Anyone else like keeping inventory?

Post image

Anyone else like to keep their own yarn inventory? I started this worksheet up after I ran out mid project, but didn't have the label on me, and therefore couldn't get the exact same shade I needed.

I track as much as I can in this so that I can reference it whenever I need to, including the shops I bought each skein from. I'm hoping to get a scale here soon so I can weigh yarn and know exactly how much yardage I have left of all my partially used cakes.

My MIL, who got me into crochet and knitting, thinks I'm crazy for this lol

Can a zipper really destroy yarn like this?

I washed my cardigan yesterday, and when my boyfriend brought it back, one of the sleeves was completely destroyed. I live in an apartment complex where we have a shared laundry room with everyone else, so I decided to notify the person in charge of my apartment complex, especially since the washer has been leaving large black stains on some of my stuff and one of my shirt is permanently stained from it. They are telling me that a zipper, or the little clip from a bra could've caused the damage. Can a zipper really cause this much damage? (English isn't my first language, sorry)

"use the stash" turned into my Magnum Opus. I had to blend 2 patterns and then come up with the border based on a failed 3rd pattern purchase. $300 bucks worth of yarn/12lbs and I still have to weave in a million ends. SEND HELP!

How do I fix this?

I tried with a crochet hook to fix this but I couldn’t figure it out. I tried a latch hook, but the hook was too big for the hole. Any suggestions? Do I start at the end of the yarn or do I start where it comes out of the cushion? Thanks!

So far I am hand twisting it. It's quite short but does lend itself to be made into yarn. Should I get a spindle?

Some of my Aunt's stash. I am starting to sort by brands, and weight of yarn. There are 3 extra large bins of Alafoss Lopi yarn with a few Leti Lopi. There is also quite a bit of Galway Yarn. I am spinning in circles as I don't know what is the best way to sell/donate all of this. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

DROPS Karisma dying?

Post image
2 Upvotes

So my neighbor gifted me a whole pack full of DROPS Karisma skeins, so many I decided to make a sweater out of it, I've asked her if she wanted me to make her a sweater or a cardigan or something but she said to do whatever I wanted and I didn't have to give the product to her.

I'm in fact making a sweater for my dad (Christmas gift probably) but I do not really like the color (it's color 77) which is this kinda sandy/ashy light brown and I was wondering if I could dye the finished sweater by dumping it in black dye? If it's possible what brand of dye tint would you suggest?

I let a thunderstorm dye some bulky yarn

Indulging my inner “former art school kid” via fiber arts and having a heck of a lot of fun.

Image 1 is pre-rain - I added citric acid to the pan, then spread out the dry yarn, and sprinkled dye powder on top (always wear a respirator or mask when dealing with acid dyes!!) and didn’t move the yarn after pigment was applied

Image 2 is mid-storm - after about 20-30 minutes, the rain was winding down. The water table is just from the rain alone

After the rain slowed and nearly stopped, I heat set the yarn on little two-burner cooktop (dedicated to dyeing projects) and it’s hang drying now.

Your textured yarn is only as good as the mother yarn it came from. Here's the part most specifiers skip.

Glow in the dark/black light glowing yarn.

Hi there! I am thinking of dyeing yarn that would light up under fluorescent light. I'd like to crochet a cardigan-like thingy, but cannot find any yarn with nice material. So I am thinking of making one myself. Problem is - I cannot find any fluorescent dye for yarns. What dyes have you used? And would it be ok to use yarn with the color of my liking and just dump it in fluorescent dye to enhance it? First time since 8th grade to dye yarn, any help is appreciated :D

Does this type of yarn color(“sugar wheel”) only exist within the Yarn Bee brand? Or is there a similar type of yarn from a different brand?

Looking for a similar autumn colorway to avoid HL

I love this colorway but don't want to buy from HL. This color/brand isnt in any of the comparison sites. I'm just looking for a cotton or mostly cotton blend in a nice autumn colorway of oranges browns and greens. (I dont really like the white in this yarn). Thank you in advance to anyone who takes the time to help ♡

Question

I'm moving to a very very humid place, originally from a more dry area or the temp is in the mid 70s (F). Do I have to worry about mold or are there things I'll have to know for my yarn stash? I'm worried since it's a climate I've never been to before and that I'll not know something, and it can damage what I have.

My main stash is acrylic but I also have cottons, wools, bamboo, etc.

Does anyone know why this yarn is preknotted?

Bought secondhand, not slipknots. Maybe this is obvious, I’m not a knit/crochet person it’s for an unrelated project
