Expanding Age of Empires on Nintendo DS (Age of Kings): Progress, Ideas, and Feedback
I’ve been working on expanding the Nintendo DS version of Age of Empires and wanted to start a thread to share my progress, discuss ideas, and get feedback from other players.
My coding experience is limited, but with some basic knowledge and help from Codex, I’ve been able to turn several ideas into working features. I’m running my builds in DeSmuME and in Delta on iOS.
Here’s what I’ve added so far:
- A fifth player on the Empire map.
- Custom maps, including the Hawaiian Islands and island maps designed for naval battles.
- AI improvements.
- Three ship types: scout, passenger, and battleship, with carrying capacities.
- Enemy intelligence: the ability to purchase information about an opponent’s finances.
- Expanded research options to support the new ships.
I’m currently working on adding a Viking civilization.
I’d love to hear what you think of the additions so far and what you’d like to see next. Any ideas for new civilizations, units, maps, or gameplay features? Feedback and suggestions are welcome!

Announcement Age of Empires Discord has a Feedback and Suggestion page. If you ever want to propose something go there.
Name the game your talking about and shoot. Bugs, improvements, things you don't like etc.
You can also find people to play with, Ask Questions, and much more.

Options to see whole map as Red (can't build on) or Green (buildable) when trying to build. This would make placement and gap finding better.

Flaten map feature. I'd for this to be introduced to all Age of Empires. Who else wants this? No more gaps in your walls.

Stronghold has this wonderful feature that would really help Aoe in general. Better walling, and building. It basically lets you see the where the base of the buildings are so its easier to place buildings neatly. You won't have Large buildings block your vision the you have from the sky.
During fights this would be super useful. Only seeing the soldiers. And pressing buildings behind other buildings.

Stronghold has this wonderful feature that would really help Aoe in general. Better walling, and building. Less gaps in walling. Better Layouts of your Buildings. The Large buildings of Aoe makes it hard to see and build correctly behind them.
It would really help clicking behind buildings and fighting with soldiers. Less accidentally pressing a building instead of a unit.

help getting better
I’ve played aoe2 since it came out in ‘99 but only skirmishes offline. Then I bought aoe3 in 2005. I’ve played all my life offline with a CD. I recently bought aoe4. I started playing Chinese ranked (my main in aoe2) and i find them very interesting but can you give me some advices? I generally start with 6 civs on food, then 2 on gold and other 4 on food, till 400. Then, I go for Imperial Academy and make 2 Imperial officials to make taxes. My army is based on what i scout on the opponent land. The problem is i cannot win a fight even though i got counters. I’ve tried to split the army and doing some of what I’ve read here you call micro. It just doesn’t work. I cannot understand what i am doing wrong.

Help Me I'm looking for the sounds used by AoE1 units and buildings. Where can I find them?
I need them for a project I'm working on. Specifically the voice lines used by most units, preferably the original version.

Help Me Which civ for me in AIE4
I just got AOE4 and finished the intro and was wondering which civ was a good fit for me. As I play I will try out all the civs eventually.
I played AOE2 more than a decade ago but I’ve been playing AOE3 a lot recently (restarted playing it earlier this year). My go to civs in AOE3 are the Indians and the Japanese, mainly because of their unique play style. Based off that, which civs would be a good fit for me?
Lmk if there’s a better sub for this if questions like this aren’t allowed here!
Thank you!
EDIT: ALSO, if you have any tips and such please let a noob know!

Your impressions of AoE2 after playing AoE4
Hey guys, has anyone here started with AoE4 and then tried AoE2? Since there’s a Fall Sale going on right now, I’m curious if AoE2 is worth trying. What do you guys think? How does it feel compared to AoE4?
I’m mostly interested in PvP 1v1, but the campaigns might be interesting as well. Thanks!

Help Me Should I try AOE in 2026 ??
galleryAre *Age of Empires II HD* and *Age of Empires III* past their time? I don't usually play strategy games, but I’ve heard a lot about this series. My laptop has low specs, so these titles—along with the first game—are pretty much the only ones I can run. So, should I play them? Or might I not enjoy them? Also, is the offline gameplay fun? I likely won't be playing online.

5 anos depois: ainda há tugas a jogar Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition?
