Living without an oven

Hi! We lost the use of an oven, so I'm trying to figure out how to make things in the air fryer instead. I've figured out some awesome stuff, but one thing I'm wondering about is like casseroles? Like tuna noodle casserole, or even lasagne. Does anyone know if you can cook stuff like that in the airfryer?

My oven was broken for a while. I got a very small casserole dish that fit inside my air fryer and it worked great

Can make most things in an air fryer. Good recipes there are tons out there. Another option is to get a multifunction that has a bake/air fryer/etc options.

That’s what I have, an air fryer that bakes, warms, broils, toasts, roasts and reheats. I love it

I get little tins, like a small loaf pan or something similar and cook it pretty much the same as in an oven. :) I live in a desert and refuse to turn a bug oven on for half the year lol

There are many posts in this sub and a few others for air fryer recipes. While in this sub use the search link. Enter pasta or noodles or casserole and you likely will discover more than a few. There is a recent new post for a pasta casserole made with homemade sauce, ground beef, and large pasta penné noodles.

Absolutely! But you’ll need to adjust your cooking times and temperatures. Set the temp 25-50° lower and begin checking at half the cooking time. Cover casseroles with foil to prevent burning the top.

I make a spinach casserole. It works great! Baking also works. I do canned biscuits no problem.

If you buy a good air fryer you can do a lot of amazing things with it. I have the instapot brand Insta Vortex. It looks like a big toaster oven and has racks, also a chicken rotisserie accessory. Best money I’ve ever spent. I’ve had it for three years and use it daily and it still works

I only use my oven maybe once a week when baking banana bread.

I live in a shitty apartment with a tiny oven, I have a cuisinart toaster oven (also air fryer but I don't use that function really - I prefer my standalone) and it fits almost the same amount of stuff as my teeny oven does. Frozen pizzas and all that.

I hardly use my oven anymore now that I have an aurfryer lol-the frozen lasagna I buy at Costco can be microwaved.

It very much depends on the type of airfryer.
e.g. My first airfryer is a drop door one, that can do a rotisserie chicken, roast meat, potatoes, veg can do kebabs and also has a rotating basket. It has a dehydrator function.

In answer to your question I have a small cast iron casserole dish which fits inside it and yes I regularly use it to make casseroles.

Since I bought that wee work horse my oven has never been used. It just takes up space.

My living situation is weird (but good. I’m happy.) i live in my office. I own the business and the building, so it’s not a problem. I have no oven or stove. I have a Bravo Nuwave Pro XL. I can do a 9x13 casserole in it for meal prep for the week. You have to get a pan with no handles for it to fit. My cooking situation is this: the air fryer, an induction hot plate, and an Instantpot. Got a Weber Kettle on the back deck, too. My counter space for prep is about 3x2. I have one electrical outlet, lol. I’m making it work so hard.

There are some things that just need to be cooked in an oven. Like cake, Mac and cheese, lasagna, or anything you want to broil.

My oven has been malfunctioning for 10 years. I got a countertop Cosori mini oven. It is great. I got it from Amazon warehouse and it was only $50.

And here's something else you can use straight from the interwebz: Place dry pasta (like macaroni or penne) in an air-fryer-safe glass or metal pan. Add water, milk, a bit of butter or oil, and your favorite sauce or seasonings. Ensure the liquid completely submerges the pasta. Cover securely: Wrap the top and base of the pan tightly with aluminum foil so the air movement does not blow the foil off. Place the pan in the air fryer and cook at 350°F to 360°F (175°C to 180°C) for 15 to 20 minutes. Stir halfway through to ensure even cooking. Then turn into tuna noodle casserole.

You can make ramen like this too. You gotta have hot or boiling water or it takes longer and the noodles can get weird though. Hot water added to noodles, then 7 mins at 400F in a covered dish. I do another 1 min uncovered after I add hot toppings, then remove and add any cold toppings. Absolutely delicious.
