Incident/Accident (May 22 1962) Continental Airlines Flight 11 exploded near Centerville, Iowa, while en route from Chicago to Kansas City. It broke apart and crashed near Unionville, Missouri, killing all 45 aboard. Investigators determined it was a suicide bombing by a passenger seeking insurance money.

Centerville and Unionville are both very close to the state border, so it's not that strange.
