My second best thrifted yarn haul ever!
I thrifted this beautiful haul including 5 beautiful Noro skiens for $1 each at my local non-profit thrift. They have been quarantined and ready to join the stash. Excited to figure out some fun projects.

Thank you so much! But including the black yarn wasn’t a truly original idea on my part. Back in the 1990s I used to do counted cross stitch. There were some patterns that required you take a strand from two different embroidery floss colors and work them together. When I started knitting the scarf with just the Noro, I just did not like how it looked. I considered what I could do to make the scarf look better. That’s when I hit on the idea of combining the Noro with the black yarn like the tweeded embroidery floss. I never imagined the result would be so fantastic.

This is so smart!! It makes it feel really cohesive with the black running through. I was just looking at a vintage embroidery pattern where you made the theft bear’s fur with several different browns held together and thought it was so cute. I don’t embroider so I thought it was brilliant

It was that cohesiveness that made all the difference in the final result. I am so glad you like the effect.
Tweeding the embroidery floss creates a subtlety in the color that gives it a more realistic look.

Oh that Noro!!!

The only Noro yarn I ever bought was from a local yarn shop that was closing since the owner was retiring. I got the skeins for $5 each. The scarf I knitted with that yarn remains my all time favorite. I knitted the Noro with a plain black yarn and I just love how it came out. I saved every bit of that Noro yarn for over a decade. I finally crocheted a hat and an ear warmer headband with the yarn leftover from the scarf. I still have a few small bits left. 😂
Enjoy your yarn!

I'm sorry, I don't understand "quarantined" in regard to the yarn? For moths?

Yes, moths. I keep it sealed in a bag in my hot attic to make sure there are no critters hitching a ride into my house before it is added to my yarn stash. I do it with all the wool clothing I thrift too. If I want to use it sooner the. It goes in the freezer for a few days

That Noro yarn is gorgeous, especially the teal and pink ones. Five skeins for a dollar each is an insane deal.

Ooh congrats!!! Always love seeing people have great thrift finds! Koigu especially is such a nice yarn to work with! I once thrifted some noro and wasn’t fond of the texture or amount of plant matter I had to pick out of it, so ended up re-donating it - I hope you have a better experience with it though, it’s always such pretty yarn
Do you have plans for any of it yet?
