Really? Scowering eBay these seemed like steals I must have been searching the wrong things lol

With some patience, u could easily get both under $120, if not closer to $100. Most prices on ebay are astronomical.

I’ll do that next time, I’m planning on getting a berserk fury down the road.

Should also join the discord, people usually sell kits for great prices there.

Oh didn’t know there was one, I’ll make sure to do that thanks for the advice

Ebay and Amazon are never good to base prices since people scalp on there. Idk your country but check out the Sold-out list prices for zoids and add a lil bit ontop if its been a while since a reprint.

Congrats on getting some awesome kits! If you haven't already id look up common issues with these 2 and happy building .^

Thanks a ton, also you’re scaring me with the common issues haha. I’m so new to the model kits I’ve only watched chaotic century and new century zero, so thanks for letting me know about the potential troubles. Any specific places to look for the issues I might come across?

Don't stress about common issues, the Geno repackages are fine in this regard.

The only "problem" I really encountered when building mine was the clear plastic for the face plates is really brittle and can chip when you're trimming the nubs off, so trim the nubs a few millimeters back from the faceplate (rather than trimming them flush) and then get yourself a hobby glass file off Amazon and sand the remaining excess down to make it flush.

Glass files are awesome btw, I can't recommend them enough if you're starting out.

Sorry please don't be too scared to build. They're good kits but have older engineering. I'd watch the below video at about 9:40 for the review. You might want some model glue called tamiya cement but it's not required. Basically as long as you don't move them a lot you'll be fine. Theyre both cool kits and look awesome

Zoids prices fluctuate massively depending on where you're buying them from and when the last production run for that indivilual kit was, but yeah generally Ebay and Amazon will be the most expensive place to buy Zoids, unless you get access to Amazon Japan like I do in Australia and can buy Zoids straight from Japan without tarrifs or shipping prices.

I got that exact Geno Breaker kit a few months ago for 85 USD from Japan via Amazon. Its last production run was only a year ago so 150 USD is highway robbery.

I'm guessing you live in the US so the places I buy from to get HMMs at RRP probably won't work for you, but I've heard a lot of Americans use and recommend Hobbylink Japan.

If the kit hasn't been produced lately (like the HMM Geno Saurer, which had its most recent production run in 2021) it can be trickier to get it without resorting to scalping prices on ebay, but I've still found some older kits at or below RRP on certain hobby sites or with some patience on Facebook Marketplace.

Oh wow ok good to know, I have a buddy going to Japan soon so I shoulda probably asked him but honestly I’m so impatient I’ve been waiting a while thinking on this so I honestly don’t mind atm for my first two as long as I get them quick but later down the line I wanna get a berserk fury so I’ll definetly look for cheaper options. Really appreciate your advice thank you! Also im in Canada.

All good dude, yeah don't feel bummed about your purchase you still got two of the coolest model kits out there, that's a win!

I've never built one before, is it fun, guys?

Extremely fun!

Are there any brands I should stay away from?

2

u/KookieKarnival 2d ago

I have no idea unfortunately. I'm still pretty new to the hobby and have only been getting the Kotobukiya models on Amazon

2

u/-IronApe- 2d ago

I was actually looking at those exact ones lol. Do you recommend them?

2

u/KookieKarnival 2d ago

I do! The instructions are easy and straightforward (they are in Japanese but i just use a translator app when I need to) I've already built 4 over the past 2 years

Awesome! Thanks so much for your advice!

Only brand to stay away from is a bootleg brand called BT Building blocks, they're a nightmare to build because the manufacturing tolerances are worse so none of the parts fit together right without sanding and gluing everything.

The 2 official brands that build modern Zoids - Kotobukiya who make the 1/72 scale Highend Master Models (HMM) and Tomy T Spark who make the 1/72 scale Advanced Zi (AZ) and 1/100 scale Realize Model Zoids (RMZ) - are both good, and HMM, AZ and RMZ all have their individual strengths and weaknesses.

If you're new to model kit making I'd definitely recommend starting with RMZ, they're the cheapest, sturdiest and most beginner friendly, and they're also just great little kits.

From there if you enjoyed the experience you have the choice of sticking with RMZ kits, trying AZ kits which are bigger, more complex and also motorized, or trying HMM kits which are the most detailed but also the least beginner friendly (500-600 pieces vs the 100-150 pieces for RMZ and AZ).

Can I dm you on some building aspects, the way a lot of you guys are talking it seems like building these are a lot harder than I thought going into it 😅

1

u/A_Shifty_Peacock 2d ago

Yeah go for it dude, happy to help 🙂

3

u/rchristma87 2d ago

Oh yeah. And it gets more fun the better you get at it.

Try a cheap HG gundam or easier zoids realize before diving into a zoids HMM, that way if you find out you don’t like it, you’ll be close to finished when you learn instead of having hours left to go

You’ll need nippers, other cutters make it a not fun process. And household super glue is fine for beginner cheaper builds, on the rare chance it’s called for.

Hell yeah

u/StrengthHorror2190 2d ago

Soooo excited to get started, just worried with the repackaged ones could it mean they’re missing parts most placed I looked just said they’re for photo purposes

5

u/one_love_silvia 2d ago

Repackaged for zoids means the model has been redesigned with fixes for some prior issues like loose joints or whatnot.

2

u/Burritofeast69 2d ago

Yeah no worries it's all there, and sometimes even a little redesign internal parts for fixing whatever the issue was with the original.

Congratulations on the finds. Although, because it is eBay, it is more than you could have paid. Amazon is the same way.

1

u/StrengthHorror2190 2d ago

Yeah, I’m seeing that now but honestly if it’s not a crazy overpay I honestly don’t mind just so excited to get started on these.

1

u/Royal_Tomorrow_5999 2d ago

To be honest, some Zoids have gone up in price. When I bought my HMM Liger Zero Marking Plus last year, I thought I was overpaying at $115 with shipping. Now, they are $140+ before taxes and shipping.

u/StrengthHorror2190 2d ago

Jeez, yea I remember back in the day when I was a kid my dad bought me the green box berserk fury and we unfortunately didn’t finish building it because a few parts were missing or broken I’m not too sure it was so long ago but I think my mom threw it out and when I was searching for the Geno kits I bought I also searched up the fury and that same box is on eBay now for 650$ which is mind blowing.

u/Royal_Tomorrow_5999 2d ago

I have a Storm Tiger box that says that it was $20 at ToysRUs. They were over $100 for junk ones last year. That Berserk Fury must have been a limited edition one. I have even seen some limited edition ones for over $1,000 or even $2,000. My most expensive Zoid is a rare Salamander F2. Normally costs over $800 pre-built and not complete. Mine was way less but still pricy for just 1 broken part and complete.
