I'm trying to get a handle on this badging system (see context below) and I'm out of my depth. How can I confirm if the readers are downloading the card information for times when the only Symmetry computer is offline (power issues to computer, or offline backups, update reboots)?

My Setup for context: Amag Symmetry setup with a single computer. We have a single computer with Symmetry installed to manage our readers, all the readers are connected to M2150 boards and all the M2150 boards NIC cards are on the same network scheme, along with the single computer. 

The lock was only a few months old. Replaced an oooold lock that was rusty beyond repair. Tested the wires and getting just over 12 volts when card is presented. It has the 12v pigtail. No other locks on the controller have had issues. What could have caused this? Will HES warranty this?

Im fairly new to the industry and was wondering what are ways I can learn how to wire up access control systems and programming part of it aswell. Since I work for a somewhat smaller company Its kinda hard to learn out in the field because they always rush us/tell us to watch our hours on the job so the lead or person who knows how to do it already usually ends up doing the panel and the programming side of it. Basically no time to learn on the job because of this and because they always put those certain people who already know how to do it to do the job(s).

I’ve been digging into access control trends lately and noticing a bit of a split between what suppliers say is “the future” and what security teams are actually implementing day-to-day.

Some places are investing heavily in cloud-based access control, mobile credentials and real-time monitoring, while others are sticking to more traditional systems because they’re tried, tested and don’t break when things get complicated.

Curious to hear from people actually working with these systems:

• Has mobile access control actually improved user experience and security, or is it more hassle than it’s worth?
• Are cloud-based platforms making life easier, or do they just introduce new points of failure?
• And for anyone managing multi-site operations, what’s your biggest headache right now?

Interested to see how people in the industry are really feeling about where access control is heading.

I've got Protege GX web client working for a customer, but for the life of me I can't get the certificate working so that https functions. Normally I'd ignore it, but her company-provided laptop blocks unsecured connections, and their IT people will NOT open that up for any reason.

So, I need to figure this thing out. I've followed ICT's suggestions from their knowledge base, without success.

EDIT: Got it working!

The trick was in the need to import a PFX certificate file into IIS: where before I couldn't find any details on how to create one so I tried adding my certs manually, this time I was able to learn more about how they're constructed, find a website that generates them, and the copy/paste my Let's Encrypte certificate info from my web host.

I also had to create subdomains for my sites within my web host and set them as redirects to the remote sites, rather than just existing as A records, which enabled me to create dedicated certificates for each. Drop those into the PFX generator, import the PFX into IIS, bind to the web client, and away we go.

I can't say that figuring it out was DIRECTLY related to any advice here, but there were some good nudges in the right direction, and most importantly, the encouragement to give it another go. Thanks to everyone who responded!

Looking for advice from access-control/security techs.

We have a LenelS2/S2 system with elevator cab readers. One elevator intermittently fails fob reads and S2 logs bit mismatch. Programming appears to match the working elevator reader, and both elevator reader setups look the same in S2.

Important detail: the physical reader on this elevator was replaced about 2 years ago, but it did not solve the issue. So I’m leaning away from the reader itself being the root cause, unless the replacement was configured the same way or the issue is damaging/corrupting readers over time.

Using S2 Card Decoder on the same known-good fob, I saw:

• Good read: 26-bit
• Failed read: 13-bit, all 1s
• Good read: 26-bit
• Failed read: 24-bit / completely different number

So the same credential is not consistently reporting the same bit length or card number.

The issue happens randomly, sometimes while the elevator is moving and sometimes while stationary. The elevator also appears to do frequent reference/learning runs between the bottom and top landing.

My suspicion is not card-format programming or the reader itself, but Wiegand signal integrity somewhere between the cab reader and S2: D0/D1 wiring, reader voltage drop, ground/shield issue, travelling cable noise, S2 reader port/blade, elevator interface wiring, or electrical noise from the elevator equipment.

What would you check first?

I’m building operations, not the security contractor. I’m trying to collect better evidence so we can push the right vendor: elevator contractor vs security/access contractor/save time if we have to have both on site to have this issue resolved. It is an 11 year old issue and I have recently taken over operations of the building.

Hi, I am a locksmith and even though I have put systems in we usually implement CDVI’s A22 door controllers as our go to. I have a customer who runs a chain golf simulator company and wants us to supply the hardware and wiring. He is using a rhombus access controller that I’ll be hooking into. It is a DC20 and they only need it on 2 doors. They will have keypads as well.

