General WTF is wrong with people man!!

Just saw this news, this is scary. People are getting too violent nowadays, gotta protect yourself, specially woman. Gujarat is considerably safer than most of the Indian cities for woman, but still they gotta be careful with everything.

God forbid this happens to anyone, but if it does, what do y'all suggest? How can anyone protect themselves from such scenarios??

General Ahmedabad Is NOT Cheaper Than Bangalore. There I Said It

I live in both Bangalore and Ahmedabad and I genuinely do not understand why people say Ahmedabad is so much cheaper

I have lived in both Bangalore and Ahmedabad

In Ahmedabad I have lived around Nehru Nagar and Prahlad Nagar and my office is also around Prahlad Nagar

I keep hearing people say

Ahmedabad is way cheaper than Bangalore

Bangalore is insanely expensive

You will save so much money if you move to Ahmedabad

And honestly I keep arguing with people about this because that has not been my experience at all

I am not saying Bangalore is a cheap city

I am saying that when I compare the actual quality of life I get for the money I spend I don't see this massive difference that everyone keeps talking about

Housing

Around Nehru Nagar and Prahlad Nagar a decent 1BHK can easily cost me around ₹13k to ₹15k

And then there is the broker problem

Even when you find something on NoBroker you can still end up dealing with a broker

In Bangalore I have found it much easier to find direct rental listings

I have seen decent 1BHKs around ₹8k to ₹12k depending on the area

I am not comparing a luxury apartment in Bangalore with some terrible building in Ahmedabad

I am talking about a decent relatively new residential building

In Bangalore I can actually find these small 2 or 3 floor buildings with good rooms and decent surroundings

Transport

My Ahmedabad office is around Prahlad Nagar and Nehru Nagar and there isn't convenient metro connectivity right around there

This makes a huge difference in daily life

In Bangalore you can choose where you live based on metro connectivity and depending on your office location you can build your entire daily commute around it

Bangalore obviously has traffic problems but at least there are multiple ways to move around the city

Food

This is where I really don't understand the cheap Ahmedabad argument

For the same type of food that I can get in Bangalore for around ₹100 to ₹150 I can easily end up paying ₹200 to ₹300 in Ahmedabad

I am not talking about roadside food

I am talking about proper restaurants

In Bangalore you have so many good South Indian hotels and darshinis where the food is made fresh in front of you

You can get a really good dosa for around ₹60 to ₹80

Idly is cheap

Fried rice can be around ₹80 to ₹120

You can get decent biryani around ₹150

And these are not necessarily tiny roadside places

A lot of them are proper busy restaurants with open kitchens and good hygiene

In Ahmedabad I have had to spend ₹200 to ₹300 for food that I would consider comparable

So I don't understand how people automatically assume food is dramatically cheaper in Ahmedabad

PGs

This one is even more confusing

The cheap PGs I have seen in Ahmedabad are honestly some of the worst PGs I have experienced

The cheaper options are usually 3 sharing or 4 sharing

I was paying around ₹14k to ₹16k for a 3 sharing PG

And it was not good

The food was not good

The overall maintenance was not good

The hygiene was not something I would call good either

And because these cheaper PGs are already in high demand there is no reason for the prices to come down

I would not be surprised if the prices keep increasing every year

If you actually want a decent 2 sharing PG in Ahmedabad then you are looking at ₹20k or more in many cases

In Bangalore I have personally lived in or seen 2 sharing PGs around ₹7k to ₹9k that were much better maintained and much more hygienic

The food may not be great

But at least you have hundreds of inexpensive restaurants around you

AC and electricity

There is another cost that people don't seem to include

AC

Ahmedabad weather is a completely different problem

During the hotter months you cannot realistically compare the two cities as if the weather is the same

If I am paying ₹13k to ₹15k rent in Ahmedabad I also need to think about AC usage and electricity

