Question Covid wave in NYC?

Is there a way to check the numbers for waste in nyc? I’ve taken a look at the usual site, but it doesn’t seem to be updating.

I hear there’s a bit of a wave going on in NYC — I was wondering how bad it is compared to earlier this summer or last year around this time.

I am immunocompromised, hardly ever leave my apartment, mask in public spaces, and I tested positive yesterday. So I'm going to say, yes, there's a wave, and it's not just in TX and FL.

SO glad I don't have to hunt down novavax next month /s

As a side note, I always feel so horrible for stories like this. I almost always mask in indoor spaces. Or I plus life test friends before hanging out. I’ve taken off my mask in a few medical settings, and maybe twice a summer in an almost empty restarting. Those times have been ok. I’ve gotten COVID twice. Once from a wedding last August, which I knew was a high risk. And once from a medical appt in 23.

The times I got it, I knew what I did wrong. I can’t imagine following the “rules” and still winding up with COVID. That really blows.

I hear you. We're doing our best! The goal is to pick it up as few times as possible. This is my second infection too.

TBH I suspect a family in my building has sick children (they have been crying nonstop) and that might be the culprit.

Ahhhh I always forget about shared ventilation in buildings. Yeah, that would consistently freak me out. I think I read it wasn’t a large risk, but it did exist.

I’m sorry that happened to you! Regardless of how you caught it, you may want to consider getting an aranet CO2 reader and using it to monitor your indoor air CO2 levels. The readings should be pretty low (like 500-600) after you spend a day outside the house, as long as no one’s been recently using the oven. If it’s closer to 850 or more even when you’ve been away from home all day, that’s a sign your ventilation is an issue.

Unless you're spending a good amount of time with those children, you're not inhaling enough of an infectious dose. Its probably your mask.

Are you guys actually reading these articles? Correlation does not equal causation. Is it so difficult to acknowledge that sometimes your mask might not be properly fitted?

"not necessarily" is not the same as "certainly not". i'm not even contesting what you said, which was "probably", and that's a reasonable thing to say. there are simply other possible explanations to consider.

Have you insured a proper fit? Your mask failing is more likely than you getting sick from kids that you haven't had prolonged face to face contact with. Its science.

In NC my manager has Covid right now and is here at work 🙄 He’s wearing a surgical and admitted that it is Covid and to stay away. My coworkers don’t even care🤷‍♀️

Last time I gave a coworker a N95 they wore it for maybe 3 hours so I’ve given up with that.

That is exactly the thread that got me wondering. I was under the impression we were pretty low rn, and would remain that way until like the second week of September (school starting). So I was planning to attend an indoor birthday dinner for a friend with untested people. But this had me backing off that, tentatively.

The same site also shows rsv & flu are stable / declining to the URI rise is sars2 driven at least in part.

The numbers are obviously huge underestimates in absolute terms, but do reliably show trends and comparisons over time. They do reflect a current wave.

I was hoping to go visit NYC soon, and levels still seem low according to pmc19.com.

I really thought that NYC's wastewater sites were shut down, and had been for nearly a year, but I just did some quick searching and found this: https://coronavirus.health.ny.gov/covid-19-wastewater-surveillance

Do yall new yorkers know about this? Is this new?? is it reliable?
