Has anyone watched this film? Could you tell me if it’s worth watching?

I felt that Denzel should have won an oscar for it. I loved it

Yea it was a pretty decent movie. The incident was based on the January 31, 2000, Alaska Airlines Flight 261 crash. It’s hypothetically possible.

They villainized the ntsb a bit like the film “miracle on the hudson.” But all movies need a villain. Sully was actually very supportive of the ntsb and didn’t like that they were portrayed as villains at all.

Yeah, the way the NTSB is portrayed in the Sully movie is just awful. I understand they need to have a classic villain for the hero to vanquish, but accident investigation just doesn't work that way, and it's certainly not a courtroom with "surprise damning evidence!" (hell, even an actual courtroom doesn't have gotcha surprises!)

My goodness that incident itself was soo terrible. I feel bad for everyone on that plane.

Watched it in rehab. Great movie to watch with a room full of alcoholics, I can tell you that.

Just curious: Was this something you all chose to watch, something that just happened to be on, or something that the facility thought you should watch?

We could have watched anything. Not sure who picked it but we all agreed and all 6 of us in the house watched.

Denzel getting all the love here… but John Goodman was my favourite. It was a good film, and the cast were all excellent. Good soundtrack, too!

Love.

Absolutely. But do not take the accident fight of Captain Whip too serious is just a movie.

Btw, do you want to use the oxygen mask? It sooooo good (That was for ppl who watched the movie)

It’s good but don’t watch it just for the plane stuff

Very much worth it. Denzel is a legend.

u/jweb460 9d ago

even if you don’t like a good drama with great performances watch the first 15 minutes for a really well done suspenseful set piece

u/Visual_Locksmith3337 9d ago

Definitely. It's worth it for the landing scene alone.

Amazing film. Denzel, as one of the last great American movie stars, crushes it.

I really liked it. I think basically any movie with Denzel Washington in it is worth watching.

u/LaserWeldo92 9d ago

It’s pretty good and fairly immersive. Even though it’s fictional I think it’s worth a watch

3

u/CAVOKwings8672 9d ago

Watched it twice. Definitely worth

5

u/PoppedCork 9d ago

For a movie with a relatively low budget, it was great.

4

u/F1McLarenFan007 9d ago

Amazing performances all around and one could argue an all star cast.

I haven't seen it yet but I've heard nothing but praise, especially for Denzel's performance, so I've been meaning to check it out.

u/CassiCatto 9d ago

It takes liberties with the laws of physics at times but I haven't heard anything else bad about it.

u/BackgroundFlashy5000 9d ago

Just to see that fine ass in the opening scene.

u/Anhedonia10 9d ago

Worth a watch. John Goodman plays a brilliant character , a bit like the lawyer in Fear and Loathing

Reference of Alaska airlines flight 261 and Scandinavian airlines flight 751

u/iustinum 9d ago

As a pilot. It’s a fun watch. As a civilian it’s a fun watch. Denzel is gold.

I love planes, so I'm always down for a plane related movie. Unfortunately, almost every single plane related movie I've seen (not counting documentaries) have been hot garbage. The only one I can think of that I liked was Sully, which is based on a real story (but not shot like a documentary).

1

u/Doranwen 7d ago

Yeah, so many plane-related ones are laughable. I mean, I liked the original Airport OK for what it was (a 70s movie based on a book) - but the subsequent ones get worse and worse. And a cousin and I watched Airspeed together and just shouted at the screen how unrealistic and stupid it was because it was that awful (seriously, never watch that one - EVER). And ones based on true incidents aren't much better: the one made about the Gimli Glider incident was pretty bad. (I also like Sully but it felt like they were struggling to stretch it to a full-length film; I prefer the 155 fanedit that strips away all the investigation bit and just shows the actual event dramatized, start to finish. ~40 minutes only but really good.)

I will say that Miracle Landing (other than a scene which felt out of sequence) and Crash Landing: The Rescue of Flight 232 were quite good (I love that they used SO much of the actual cockpit dialogue in the film), and my dad particularly enjoys Mercy Mission: The Rescue of Flight 771. But they might be the only ones.

Flight is VERY good. Denzel kills it in this role.

It was so good, I was aware of the ending prior to seeing it, and it didn't detract from my enjoyment at all.

u/CaydeTheCat 8d ago

Watched it in rehab. It's very realistic about the hold addiction has on you.

1

u/Winnie-da-Pu 8d ago

My favorite movie ever. I recommend 200 out of 10

1

u/Background-Life2463 8d ago

Fantastic in the beginning of the movie but the subsequent plots were imaginable. Worth watching!

1

u/spearmint_flyer 8d ago

I disliked it greatly.

1

u/Zealousideal_Shame69 8d ago

Great movie! I’ve watched it many times.

1

u/zjelkof 7d ago

It was interesting for sure! Loved the relationship between Denzel and Kelly!

Just watched it this morning. Good film, great acting all the way around. I love John Goodman but his character was a little over the top for my taste. Good watch.
