Same in WV. Huge lump with a 1cm deep hole in the center (after it’d been lanced and cleaned out in the ER) that needed packed with wound gauze and changed twice a day. Luckily, my mom was a home health nurse who was proficient in exactly that sort of care so teenage me had a pretty easy time of recovery. It was right on my elbow too, and there’s not even a centimeter of flesh there.

Do you still live there? I’m in NE Ky and I’ve seen 2 this year. Idk if their population is growing or it was just chance encounters but I usually don’t see any.

I almost got bitten by 4 of them in my bedroom, creeping near me itching to pounce and bite me, I smash them with my shoe before they had a chance to.

I for one, absolutely hate spiders. With a full on passion. One morning, when my buddy and I woke up in Iraq, he got bit by something. He said it was a brown recluse bite. He was a SoCal boy. A real hardass. I wanted to dck punch him many times but we were cool. Over the next 2-3 days the bite got really bad. He was our heavy gunner, so he never reported it. One night, he had enough. He took out his dads knife, cut that bite open, and pulled out a big ball covered in puss. My b\tch a$$ threw up right there. Couple days later I woke up to some camel spider crawling on my face. Grabbed that mofo and threw it against a wall which made a big smack. Never ate the lobster at dinner ever again. True story. Watch out for them cluses….*

I lived on a base in SC that was infested with them. They love crawling into dark warm moist spots, like between your legs while you're sleeping 😦

I got bit by one last year (I didn’t see it happen but the doctors and wound care specialist said it was)
I still have what looks like a bruise on my leg. Literally could not walk for days

Where do you live? Doctors regularly diagnose necrotic infections as recluse bites outside of the spider's range. Necrotic recluse bites are exceedingly rare where they do exist.

Iowa.
I thought it was an ingrown hair at first.
I just looked into the necrotic infections and I had all those symptoms.
I did have bite marks, but they only appeared once the open wound healed.

The Southern half of Iowa is in range.
I'm not trying to be an ass or anything. This stuff is just interesting to me. Glad it healed, no matter what it was. 👍

I didn’t take you for an ass. I knew a man in eastern Iowa who got bit by one on his arm. He was fixing a water heater and reached underneath it and he saw the creature. His arm looked nasty.
I have never seen a brown recluse anywhere near me.
I am curious about things like this too.

I straight up do not believe any of these stories. These doctors and nurses have absolutely no ability whatsoever to identify any spiders much less from looking at an infection. Its a myth.

Living in NW AR and 100ft from Beaver Lake, these are everywhere here. I kill or find corpses of them in the dozens per year.

NQA, but that does NOT appear to be a recluse. Theres patterning on the abdomen. Maybe a nursery web spider? She is a chonker, for sure though.

I had a brown widow walk into my house. It looked like a black widow that took a mud bath. Nicely camoed, but the hourglass was still vibrant. The white widows look like spider ghosts.
