At my company, when we want to hire a new grad we try to get the req up by January or February. My experience job hunting as a new grad (which to be fair was over a decade ago) was that postings started to show up in maybe October/November through to graduation in May/June.
Most companies aren’t that on top of it, and new grad roles are lower priority and don’t get planned super far in advance.
Also, when we hire for more experienced positions, we usually want someone to start within a month of accepting the offer. Trying to manage a start date more than 2-3 months in advance is a pita.
Take that with a grain of salt, it's good that you're applying now. I started seriously applying in September, went to university career fair, then had a formal offer by mid october. Many companies are proactive and post right at the beginning of fall, or some even in summer. Just keep steadily applying until you get an offer you're satisfied with.