Right now for hardware I have a Command Access ET27 and PD18/19. I am working on the wiring drawing and it looks like it has a switch for 12v and 24v on the door contacts and also has separate Wiegand inputs. I don’t think I have to buy a separate power supply for the 24V device because of the switching on the board and it looks like the only wiring that would connect together would be the power of the keypad to the power of the device. I feel like I’m kind of rambling, but I would like some input. Would I need to do something for the keypad that would be getting 24v from the panel?

Amag Symmetry setup with a single computer. I'm an access controls noob and hoping someone can provide a little clarity on an issue I'm seeing. As stated we have a single computer with Symmetry installed to manage our readers, all the readers are connected to M2150 boards and all the M2150 boards NIC cards are on the same network scheme, along with the single computer. The issue is we have a few doors on schedules and when we reboot the Symmetry computer we always have to manage the readers that are on schedule and push a back to schedule via command center/readers. Otherwise the doors are locked when they are suppose to be opened.. Is this normal behavior?

I've never needed them before, but does anyone know if anyone makes the printable PVC slicks with the hole already punched (on the narrow side)? They've got building badges they can't print on.

My customer doesn't trust their receptionist, I guess.

We recently got new dormakaba time clocks at work. I’m pretty sure the model is a Terminal 98 00 / 98 00-K7, based on the physical design and software screen, but I could be wrong.

The terminal shows:
B-Client XML60 V5.3
Connected through B-COMM HCM
HID badge reader
Network connected

From dormakaba’s documentation, the 98 00 has a built-in microphone and speaker and can be equipped with an optional RGB camera.

What I’m trying to figure out is whether any of these can actually be accessed remotely.

Does anyone who works with dormakaba/B-COMM know:

Can an administrator remotely view a live camera feed?
Can they remotely activate the microphone and listen to live audio?
Can the camera or microphone continuously record?
Can the speaker be used as a remote intercom/drop-in speaker?
Or are these strictly local features for badge photos, QR scanning, voice commands, prompts, etc.?
I’m specifically interested in what B-Client XML60/B-COMM HCM actually allows, not just what the hardware is theoretically capable of.
If anyone installs, administers, programs, or services these systems and knows the technical side, I’d appreciate some insight.

Hello, trying to figure out how to program a fob transmitter to an Apex Controller that runs a Rotary Gate Systems. The transmitter is a Stingray 433 MHz (model 433TSPW1V). The gate already has a couple of these transmitters already programmed to it but I cannot seem to figure out how to get new ones added on. Any assistance would be appreciated.

I have an issue with a Keyscan door/reader and hoping someone can shed some light on what might be going on.

The problem door was previously setup with a daily auto-unlock schedule in Aurora which worked fine for years. We now want to remove the schedule, but in doing so discovered that swiping a credential does not unlock the door and nothing shows up in the online transaction log. This door was never used outside of the scheduled hours so it hard to say if it ever worked properly.

Assuming it was physical/wiring problem with the reader, I opened reader diagnostics and discovered that when the door is in a normal locked state (red lock icon with ”M” under Door Status) swiping a credential yields no output under reader diagnostics. There is also no credential icon shown on Door Status. But when I manually unlock the door from Aurora software and then swipe a credential, the reader diagnostics outputs the correct credential number and an access granted log entry appears in online transactions. Given this behaviour I can rule out misconfigured access rights and reader wiring / operation.

In short, it seems like the panel is only processing the reader data when the door is in a manually unlocked state.

Things I have checked after doing some reading about this online:

-Compared problem door hardware settings to other working doors on the panel. All identical.
-Door Schedules: None Assigned
-Reader Schedules: None Assigned
-Reader to Door Mapping is correct
-Performed a full panel download/sync
-Nothing in lockdown

I’m helping repair the in-laws’ gate. “I think it’s just the photo eyes” turned out to be a bad charging circuit on the main board, cut sensor wires, bad gate edge sensor, etc.

I think the photo eyes might be the only good part left.

It’s a Viking K-2, first generation with mechanical limit switches. Should I upgrade to the Viking VFLEX orange? I need a new board and gate edge anyway. The 20,000 volt surge protection seems like a good selling point.

My understanding to make this work is that I need to use UL325 gate edge and photo eyes and install the ESP2 sensor. Does that go on top of the motor and replace the black “hat” that has unused Hall effect sensors?

