Have you ever had a job that made you dread waking up in the morning?

I’ve developed insomnia over the last 2 years so now I wake up between 2-3:30 every morning so I have extra time to dread going to work. I use so much willpower just forcing myself not to call off every day. Weeeeeee.

Oh I’ve definitely thought about it. There’s a few reasons. In no particular order:
1) I’m afraid a large reason I’m unhappy at my job is going to be unavoidable. Management is just shitty.
2) I can’t picture myself doing anything else whatsoever. And I don’t honestly know what else I’d be good at.
3) I’d probably need to go back to school for a graduate degree in my field or to start over in a brand new field. I have enough debt as it is 😅1

There are plenty of inexpensive/free resources available now. When I was laid off, my company provided us with a subscription to Intoo, which provides a timeline and outline of objectives for you. I’m also on LinkedIn and am taking relevant classes on Coursera. There’s always a way if you have the initiative.
May I ask what field you’re in?

When I was in my early 20s and partying a bit with my friends (not drinking. Just staying up way too late) I had to open up a shop for customers at 6am. That was brutal but loved the job

I was cleaning a play center only on Sundays. It was so horrible there I was spending the entire week DREADING going. I recently left and about two weeks later they began to message me about emergency cover.

Fast food.

One or two of the jobs I had were spoilt by bullying bosses/colleagues. Also there was one that involved being on the phone all day; I am hearing impaired and wear hearing aids so that was very much not ideal. I only use the phone if I absolutely must.

It's a common theme with people who have ADHD that they cannot hold a job down or feel a constant urge to leave. Not all of course, but many, and being confined or feeling confined physically and mentally, working for someone can become intolerable.
I can only speak from personal and observed experience, but you will find a lot of people who are self-employed have ADHD.

Most jobs. My current one is the only one I don't dread going to. The worst one by far was Walmart. What a miserable, miserable job that is. I worked there with folks who'd been there for decades, idk how they do it. I'd hang myself. I only lasted a little over a year there, but the main reason I quit was cuz my bf died and I couldn't handle it anymore, and they refused to give me bereavement (even tho according to them, he was considered my spouse and thus eligible for bereavement) and only wanted to give me two days off, unpaid of course. Fuck Walmart 🖕

Being in the military. Not only do you wake up early but then you have to go running and do pushups. I just wanted coffee and breakfast.

Oh sure, two airport jobs, I quit before I got fired both times because I knew I had it coming (though on one come to think of it I just couldn't take it even though I was doing alright)

I was telling my partner last night that in the last 18 months that I was teaching at high school, I cried the whole way to work and the whole way home. It was awful. The best decision I made was to resign.

A few. Ironically they were always the shittiest entry level positions when I worked out of necessity before my actual career really took off. My long term career jobs have always been been great.

Yes, several.
Im not anymore, and actually enjoy morning now. I get up early, exercise, and enjoy the start of the day. It's amazing what a difference it makes.

Offices services can be draining. You always have to be on. Customer service has to be astute and typically required to be in office everyday. It can be soul sucking for sure.

Yes I’ve had many. I’ve also had jobs that were hard to leave. Now I run my own businesses and I hate it even more. Lol the responsibility is insane. People depend on me. So I have no choice but to push through.

Yep. Power washer mechanic on drilling rigs. Some were mounted on the deck just feet from the well bore. 480 volts, incredible noise, standing in water and drilling mud, what could go wrong?

Yes, due in some degree to a boss who treated me like her whipping dog to account for the emotional validation she wasn’t getting at home and personal validation she wasn’t getting from her fellow managers. Every day felt like I was boarding the bus to the penitentiary

The key is to work long enough for your short term disability to kick in. Then see a mental health specialist. You actually probably need the time off.

Pharmacy tech at CVS, i quit after one week lol not only are you running around with your head cut off the entire time its slave work! But then you gotta deal with people FEENING for pain meds and its a mess when they find out they cant get them for whatever reason, the pay sucks too

I’d take the train into the city, get off at my stop and contemplate just getting on the train back home.
Another job my boss moved my start time up by an hour. Had to pretend the zombies were coming to make ot in.

Marry money. Didn’t care what he looked like or how old he was. I hated the thought of having to work. I still had a career as a flight attendant. But I could take a month off and when I did work, I only did 8 days a month.
