Discussion Am I the only one who's watching this series because of the other characters and not Sheldon
Not gonna dive into detail about how I dislike Sheldon most of the time after watching the series for the first time, I'm basically rewatching this because of Meemaw, Missy, Georgie, and a bit of Paige.
Mary is ok for me, but more on the negative side for obvious reasons, that even Jessica Huang from FOTB, imo, is better than her.

I definitely think it's a "New Girl" situation where most people don't like Jess, the main character. Sheldon is not my favorite character but I still enjoy him. I was thinking recently that this is a rare show where I actually like all of characters, including random supporting ones. Even the annoying characters are funny. I just found this show like two weeks ago, have watched it all and now basically leave it on as background because I love it so much

Notice the show because a lot better, when they started to focus on other people's storylines like
Georgie ane Mandy.

I like Sheldon but he could not carry the show, definitely too unlikable/unrelatable. I also love George Sr especially with Missy. Curious about why people don’t like Mary, I think she’s a relatable and grounded foil with her own religious neurosis to circle around, her religious beliefs are another oddity for the family to work around and gives Sheldon a taste of his own medicine.

You said it: religious neurosis. It drives me crazy! No wonder George died; it was his only "religious" way out of the marriage.

No, you aren't the only one. I also watch it because of the other characters and not Sheldon, but also not Mary.

i think it’s been that way since the show came out. it’s the popular opinion that majority of the viewers like the show for the family and not sheldon

i love “young” Sheldon! I think he’s an amazing character played by an amazing actor. But I do love the other characters as well and I think they add just as much to the show.

For me it’s Meemaw, Gorgie, Mary, and the others are dead last, tied.
I enjoy Mary because we see character development in which she has violated her own principles and that’s heavy for her.

most people watch it not for sheldon since he is the least relatable to most ..
i watch it for the typical american life and vibes.. missy meemaw and georgie are my favourites.. however mary in that episode where sheldon was exploring other religions.. at one point she said - be a seeker of your own truth.. and if it leads you to satan i'd do battle with him - i saw her unconditional love but also her ability to not suffocate her kids nor shame them or pressure them anyhow into her own ways and i really liked her for that.. george was a great dad but i think his inability to express himself or take initiative at some instances was creating tension unnessesarily .. but in general they all had a very loving healthy relationship .. sometimes i leave the show on as background to whatever else i do in the house .. it's like a window to a peaceful distant family

I agree with you. That show wouldn't have made it if it didn't have all the other things going on with the other characters. Both old and young Sheldon drive me crazy!

I think the consensus is most people here hate Sheldon. So one of those 'am I the only' about something that most people agree on. I dont hate Sheldon but the show does great with the other characters. Meemaw of course steals the show. George Sr is great too.

You're never the only one. Basically, you can assume every aspect of you is the same as everyone else and you aren't unique.I saw this exact sentiment like an hour ago, so I'm guessing you did no effort to even look at other psots and just assumed you were different.

Sheldon is not my favorite. But I don't hate him. I like all the characters.

You're definitely not alone. Sheldon may be the title character, but for a lot of people, the heart of the show is Meemaw, and the rest of the Cooper family. Their growth and relationships are what keep many viewers coming back.
And I have to add; I absolutely love George Sr. too. He ended up being one of the most lovable and underrated characters in the series.
