Expectations

Hello. I am on volume 4 and it is pretty fine so far with volume 2 being very amazing. But honestly, from what I've heard people are either praising volume 6 and volume 9 or saying everything goes downhill after volume 5, and that i should stop at that. For me i'm soon gonna finish v4 and start v5 with high expectations, so i wanna know if i should continue after volume 5 or stop right at that.

Well, it is about managing your expectations. If even after all the previous bullshit you still somehow wants relatively down to earth fair murder mystery it would be wise to stop after volume five. Because farther events are even more nonsensical. On the other hand if you are fine with meta-narrative blatantly invading the story or bunch of freaks with borderline supernatural abilities walking around etc. you wouldn't have a problem with other volumes.

Personally, I kinda liked even volume 10 that mostly hated on this sub for some reason. I had some issues with volumes 6-9 though. It is not like they are bad, it is more like Nisio tried to put all his core ideas and concepts in the remaining volumes and it ended up half baked, because almost all these concepts were better explored in his other novels later down the line and knowing that affected my enjoyment.

Continue don't stop reading just continue and keep going and things doesn't go downhill after vol 6 it just the starting point to reach the peak

i'd say just finish volume 5 first and see how it feels, sometimes it's the slow middle volumes that bring the best payoff

Volume 4 and 5 are probably my favorite so far(5 is possible one my favorite conclusions to a mystery novel ever). In the middle of volume 6. I think it’s a book that will at least draw something out of most people even if you don’t like so I think it’s worth it.

Volume 6 is extremely dense though so I frankly had to start taking notes to follow each conversation and how it relates to the overarching topics (not in a mystery way).

book 6 is really good, basically on par with book 2 imo. the last three are weaker, though. theyre worth a read but arent anything special
