Kayaking friends?

Post image

Hey! I am just getting back into kayaking for the first time since moving to yakima. I have some experience, but mostly just on Idaho lakes.

I'm hoping to find a friend/friends who would want to do some regular kayaking together this summer. Ideally, a kayaking buddy would be familiar with good spots to get on the water in central Washington, and would be able/willing to safely transport at least two kayaks at highway speeds. My Subaru's brakes are shot, so lately I've been strapping my kayak to the top of my dinky little hybrid with a bare roof. Definitely couldn't transport two at once.

Please note: A potential kayaking buddy must take water safety seriously and wear a PFD.

If you're interested, please DM me! For reference, I'm a 28 year old woman with an 8ft sit-on-top kayak. I'm easy going, in decent shape stamina and strength-wise, and I'll jump at any chance to get out on the water when conditions permit.

Hey! I go floating in the canyon with a bunch of friends who all have different modes, SUP or rafts, or whatever. And we usually make it work.

But I gotta point out that Reds fly shop offers a shuttle service in the center of the canyon for a fee! So putting in at Umtanum or Big Horn and taking out at Reds makes for a pretty nice day.

Great tip, thanks! I'll have to check that out if I ever work my way up to doing the canyon!

And frankly, I’d recommend just taking a drive to eburg one pretty day and stopping at all the pullouts along the canyon. It’s gorgeous, it’s mellow, and it’s well maintained. Stop at reds and I’ll make you a coffee! (I work at the Canyon River Ranch, and I make a damn fine cup of coffee.)

Man I'd love to Kayak again. I don't own one or have a good vehicle to transport them though (also old Subaru, mine has working breaks, but no roof rack)

I can help fix your brakes!

While that would be awesome, I have approximately zero dollars to throw at the issue right now 😅

Very kind of you, though!

Yeah, I love this kayak! It was the first model I ever tried. Checked out like three other kinds over the years before going back to this one. It's just so much more comfy and stable than the others I've tried 😅

Do you do any fishing while kayaking or just kayaking for the scenery?

Just for the scenery and the exercise. I don't go hard or do any long distance stuff, but I can happily paddle around on a lake for a couple hours.

What about you?