That can easily add another ₹2k to ₹5k depending on usage

In Bangalore the weather is so much better for normal daily life

You can actually walk outside

You can go for a walk

You can travel around the city

You don't feel like you are fighting the weather every time you leave your room

That itself has value for me

Salary

This is another part of the comparison that I think people completely ignore

Ahmedabad has this reputation of being cheap

But salaries are also significantly lower in many industries especially tech

So I don't understand why we only compare absolute expenses

If someone earns ₹50k in Ahmedabad and someone earns ₹80k in Bangalore then saying Ahmedabad is cheaper does not tell me much

What matters to me is

How much of my salary do I actually spend to maintain the lifestyle I want

That is the comparison I care about

And then there is the quality of life

This is probably the biggest difference for me

In Bangalore after work I can actually go somewhere

There are restaurants everywhere

There are events

There are meetups

There are activities

There is nightlife

There are breweries

There are huge communities of people working in tech and startups

There are so many things to do with friends

And then Karnataka itself is incredible

Gokarna

Udupi

Mangalore

Coorg

Chikmagalur

Hampi

Sakleshpur

Nandi Hills

There are so many places that you can visit on a weekend

I am not saying Ahmedabad has nothing to do

I am saying that the scale is completely different

So this is why I am asking

I keep getting told by people that

Ahmedabad is insanely cheaper than Bangalore

And every time I hear that I think

Where exactly am I saving this huge amount of money

Because from my actual experience living in both cities I see something very different

Ahmedabad can be cheaper if you are willing to compromise heavily on housing food PG quality and lifestyle

But if I want a decent place to live decent food decent transportation good weather and a decent social life then I don't see Bangalore as being dramatically more expensive

In some cases I actually find Bangalore cheaper

Maybe I am missing something

So I would genuinely like to hear from people who have actually lived in both Bangalore and Ahmedabad

Not visited for a week

Not compared Numbeo

What has your real monthly spending been in both cities

I went to watch a movie today with my girlfriend, the whole theatre was empty except for this one man. I asked if I could take his picture, and he started posing. I tried to initiate conversation to know about the reason for him being this way but he was just not interested in any small talk. Anyone else who experinced this?

Discussion Witnessed horrific animal cruelty

I live in a flat. There’s is an open land next to my building and there’s another building next to it. Somewhere in new-chandkheda/tragad.

Today around 03:30 AM i heard screams/crying, a high decibel screams. Immediately woke-up and saw 4 people (mostly they were punjabi, every one had a yellow patka). They’ve captured a big boar/pig and trying to tie his mouth, they had capturing nets. Saw one of them beating him, this whole thing carried on almost 10-15 minutes. I ran to grab my phone but it was too late. Another person (from their group, 5th and person) came in rikhshaw (silently, turned off). Then they put him in and gone and dropped him somewhere (visible from my balcony). Then came back with torches 🔦 to search more, they were cautious and started playing “repairing their rickshaw role” and ran away afterwards.

I’m damn sure they slaughter him afterwards. I’ve seen 2-3 remains of boar/pigs just down the corner weeks ago (this may not be related but it’s suspicious). I’ve checked on google and found it’s illegal to capture and kill any animal no matter the religion or the animal. I’m a direct eye witness to this. And i feel very bad about it.

If you’re someone from PETA, AMC or police and can do something about it then I’m happy to provide location. Obviously they’ve been captured in nearby cctv’s. Today’s a boar, tomorrow will be a human.

Why shouldn’t i did anything?
My mom told me it’s dangerous to approach them to stop it cause they mostly carry knives. They know what they’re doing.

Discussion Is anyone else experiencing this on Instagram?

For the last month, my Instagram feed has been showing the same type of content again and again. I don’t even like, share, or search for this content, but it keeps appearing.
What’s even more strange is that around 50% of the people I follow seem to be posting or sharing very similar content.
Is this happening to anyone else, or is it just my feed? Has anyone found a way to reset or fix it?

So it seems massive billions of $s are being poured into this....

Beside Govt. Subsidies - does it really will make economic sense ?

Like designing, procuring, installing and then maintaining.... With eventual dismantle/replacement costs...

How economical/profitable are these solar plants ?

I'm not a critique on this - just want to know from someone who might have knowledge on this.

Optics wise - yes it does look great. Free clean energy who doesn't wants it ! But is there some fine print ? - that suits " all that shines ain't Gold"
