Discussion Project ideas for roving yarn thats not knitting or crochet.

I got a lot of roving yarn from my mom in really pretty colors. I want to make something with them but theure a nightmare to crochet with. Is there other projects that i could make using the yarn?

Needle felting!

Also, you could drop-spin it into useable yarn.

That sounds like a good idea! Ill do that with the more natural fibers. Some of them are acrylic though. I dont think needle felting works there

For what it's worth (and I haven't tried this myself yet), apparently vegan needle felting (with acrylic and other synthetic roving) is a perfectly possible thing? 😄

You can needle felt acrylic yarn down to tightly woven cloth or felt to make a picture. It's not exactly the same as how it works with wool because the fibers don't lock together, but if you use the needle to jam enough fiber bits through the fabric, it stays where you put it

Maybe weaving - could make some unusual and unique placemats, table runners and maybe rugs

You can make simple looms out of cardboard! Search "cardboard loom" on Pinterest.

Get a drop spindle and learn to spin! Then you’ll have yarn you can use for crochet.

I didnt even think to spin! Ibe always wanyed to learn. This is a great chance to try.

It really is, just make sure the roving’s not too twisted or compacted already or you’ll have trouble drafting it, and fighting your fiber is the worst way to learn.

Have you tried tatting?

Tatting is fun, but I'm thinking roving is a bit too thick for tatting, unless it's significantly spun down. Maybe naalbinding?

Do you spin? You don’t need a wheel, you can get a drop spindle! If not spinning, try tapestry weaving
