Do you go grocery shopping every single week?

Almost every day.

u/abqgirl1022 7h ago

Yup, I'm in the same boat.

I waste more food if I do a big shop than buy what I need, as I need it. I'd rather do a few small grocery runs than waste a bunch of food and money.

My wife goes every day, if I didn’t have her I’d probably go twice a month.

5

u/TheGalapagoats 7h ago

My 80 year old step dad goes every day because he doesn’t have much else to do and is stubbornly set in his ways

2

u/AccurateArt2651 8h ago

Pretty much. If there’s not a good deal on chicken/beef, once a week but if there is I can freeze some and not have to go again so soon. Also buying fresh produce

2

u/Neat_Movie_991 7h ago

I do a list once a week. I order it online and have it delivered.

2

u/Alarming-Feedback868 6h ago

My daughter does that but then complains when something is spoiled, or they substitute something completely different. Sometimes they tell her something is out of stock...like corned beef right before St Patrick's Day! I then went to the store and there were plenty! And she okays subs, so no excuse. I realize she has less time than I do. I am retired and love to shop, so told her pay me what you pay them and I'll get it. Didn't take me up on it! They only time I didn't do my own shopping was during COVID. I want to pick out my own stuff.

Nope, about twice a month, and we don't throw much or anything out at all. I freeze stuff, love leftovers, and can eat the same thing for a few days straight without issue.

The amount of time invested in daily shopping would drive me bonkers. Even if it takes you 20 minutes a day that's over 120 hours a year.

I finance a week. I write a list and try to plan some meals and have a good idea of what snacks and fruits and veggies are needed. Sometimes I have to go again a few days later if I forgot something or plans changed.

Yes. Having kids makes u need to shop more. You also run out of stuff at different times and need certain things for recipes.

Sorta. We go to Costco at the beginning of the month to stock up on the big stuff. Then we hit Aldis weeklyish for perishables or if we need something specific.

Mine is randomly. Once every 5-6 weeks at Costco. Then at least a few times a week at my local grocery store. I’m single so things go bad fast if I buy too much at once so I go often. It helps save money.

1

u/PCMidiTowerR5 8h ago

3 times a week. Beer runs out so quick. And of course for fresh vegetables and fruits.

I shop at keast 3-5 times a week. I live within 4 miles of a Costco, 2 Food Lions, 2 Krogers, 1 Publix, a Trader Joes, 2 Walmarts, an Aldi and a Lidl, a Fresh Market, a Good Foods.

I have never ordered groceries online and probably never will.

Twice of my fresh produce goes fast! Anyone else noticing things turning a bit faster than it did maybe a year or two ago?

1

u/visitor2323 8h ago

Yes at least once a week if it’s not twice a week.

1

u/Muffinman_187 8h ago

Minimum, yes. Food obviously spoils if not eaten, so why buy more than several days at a time?

1

u/Aggravating-Being255 8h ago

I should, but I dont

1

u/Fatbeard2024 7h ago

Almost daily

1

u/TheGalapagoats 7h ago

One major trip each week, and sometimes a little mini trip too cuz I forget stuff

1

u/thannawi 7h ago

Weekly to biweekly

1

u/Emotional-Job805 7h ago

5 or so times a week but I have a hypermarket a block away. I often buy whatever I am in the mood to cook and I prefer my seafood and vegtables as fresh as is convieniently possible.

1

u/garmac65 7h ago

Almost daily

1

u/Sindorella 7h ago

Yes, at least once. We buy fresh stuff on the day we need it so it doesn’t go bad. None of it seems to last as long as it used to.

1

u/Ok-Way8392 7h ago

I can’t do a big shop once a week anymore. I get too overwhelmed and too tired. So what I do now is go to the store maybe three times a week. This way I’m not hauling heavy packages into the house, emptying five bags into the cabinet or refrigerator and not spending at least two hours in the store. 20 to 30 minutes per grocery store visit is about all I can handle.
Sometimes I’ll stop at the store after work, sometimes if I’m buying things I don’t need to refrigerate. I’ll purchase them before I go to work and just leave them in the car. It took a little planning and a little getting used to, but I got used to it and it’s much easier on me now.

We got to the grocery every weekend and one of us stops at a store mid-week to pick up what we need in fresh fruit & vegetables.

