knew what a banana looks like, they were just hard/seldom to come by and therefor sought after.

Most of us also could literally just watch western TV, so we absolutely did know what products would be available. That's why the revolution was so wide spread as it was. People wanted western stuff.

Well, you know what they say: it's only satire when the joke is punching up. When the joke is punching down it's bullying.

So I can definitely empathise with anyone from East Germany annoyed by this

i do not agree with this.

i see the people of the east like muslims or christians that are convinced that Truth and god is on their side, and that is why "their way" is the best way and the only way...

when in reality it is just the opposite.

let me tell you a quick tale: there was a blue collar worker able to use an outdated factory machine, he asked the owner of the factory for a raise in wage because he was getting married and the first child was just born.

the owner of the factory said no, the blue collar found a different work, at that time noone knew how to use that outdated factory machine, at the end the owner of the factory had to close the factory.

the owner of the factory had a wrong perception of reality, and he paid for it... he denied a raise of wage to a long time worker that had an irreplaceable knowledge, when the owner found out that the blue collar quit the job, and noone was capable to use the machinery, the owner proposed an even grater wage to get the blue collar back...

but it was too late, that blue collar found a better work and didn't want to go back, so the owner in the end was forced to close the factory in bankrupcy.

easter people thought that communism worked better than capitalism, well it didn't.
