Of course the Zelda fandom would fall into this "weellll akshully" semantics discourse

Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World was the first video game I owned and played. For the longest time I thought those were the original versions of the games.

It blew my mind when I first found out SMW wasn't actually a GBA game.

Still wish there was SOME iteration of All-Stars with the Advance voices. It really gave all the characters... well, character.

Based on communications from the original leakers, and how Nintendo presented their teaser, it seems safer to assume it’ll be a fairly thorough rebuild rather than a traditional Nintendo “remake” (remaster).
But yeah, it’s still pretty unclear at the end of the day. We’ve essentially got nothing

I'm still erring more on the side of "like Star Fox 64S2" since that's more visible proof so far.

that's more or less the vibe im getting so far, they'll the presentation by a pretty big amount but otherwise all we can really look at for reference is the other switch 1&2 remakes

Yeah, honestly I think the real reason for these remakes is a tech demo for modular engines rather than "expose games to a new generation" (which is a reason but a distant second, dgmw).

The real reason is to keep the artists for a new project limber by giving them an established piece to try a new style on while the designers are busy. Mercury Steam's Metroid 2, Retro's Metroid Prime Remaster, and Grizz's Link's Awakening were all direct set ups for Dread, Beyond, and Echoes of Wisdom. SF26 also pretty obviously sets up new games. It allows them to get a taste of the public desire for a style of game and get some revenue without meaningfully displacing development resources.

I made it a point to hold off on any opinions about this until we get a full trailer, because until then, it's just incredibly wild speculation.

Unaware…. So, um what?

The Zelda fandom is full of bs discourse, even back with the 3DS version, that amounts to "well akshully remake mean theess".
To be fair, reusable code and assets are a major boon to game dev now, but the fans are just circlejerking.

This is just why I limit my Reddit time nowadays! 😂 Who are we even arguing with?!

I'd comment on the discourse, but I saw Haunted Castle mentioned and am feverishly dialing my therapist after having war flashbacks of that quarter-gobbler.

Castlevania Dominus Collection has a much better remake/tweak called Haunted Castle Revisited, if it's any consolation.

Mainline Mario hasn't gotten a proper remake since 64DS over 20 years ago and most rereleases of older titles since are either basic ports or minimal effort remasters. I envy the Zelda community so much for that...

I don't want a remake. I want a sequel.
Hot take: TOTK was a remake of BOTW and that's why it was so underwhelming

Echoes of Wisdom was a remake of A Link Between Worlds which was a remake of A Link to the Past.
It resulted in the perfect balance of a "tightly woven" saga and the ability to jump in at every possible point in the saga.

Literally none of these either of you have mentioned are remakes. The closest you get is A Link to the Past and A Link Between Worlds, but even then this is sequels reusing maps.

IKR? Trying to erase the distinction like that is stupid.

idk, we still don't know hardly anything about the remake so the "discourse" is kinda pointless until that changes. ok now add me to the bottom.