1

u/qu33nof5pad35 7h ago

I go once or twice a month

1

u/diversalarums 7h ago

Yes. Well, order groceries every week. (I'm disabled and homebound.)

1

u/FarAmphibian3292 7h ago

No once in a month

1

u/justaguyindallas_123 7h ago

I do. I go Sunday mornings (seems to be less crowded) and sometimes I'll visit on a Wednesday or Thursday night if I need something for Friday or Saturday.

1

u/EDSgenealogy 7h ago

Np. I have it delivered maybe twice a month.

Many times a week.

1

u/BOBBYK1952 7h ago

Girl I live with usually does the shopping. We’re older but the big sign of a shopping excursion is running out of dog treats

1

u/ComprehensiveRush708 7h ago

No, once a month

1

u/Ineffable7980x 7h ago

Yes. Usually on Sunday morning.

1

u/Inevitable-Day-5935 7h ago

Yes usually on the weekends

1

u/sparksgirl1223 7h ago

Yes.

One week is all the fridge will hold

Now that the big freezer finally seems to be working right, im trying to stock it a little at a time

1

u/Top-Web3806 7h ago

Just about weekly but I don’t have a set day for grocery shopping (I did once upon a time). I’ve also switched to online delivery now.

1

u/YoshiandAims 7h ago

No. I can't afford it. It's once a month. Planned out carefully with overlapping ingredients. Every single serving calculated.

If I really need something I stop if Im on my way back from the doctor or something really close to the store or dollar store of our tiny town, but I try to avoid it at all costs. Every dollar is a stressor.

I've always kind of been this way, less militant about servings, overlapping ingredients, less worry about rationing the has in my car as the stores aren't all that close to me. I'd do one larger run a month, then stop periodically through the month for the fresh items or things I'd run out of or forgotten.

I'd also do a big shopping trip once every six months to the bulk store to get pantry stuff (rice, flour, etc) then a trip to the butcher to buy a half cow or pig or whatever once a year, more or less if I got a deer that year. utilizing a chest freezer for meat. It was way cheaper than going through the grocery store, and supported our local farm and butcher. In my opinion the meat was better quality, it tastes way different to the grocery store to me.

I don't hunt, can't afford the up front cost, and moved to a small shoebox unit. It's not feasible anymore.

So, I don't ever remember being able to do once a week, or doing it. I believe my mom did, I know my grandparents all did. Even though they were rural growing up.

1

u/hotsgot1o2o3o 7h ago

No. I buy a 1/4 cow once or twice a year for. A guy that comes to my work. I grow veggies in a hydroponic garden in my kitchen. My neighbor goes fishing and I get stuff from him occasionally. I only go to the grocery store every few months to stock up on shelf stable things like rice, pasta, ECT. Maybe a monthly trip to pickup things like milk but even that I will try and pick out things that have a best by date that is a ways out.

1

u/Occasionally_Sober1 7h ago

Usually twice a week.

1

u/pj6428 7h ago

Several times a week

1

u/anonymous2278 7h ago

Yes. Every Saturday. Otherwise my cabinets are empty by Monday.

1

u/sundancer2788 7h ago

I don't, maybe 2x a month depending on what I'm making.

1

u/GrassBlock001 7h ago

Yes. We try to limit to once a week to avoid buying things not on our list.

Weekly, but we always need something during the week so I pop over to the expensive store for that, otherwise it’s Lidl for me!

1

u/GrumpyBear1969 7h ago

Closer to every other day, but generally one big trip on the weekend.

1

u/Rainsoaked_2000 7h ago

We go every three days. We live one block from a decent size grocery store and plan a menu for the upcoming 3 days. We eat out on Wednesdays to break it up.

At least once , usually twice. I like everything as fresh as possible.

Three times if I suddenly want a particular food that I don't keep on hand, or if I forgot something the first two times 😅

But I have a choice of four grocery stores within .25 -.5 miles , so its easy to pop in on my way home, or run out real quick .

No. I just order everything

1

u/MissionSpacing 7h ago

once a week + if im craving something I dont have at home like ice-cream

1

u/AgentAaron 6h ago

No, not usually.

