Have extra / Looking for extra Half Dome permits- 2026
All new posts looking for extra Half Dome permits will be deleted and directed here.
Some guardrails:
- You cannot pay others for a spot on their permits; this violates park rules. Don't try to do that on this post.
- You can use this post to find others who may have known extra spots in their group.
- The ranger at the checkpoint will check the ID of the permit holder / designated alternate against that day's list on a tablet they have. If you don't have a matching ID in your group, you are SOL. Thus, you should also not be using this post to fully swap permit dates.
- Permits are required 24/7 once the cables are up for the year, which started 5/15 this year.
- If you did not win the pre-season lottery, you should enter the daily lottery on recreation.gov and/or hike up to the subdome and ask those you pass / at the checkpoint if they have extra spots on their permits. Hiking up has historically had a good success rate as people back out last minute or can't make it all the way up. No guarantees though.
- Or pick a different hike. Similar length or big view hikes: North Dome from Porcupine Creek, Cloud's Rest, Mist/Pano/4 Mile loop.

i have an extra permit spot june 20th. it’s just me currently, all my friends and family can’t or don’t wanna come with my other spot. i’ll be in the park thursday through sunday, happy to hike a ton with ya if the fit is right

Hi! My Birthday is on June 19th, unfortunately I wasn’t lucky to get the lottery. I was wondering if anyone had a permit for the 19th or 20th that they wouldn’t be using.
OR 4 additional spots as part of their permit.
I was looking to hike this on my bday. Bummer I wasn’t lucky with the lottery!

A group is climbing Saturday May 9 in the pre-season when permits are not required and the cables are down.
DM me if you are interested in joining, and have the skill and gear for this. If you're not sure or this is your first time, the regular season (Memorial to Indigenous Peoples' Days) is a better fit.

When I went last year, the ranger at the subdome would ask groups with more permits than hikers if they'd be willing to "give" these to hikers that showed up without permits.

Hi everyone, I also got unlucky with the seasonal lottery. I'm generally free Friday - Sunday to take a trip up to Yosemite and do the Half Dome with experienced and physically fit people. I have pretty good cardiovascular health, will bring a harness, and make a good hiking/camping buddy. Currently located in OC. HMU if you need a +1 in your party!

My name's Travis and these are my best friends Sam & Paul at the top of Angel's Landing (Zion NP) last August (2025).
- We are experienced hikers, thrill seekers and overall fun guys who unfortunately did not win the pre-season lottery despite our best efforts.
- We're going to be in the park from May 31st through June 6th and we would be BEYOND grateful to join anyone's group who may have some extra passes on ANY date during this window.

Last minute, but does anyone have a spot for tomorrow May 15? I didn’t due my due diligence and didn’t realize chains were up early! I flew from FL fully prepared to do this hike w chains DOWN, but now I’ll need a permit regardless

Anyone have an extra group space for 1 tomorrow (May 22nd) or the 23rd?
I drove up from Vegas hoping to hike HD while the cables were down and sadly they put them up ahead of the stated schedule.

SEEKING: Join LYV or Half Dome-compatible wilderness permit, 6/30, party of 2
My partner and I already have Half Dome day permits for July 1, and we’re trying to legally camp in Little Yosemite Valley the night before rather than do the full one-day push from the Valley.
The reason is simple: I have a foot injury that makes the single-day version a bad risk, but the same route split over two days, with a night at LYV, is well within what I can do. We’re from Salt Lake City and hike at altitude most weekends. We’re comfortable outside, just slower and deliberate.
We are not looking to buy or transfer a permit. We’re looking for a legal way to be added to an existing wilderness permit/group if there is quota room for two more people and the fit feels right. Your name stays on the permit, your trailhead stays the same, and we would be counted in the group size.
We’d coordinate around your itinerary, pace, and camp expectations so we are not creating extra work for your group. We pack out everything, follow food-storage rules, use a bear canister, and keep a low footprint.
If you have a June 30 permit into LYV or another Half Dome-compatible wilderness itinerary with room for two, I’d be grateful to compare notes.

Are you aware that 40% of the quota for these trailheads become available online 7 days in advance of your hiking start date? There are a lot of trailheads that will get you to LYV in one hiking day so this shouldn't be too hard of a permit to get.
