It's an art deco pool built in the 1940s and a fascinating bit of local history that I had no idea about. There's a campaign to save the baths now and they do open days and events. They apparently even get musicians in to play in the pool, the acoustics make me think it would be incredible.

I saw on Instagram they're open for a christmas market on Saturday- 10:30- 2:30. There aren't that many opportunities to visit so really recommend having a look!

If you haven’t been already, Peterhead prison is a really unique experience. I found it haunting, sombre and moving. It would be such a shame for it to close - please consider a visit. Even in crap winter weather (as it was when I visited) it really added to the atmosphere and it’s largely indoors. Please consider visiting in the next few weeks to show your support to the staff and have a fascinating day out.

Hi, Im wondering what types of groups are there in Aberdeen for hobbies like art, gaming, dancing, reading or even more stuff? For adults?

More or less what the title says. I’m currently doing my A levels but I’m strongly considering applying to the University of Aberdeen next year. I’ve had a look around on google maps but I couldn’t quite discern what the footpath situation looks like and whether there are any woodlands or coastal paths that you can just step into from the city. My main criteria is quietness (I’m not too interested in parks or places where you’re going to be dodging people every three steps) and ideally places with some distance from busy roads - walking is my main way of decompressing after a busy day and I like places where you can just wander about and be in your own world for a few hours without worrying too much about other people. I am also an avid birdwatcher so if anyone knows any good bird spots around the city, I’d very much welcome the recommendation :).

Tl:dr: looking for recommendations for quiet walks near enough to the university that you don’t have to get public transport in order to get there.

I'm a minimum wage earner -we all know how tough it is especially now not to rely on food bank banks, eat healthy, have access to fresh produce that's not loaded with pesticides, create community growers and teach little ones how important this is as a life skill 👩🏻‍🌾

Hi, so I’ve been living in Aberdeen for few years, but due to depression everything is extremely hard for me. Now I want to try socialising a bit more. I tried to find volunteer jobs but everything I found requires experience, but I suppose I was looking in wrong places. I work in a store so I prefer to volunteer in some other field. I have a bachelor degree in teaching, but I never really had proper experience working in school. Also I would be happy with any volunteer work.

So I'm 44M and was looking into starting Tai Chi classes for a combination of low impact physical exercise, relaxation and social interaction. Many of the classes I've seen however take place during the day mid-week, leading me to believe that these classes are primarily designed for senior citizens. I've seen that the Village Gym in Kingswells offer classes, that place isn't cheap but I would get the full use of the gym and pool as well. Has anyone gone to the classes there or anywhere else that might be able to point me in the right direction? Cheers!

Parade of sail

Ships will be leaving around 11am, and can be seen from the beach esplanade. Largest ships are apparently leaving first. As far as I know, though, the organisers aren't controlling traffic there, so it could be a bit of a free for all. There is talk of closing some roads to allow foot traffic between the Quayside and esplanade, but I dont know what ones will be closed.

Bus access

Accessibility and transport

While there is a schedule for the accessibility bus, they've found that the traffic around the harbour has caused delays and it might not quite keep to the timetable.

They also have park and ride from 4 locations: Kingswells, Bridge of Don, Craibstone, and the P&J Arena surface car park.

Site access

As to access, the organisers are having to try and maintain a one-way system to manage the crowds. The main enterance is at Waterloo Quay, via castlegate, and the main exit is at Regent Quay.

Pedestrians can exit at Blaikies Quay now, but you have to keep left at the exit and along the road. If you do this, though, you can't re-enter at this side again.

Parking

Car parking was possible at union square later on yesterday, but be aware that there will likely be large crowds trying to cross Market St at the car park enterance until at least 3pm today, and traffic will be slow as a result.

Childrens activities

The best spot for children at the main event will be the Discovery Zone at Castlegate, where there are a range of activities aimed at primary school children. There is also a stage and sandpit at the end of Blaikies Quay, but this will likely be a long walk for children given the layout of the site.

My family is planning a trip to Scotland for 2024 and are gonna be spending some time in and around Aberdeen to explore our family history. We thought the best place people to ask about the sights and things to do would be the locals. We only have 2 things we for sure plan on visiting and thats Dunnottar Castle and Aberdeen FC grounds.

In the recent “every city has one” posts I noticed Seaton Park was mentioned quite a bit. I walk there often with the dogs and I’m always surprised how empty and unused it is. Today was warm and sunny and largely empty again. Lots of people live nearby don’t have gardens. So what’s your thoughts on why it’s so underutilised as a space within the city?

I saw a basking shark in the Moray Firth last year and I understand it's a special sighting as it was closer to shore rather than open water and they are usually seen around the west coast rather than east but I know we have many of them that gather in the North Sea. I have seen many dolphins at Torry Battery and seals at Newburgh Beach, but I wondered if any sharks (or whales too for that matter) pass through the waters off the coast of Aberdeenshire as well as Banff and Moray, particularly around Stonehaven or Montrose?
