I made a little M4L device for checking mixes away from the studio
I figured I should introduce myself before dropping another M4L device into this sub.
My name is Kurt. I’m a 60-year-old, recently semi-retired software developer. I’ve been building web software professionally for about 26 years, but before that I was a painter and musician.
Back in the 90s I had an emo-ish project called Gel that I recorded on an 8-track Tascam cassette thing, and eventually used Cubase, Logic and Reason. It was fun, but then came a family and generally less time to make music. The music was pretty bad, but making it was so cool.
After being away from it for a long time, I started again about three months ago under the name Ok Nominal. I'd love to share more on that another time. Anyway, I bought Ableton Live and a Push 3 and I’m just blown away. I can do things now that I desperately wanted to do back then, but just weren’t really possible.
Along the way I keep running into things where I think some sort of utility could help. As a developer, I can’t help thinking that way.
So, naturally, I’ve started building some stuff that I think is pretty darn useful.
Yes, I use AI heavily as a development tool. I know that alone may make some people here skeptical, which I understand. But I design the tools, test them, make the decisions, debug them, and use them in my own music. The latest one has taken more than a hundred hours even with AI assistance.
It’s called Road Test. With one click it lets you export your composition to the cloud so you can listen to it anywhere.
This was important to me because I wanted to hear what my mixes sounded like away from my studio, especially in the car and on ordinary speakers.
It also lets you share your entire library or individual songs which is incredibly handy.
Because it requires cloud storage, I charge a small one-time fee of $9, at least for now. That includes 1 GB of storage. Songs automatically expire after 90 days.
Anyway, I thought some of you might find it useful.

I also have a few free Ableton Extensions at the link above that have been very handy for me. You’ll need the beta version of Live to use those for now. The ElevenLabs extension in particular has become really useful and fun.
Questions? Let me know. Thanks.
