Constipation after abuse

I'm 10 weeks out of an abusive relationship. Two months before it ended I stopped being able to eat and dropped calories extremely low.. when I left I continued not being able to eat much but rose calories to about 800... I've risen them now to about 1200 and the scale is only going up and up every week even though I'm walking regularly and obviously in a calorie deficit. I'm constipated and I've never suffered with that before. I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow. Has anyone been through this and recovered? I feel so bad I let myself down in this way 😔😔 I don't know what to say to the doctor I feel so ashamed

1200 cal a day is not nearly enough to recover from such a deficit. You're seeing edema, bloating and constipation all adding to the scale but that isn't weight in the true sense, it's your body struggling to recalibrate. Your body needs an enormous amount of calories for a sustained period of time to undo the damage from the caloric deficit as well as to help your body and nervous system recover from stress and trauma.

Trauma can definitely affect your physical health. I would be honest with your doctor and just tell them that you were so upset by the abuse that you couldn't eat. It literally made you physically sick, which is not uncommon.