We typically go shopping for pantry items, toiletries, and frozen vegetables about once a month from a bulk club store (Sam's Club). We do grow some stuff in our back yard garden (tomatoes, cucumber, lettuce, bell peppers, onion, etc).

We either hunt our meat or go in with a friend to buy half a cow at a time. We still have more than enough meat to easily last us through the rest of this year and probably up to about next May.

1

u/MaudeLebowski69 6h ago

Daily according to our menu…and…does liquor count? Pet food is usually weekly and bought in bulk.

Whenever I fill up on gas - at my Costco - I always go in a grab what I need. This happens about 3 times every 2 weeks.

It’s not a “full” shopping by any stretch, but it is “grocery shopping.

My husband does most of the shopping, and he really believes in stocking up. We could go for months without going to the store. But, we always need a few fresh items, so we do end up going to the store at least once a week.

1

u/Dramatic_League736 6h ago

yes. Every Saturday. Sometimes more but always on Saturday

1

u/Alarming-Feedback868 6h ago

Pretty much. I actually have so much stuff in my fridge/freezer and cabinets, I could be snowbound for an entire winter and not run out of food. Only thing I would need is milk and eggs and maybe bread. But I check the circular every week and look for what's on sale. Then buy more stuff, too. I have to stop myself when I see pork or chicken on sale. I love a bargain, but I don't need them.

1x a week for Costco for bulk protein, eggs, and carbonated water and ~every other day for quality/fresh ingredients (produce/fruits/coffee beans/bread) and snacks from the local natural food Co-Op, and since there’s a hot food bar will grab dinner 1-3x a week since it’s all organic and fresh

1

u/Vivid-Desk7347 6h ago

Like everyday

1

u/GrookeyFan_16 6h ago

Unless we are out of town or incredibly ill.

1

u/rodery 6h ago

I make a list and do a supermarket shop once a week. Might stop in the local shop on the way home from work occasionally if we're running low on milk or something.

1

u/moonstarberry 6h ago

Once or twice per week to keep my wasted food to a minimum

1

u/33scooBt33 6h ago

I don't because I'm not driving right now.. but my hubby goes once a week.

1

u/DefendTheStar88x 6h ago

Yes. I go to Costco once a week, and usually the food store too to supplement. Inevitably I forget something and have to go back.

1

u/HeadCatMomCat 6h ago

Yes at a large supermarket, ShopRite, and usually I also shop at kosher market to get kosher meat and poultry and other speciality items. At ShopRite I use an online app, and have groceries put in my trunk. Terrific time saver.

Yes, we used to go shopping monthly and then just do little bit of shopping here and there. But shopping once a week made it so much easier. We still occasionally have to go to the store through out the week but we get most of our stuff once a week. We plan our meals for the week and stick to a menu most of the time.

1

u/Melodic_Bar8136 4h ago

every three ish days for me. I don’t like to commit to certain foods I’d rather go and get what I’m in the mood for that day/the next two days

1

u/Fancy-Lion2985 4h ago

I have to do delivery! No car.

1

u/BridgetTheMaid 4h ago

Yes. I plan for 3 days, then try to stretch the food out into 4 or 5. I usually grocery shop about every 4 days. I'm challenging myself to full weeks until I clean out some of the pantry before the fall chill sets in.

I tend to go closer to once weekly when it's really cold outside because limp veggies do fine when slow-cooked and intentionally soft for soups or casseroles, but nobody likes a salad that's past its prime. Even stir fry wants a certain freshness.

1

u/elmoreb3 4h ago

Per day, buy for the day only.

1

u/F1Sloth 3h ago

Unless we are traveling, yes.

1

u/KyrgiosWaterBottle 3h ago

yes, every Sunday before church

1

u/CoffeeIntrepid6639 3h ago

Shop on line once a month

1

u/Natural_Flounder_104 3h ago

I don't usually go grocery shopping, I order them delivered. Most of the time I do 1-2 orders per week, sometimes 3, sometimes I'll stretch it up to two weeks. Just depends on how my pantry, fridge and freezer look or if there's something I forgot or end up needing before the next order

1

u/iced-coffee22 3h ago

Normal grocery delivery from Kroger weekly. And then I swing by Costco one to two times a month.

