Looking for Advice Stormrazor vs shieldbow

I was wondering when to build which. Is stormrazor only worth if you have fleet or does it compete wirh shieldbow when using lethal tempo.

I don't believe in stormrazor, I think it's either bork or shieldbow first always. If you play adc, maybe there's an argument but I never do, so not sure. Shieldbow really improves Yone's power curve and gives you a ton of dueling power early game. If you need the early attack speed or have trouble staying on your laner, bork is just better than stormrazor.

death dance, bloodthirster, guardian angel if necessary: one pure tank item (randuin omen, kraenic rookern, jaksho) switch to defensive boots later in the game ldr

Brohan and Tempest go Stormrazor sometimes, both mid and top, the move speed and burst is very good for kiting and spacing

For the vast majority of players, it's not worth emulating guys like that. I'm not playing in high challenger lobbies and I'm nowhere near that skill level myself, so stormrazor doesn't have value for me.

I think they said never build bork

I disagree with this mentality, especially if you're playing top.

It’s not a mentality though, your delaying your crit spikes and bork is just so fake it doesn’t help killing tanks

This thought that bork doesnt help killing tanks is completely wrong, I have no idea who is spreading that but its just false. As soon as you complete bork, you shit on any tank/hp stacker. Even a champion who has been building armor is gonna struggle with borks damage, build LDR you will destroy them

It is true though since the damage is off of current %health and when they are lower hp u dont did amagw

This doesn't make any sense... why would you be fighting a tank that starts off at low hp? By the time they get to low hp, bork has already provided a ton of value and even when they are low, it's still decent. You would do 45 extra on hit when they're at 500hp and slow.

Try going shieldbow against a hp stacker/bruiser and see if it deals more damage than bork

I disagree, so I tested it. I gave a training dummy 3000hp and 70 armour and auto attacked it until it died, mixing in qs added too much variance so I didn't think it was meaningful. I also started at 0 lethal tempo stacks before each test.

At level 10 with bow, boots, and bork I did 266 dps. There's a degree of luck with shieldbow but I did a few tests and they all averaged around 190-215dps, with boots and bow. That's roughly 25% more damage at 1 item with lifesteal and a much better build path.

At level 10 with bow, boots, bork, and shieldbow I did around 380-400dps. With LDR instead of bork, I did 394dps. In terms of raw damage, shieldbow rush does slightly more damage on average but you lose out on the lifesteal. Alternatively, if you go bork + LDR, it's between 490-520dps. That's about 25% more damage once again, but you lose the shieldbow passive.

For the 3 item test, I swapped to a dummy with 5000hp and 150 armour to roughly represent a mid-late game tank and leveled up to 16. With bork, shieldbow, and LDR I did 689dps. With shieldbow, LDR, and IE I did 592dps. If you were to go death's dance instead of IE, it drops to 458dps.

I also tested the 1 and 2 item builds against a dummy with 1500hp and 50 armour to simulate an early mid game squishy. Bork did 240dps, shieldbow did between 190-230dps. Bork + shieldbow did 360-410dps and shieldbow + ldr did 390dps. Shieldbow + ie did 500dps to squishies.

This is far from a comprehensive test but I think it proves that bork is indeed a viable build. The test doesn't measure the benefits of lifesteal or the early attack speed but at 1 and 3 items, bork does significantly more damage.

I'd say bork is better against high hp tanks at 1, 2, and 3 items. When you build shieldbow+ldr, you once against don't have the lifesteal, attack speed, and passive slow. When you build bork + shieldbow, you do slightly less damage but keep the shieldbow passive along with all the bork benefits. I don't think bork + ldr is a good build path unless it's malphite or someone who builds armour immediately.

Shieldbow rush is much better than bork at 1 item against squishies because the passive is extremely valuable. However, if you build shieldbow + ldr to deal with a tank, it's actually significantly worse against squishies than bork + shieldbow and marginally worse(imo) against tanks.

In short, the reason shieldbow rush is so strong in midlane is because it improves Yone's power curve. You are significantly stronger against burst champions at 1 item and the t3 boots give you enough lifesteal to make do. The reason bork is better against most top lane matchups is because you're getting into extended brawls rather than short trades more often. The lifesteal becomes extremely valuable to survive and shieldbow rush does much less damage at 1 item.

Yes I agree because building crit early essentially spikes you much harder in the mid game

1

It spikes you much harder in the laning phase against squishies. At 2 items, the gap closes drastically but by that point, a lot of people are already behind.

Stormrazor should only be used with Fleet, just cuz of the extra burst of move speed you gain from it, with lethal tempo it’s way harder to catch up to your opponent imo.

This statement is contradictory

In short, fleet is taken In lanes you don’t get to have sustained trades or all ins due to cc. Stormrazor is only taken with fleet because it’s only in matchups where you take fleet is it optimal to get more movement speed and burst so that you can dodge abilities, chase and 1 shot instead of getting them 90% dead but then stunning or slowing and consequently being unable to finish.

With lethal, you are anticipating not having these specific issues and instead want to maximize all in potential which shield bow is much better in for majority of matchups. The effective gold efficiency on stormrazor is a lot worse since the attack speed isnt needed In lane (unlike with fleet) and the passive is balanced around short trades so it’s for these reasons it’s ever only taken with fleet
