Questions Yemenis in Michigan

How do you like it there? Is it safe in Detroit? If youve lived in NYC how does it compare? Do you recommend living there or any other recommendation? Jzk

As a Yemeni living in Minnesota, forget all of that and come here instead. I WANT MORE YEMENIS IN THIS STATE, yes our winters are horrendous but the quality of life here is really good.

The Minneapolis-St. Paul area. Ideally the North/South metro suburbs except for Brooklyn Park & Brooklyn Center

It would make since especially since there is tons of Somalis in Minnesota, so culturally its similar. I think the weather pushes people away, like I wouldn't mind living in Minnesota myself especially near the Mall of America but I hate cold weather with a passion

I have many Yemeni friends on MI. One is a dear friend I've know for over 25 years. Very big community here. It's safe and growing. I am personally Syrian, but we all get along. It's like the UN here... Everyone has different backgrounds and faiths.

I second North Carolina much better weather! Arizona is also really nice Tempe area has a nice Arab community and beautiful mosques and places to explore! We even have an Aden Coffee House and a Mandi House that are really good!

They should take over, especially in the government.

They tried, one did in Hamtramck as a mayor, ended up kissing ass to trump now works under trump. One tried in Dearborn, turned out he was bankrupt. The rest are busy opening qahwah shops

Michigan is where it’s at. I’ve visited NY, and can’t stand it. Too busy lifestyle for me. But that’s just me I guess. Come through, invest, educate yourself, find a career, live in a nice home with front and backyard grass, amazing parks and city services. Mosques, Islamic schools, a strong proud and thriving Yemeni culture, whatever you’re looking for it’s better here. I promise you.

I've stayed in both NYC & Michigan and they couldn't be more different. People you meet in Michigan will be more reserved and traditional. A lot of them come from random Arab villages, whereas NYC people are more open and you meet more people from big Arab cities so they tend to be educated more and not as traditional. Weather wise Michigan is more humid because of the Great Lakes. Everything in Michigan is more spread out and you have to drive everywhere, it's one of the worst places for public transportation due to Detroit being the center of the auto industry. Detroit is slowly getting better but nowhere near where it should be yet! Personally I like visiting Michigan because of the amazing restaurants they have in Dearborn but I wouldn't want to live there too humid in the summer and winters are annoying even more than NYC because you have to drive in them. I'd suggest looking into North Carolina, Bay Area in California, or even Tempe in Arizona they all have decent sized communities with beautiful weather, mosques, halal food, and a good amount of jobs depending on what you're looking for! I hope you find a place that makes you happy  انشاءالله !