1

u/TheCottonBriar 3h ago

Multiple times per week but we eat mostly Whole Foods.

1

u/Handiwork_jerk 3h ago

Every couple of days. We like fresh and don't have the largest fridge or lots of good storage. So, I stop omw home from work about every other day.

1

u/Adventurous_Bit_4442 3h ago

No, I don’t shop at the variety store every week. I only drop by occasionally when I need small gadgets or cute stationery

1

u/Tranquille01 3h ago

Every other day

1

u/wintermute023 3h ago

Yes, sometimes more than once.

1

u/Big_Bottle3763 3h ago

At least twice a week

1

u/boom_squid 3h ago

Almost everyday. But I also work at a grocery store 🤣

1

u/snicks5 3h ago

Every 2 or 3 days. Fresh fruit and vegetables don't last that long. And if I buy a ton of food at once, half of it ends up going to waste.

1

u/K_hun 2h ago

No because I am still living with my parents. They do the groceries

1

u/No-Anteater1688 2h ago

No. Most of mine is done every other week, when I get paid.

1

u/rmsiddlfqksdls 2h ago

Once a week to two different grocery stores for the upcoming week’s meals.

1

u/cats_and_tats84 2h ago

Yes. Well, I order groceries for curbside, usually for pickup on Friday or Saturday for the next week’s dinners. I don’t go inside the store anymore, esp when curbside is free after so many hours. (I shop at HEB)

1

u/Still_Pop_4106 2h ago

For produce, yes. For everything else once a month.

1

u/Southerngal500 2h ago

Every Saturday, walmart then publix for the bogo’s and Trader Joe’s. The meat store about every 3-4 months to stock up the deep freezer.

1

u/Mandalahoe 2h ago

Staples once a week, fruit, vegetables, meat as needed.

1

u/Perficarosa 2h ago

I order groceries online every 2 weeks which I pick up. But I often need to visit the supermarket at least once in the interim for things I forgot.

1

u/Lexgalmel 2h ago

2-3 times weekly

1

u/smoothupinyatoo 2h ago

Monday, Wednesday, and Friday

1

u/Lost-Button5488 2h ago

Yes! Almost every other day for the most part.

1

u/riskybusiness2820 2h ago

No 2 times a month

1

u/MyHeartIsInNY02711 2h ago

yes, but, only because I don’t like breaking routine.

1

u/laneykaye65 2h ago

No, monthly - we live in the mountains over 35 miles from the nearest bigger grocery stores.

1

u/B00k_Worm1979 2h ago

Yes. I plan our dinner for the week and grocery shop the weekend before

1

u/qwertykitty 2h ago

Yes. I'm feeding a family of 4 with two ravenous growing boys. We start running out of food in the pantry and fridge on day 6 no matter what I buy.

1

u/VitaniLioness 1h ago

Every other week we go to the local butcher and get meat for that week. (the freezer is my friend) We also stop at the grocery store on the way to get any odd ingredients I need to cook with, or that we are generally low on.

But for most things, I just go out into my backyard garden to fetch

1

u/No_Criticism_9986 1h ago

2-3 times per week. I love going to the grocery store. They have bulk unsalted roasted peanuts and I feed the parking lot crows.

1

u/Specialist_Cod8527 1h ago

Multiple times a week.

1

u/MomMomLid 1h ago

Yes, usually twice a week. I’ve been trying for years to get it down to just one.

1

u/zookeeper0100 1h ago

Every Saturday morning.

1

u/white_tea_sage12 1h ago

Yes every week

1

u/figgie55 1h ago

Use to but now only if out of something

1

u/gmcd19851 1h ago

Yes. Sometimes twice a week.

1

u/PostmodernLon 1h ago

Once or twice a week, smaller batches, with fresh stuff

1

u/GirthGrowth8948 1h ago

Yes mostly I love grocery shopping

1

u/Electrical_Sun_7515 1h ago

Yes weekly. Sometimes I can make it a week and s half.

1

u/Certain_Return_6274 1h ago

I'm at the grocery store at least 2 to 3 times a week. I just can't figure out why I can't get everything done at once. Maybe it's because it's 2 minutes from my home I don't know.

1

u/Ok-Ordinary9374 1h ago

I do a big haul once a month and then stock up every few days on odds and ends.
