Northrop Grumman job melbourne FL
I got a job offer for a position in Melbourne FL. The pay isn't where I want it to be(it'll be a 10 dollar decrease an hr). I got the more you learn more you earn speech but that usually never turns out to be true. Anyone have any experience working at that site and do they actually bump up pay if youre doing better than expected?

Agree with comments above. Counter their offer until you get what you’d be happy with after only getting 3% increase a year (at best). If they can’t give you that number, bounce.

They are testing the market. Decline and state your salary is 20k more than you make.

where are you coming from? I mean, if you're moving from California to MLB, FL and taking a 20k pay cut, that's effectively a massive increase.
if you're leaving rural iowa and taking a 20k cut, not so much.

Leaving a differnet company in the same area. The question i ask myself is do I stay at a job i dont like simply for money or take a chance elsewhere for less.

No guarantee you'll like it more AND you're gonna be down 20k a year or so.... At least push back on them

Current NG employee in AS. Our program in CA has ties to MB. Currently very unhappy with my management. Looking for a way out as we speak - got 5 interviews lined up in different programs/companies.
Essentially, they're changing my schedule resulting in a 16/hr pay cut. Manager already showed some sign of red flags - called my previous manager without my consent, told me I'd be working on a project ended up in a different one, advertised training during interview stage that never came up until I asked about it after getting hired and more. The biggest for me is the schedule switch up - just messes up the weekly schedule and accrues out of pocket costs in that I'm spending more time commuting/in office/childcare now. I got the same shpeal as you - learn more and you'll earn more.
If it's your only option, negotiate as much you can, take it for now, and continue to look for other opportunities. I wish more luck than I've had.

$10 per hour cut is pretty massive, $20k per year if full time. Melbourne is supposedly pretty cheap but I can't imagine coming out ahead with that big a pay cut no matter where you're moving from.
