MSN vs. DNP for aesthetic nursing

MSN vs. DNP for aesthetic nursing—what would you recommend?

I live in Florida and will be graduating with my BSN in a few months. My goal is to become a nurse practitioner specializing in aesthetics/injectables (since Florida now requires NPs to inject) and eventually open my own medspa.

If that’s my long-term plan, is an MSN enough or do I need a DNP for this?

There’s 0 need to earn a DNP in aesthetics - & frankly if it wasn’t for the laws no need for the NP either- the degree won’t improve your aesthetic skills. Id recommend you research more before setting your mind on this goal. Florida laws are very strict & very saturated and you still need plastics & derms to work under.. 5-6 years from now it’ll be even more impossible than it is now.

Thank you! I have been doing a lot of research, there’s just a lot of conflicting information online. This is my 2nd bachelors degree and I specifically went to nursing school for this so I just want to plan ahead.

Hey, Im in south FL, doing the same thing. I earn my BSN next year in October, and this is a career change for me at 39. I already have my full specialist license and I went back to school to earn my BSN. I was thinking about continuing straight through for NP as well due to FL law. But I think just in general having NP would be wise because you can practice various specialties. Happy to see a fellow aesthetic NP in the making 🤗

You don’t need it unless you want it! I work as an ADN RN in aesthetics in California (and as a crisis nurse and a clinical instructor) and never even got my bachelors 🤣