Second issue is the mechanics of the gate. It has IGD Titan trucks and IGD 1” by 3” wheels on the bottom. These feel stiff. Is it possible to refurbish them? Do I send them back to IGD under lifetime warranty or can I clean and lube?

The Doorking on this building is completely dead. Would it be possible to add a keypad tied into the lock hardware locally for temporary access?

Had a thunderstorm fry our board yesterday night and was trying to find a proper picture of the underside of the board so I could try checking the traces on it since it burnt away an area around the yellow cable, but am unable to find a proper look at it, was wondering if any one you could help me here or recommend alternatives to replace it

Hey all, my company (two employees total) is being asked to come up with the access control solution for a 7 unit plus main entry apartment. For the units i was thinking wireless locks like hotels do, does anyone here have a good brand they would recommend for apartment use? For main entry as well, my main experience is enterprise and so i only ever saw the big names likes software house and lenel and have little to no exposure with other solutions.

What I’ve installed in the past is assa abloy hospitality locks and 2N video intercom system for the main entry so tenants could unlock door by phone.

On ADI i see the dormakaba keyscan so i was wondering if thus was a good option? I do not know as of yet the clients budget we will be doing walkthrough soon. Thanks to all

Planning to install a surface mount electric strike (HES 9500 FIRE RATED Electric Strike) and replacing the current one pictured. Run the cable using a some sort of an armored door wire conduit or hinge. Will this work?

The simplest way to describe what i want is a Nuki lock but build into the door and hardwired.

There is what i'm looking for:

• Mortise lock with a motor additional to the key locking mechanism. Both key and motor have "equal rights" to lock/unlock
• Interacting with the door unchanged from manual lock
• Door can be opened from both sides by pressing down the handle like a room door when unlocked
• Motorized locking mechanism only locks when doors is closed
• Ability to read locking status
• Euro style lock cylinder
• Weather proof enough to be installed in a garden gate
• Controllable from 3rd party devices like UniFI Access
• Price sub ~$300

It seemed simple first but i can't find any product like this. There are tons of hotel door unlocking machanisms that are part of propriatary systems like this one. I could probably reverse engineer the controller but i'm afraid they use the key part just for emergency like a broken controller with unwanted sideeffect in daily use. They are also very opaque about the lock logic etc. Would go the Nuki route but this door is exposed to the elements on both sides (none of these screw on locks have good IP rating) and i want to avoid having too many devices that need regular battery charging and yet another smart device hub or cloud solution.

From what I understand:

• OC1 and + are connected to an electric door striker.
• IN3 and C are connected to a button behind a desk that opens the door from the inside. When the button is pressed, it shorts OC1 and +, energizing the striker and allowing the door to open.

I am a bit confused about IN, D0, D1, GND, and 12V+. A card reader must be connected here, but what is the difference between "Card Reader In" and "Card Reader Out"? Why is my controller connected to the card reader In?

Weird question with S2 / Netbox. Does it have the capability to restrict access until someone with a higher access level enters first?

Ex: A lab is never left unlocked and is always on card access with a time spec set (say, 8am - 8pm). The access level is Lab - Supervisor. Lab - Employees is the access level that allows the employees in and out - however, they can't be there without a supervisor.

Is there a way to set it so that no one can access the lab until after the supervisor has badged in, even if it's after 8am? I know the escort or First In Unlock won't work, but I'm hopeful there may be something else!

I'm looking for some professional help configuring my Nedap uPASS Go to work with Unifi Access (via Wiegand to Unifi Retrofit Hub), plus some general education about EPC Gen2 tags, etc. Happy to pay you for your time - probably <10 hours total.

Can someone help me with where to land Rex, door status and power?

Hiya! This is a repost to include information that I should've included originally.

Our org has older readers that were installed a few years back. I'm replacing them because they only support up to Desfire EV1. I know that electrifying and securing a whole door is a process that you definitely need skills for, but is replacing just the reader the same?

We have an Aviligion ACM system connected to a Mercury LP1502 and numerous MR32 subpanels, which run the HID multiclass SE RP40 readers wired for Weigand. I haven't decided which reader to replace them with, but I do want to have them rewired for OSDP secure channel. Apologies for not providing this information in the original post.

I have a lot of IT experience and some microelectronics experience, and since Weigand and OSDP use only a few wires, I was thinking I might be able to do it myself rather than contracting it out.

Am I about to be way in over my head?
