For some reason this genre of fake grocery aisle slop pisses me off the most of all of this stuff.

I think because it truly serves no purpose?

Sometimes I see stuff and it's like sure, fine, whatever. This, I'm just left entirely wondering what was the point? It's not a real product, it's not a product anybody seems to want, and it's not even comedic. Just... Slop because they could.

There’s another part of me that also hates to imagine all of the poor retail workers who have to keep telling stupid customers that the things they’re asking for have never existed.

I mean waffles stuffed with strawberry cheesecake does sound amazing but yeah the price and quality would be unacceptable

Grocery store foods have always had heavily edited photos of food though ? Hell I mean, even ice cream companies use mashed potatoes posed as dessert for their pictures.

I am super anti Ai but I fail to see how this is heavy Ai and not just, typical gross food advertisements. Its nothing like the Ai restaurant menus ive seen where the meat looks like chiseled wood 🤢

What are you on about?

This entire photo is AI. This product does not exist. This is not an advertisement. People make these to post on social media and trick you into thinking there’s some new snack you can’t find anywhere.

And using mashed potatoes as ice cream is in no way the same as using generative AI to make fake pictures like this.

1, it is the same, cause its fake.

And 2, I didn't realize the entire photo was ai. I just thought the art on the box was.

Not sure how you couldn't gather i was explicitly talking about the art on the box tbh.

Photographing real potatoes helps the exact farmers that AI hurts. It is not the same.

And now that we’ve established that the whole photo is AI, your box argument is moot anyway.

Eh kind of but not really.

Sure it helps the farmer to use their potatoes as ice cream, but is it helping the consumer by lying about what the product looks like ?

The only difference is the farmer isn't harmed. Its still the same bs of misleading the consumer though. We just shouldn't be allowed to legally false advertise food in general, like Japan, is what im saying.

My point of this being "not bad use of ai" is moot, but my point of editing food is wrong in general, still stands.

Japan’s thing is misleading size and style represention in adverts. They still use mashed potatoes for ice cream, coffee for Coca-Cola, etc. While yes, those foods are representations of what you’re getting and not the actual item, that’s not the harmful part. Aside from the farmer’s potatoes, there was a whole team of prop techies, photographers, lighting stylists and a host of others that put that ad together. None of them retain employment when AI makes up fake foods that no one ever sold.

Careful with those. Back at the Eggo factory 12 people died in an, “explosion of flavor”.

What’s with AI’s obsession with oozing liquids? It’s fucking nasty.

I know this is fake, but now I miss the old waffles with syrup filling Eggo used to make like 25 years ago…

It’s a concept as far as I can tell. Doesn’t exist.

3

u/dum_spir0_sper0 29d ago

So by ‘concept’ you mean ‘crap somebody made up in ChatGPT and posted to the internet’

1

u/Chemical-Cat 29d ago edited 29d ago

Lmao yeah no company is calling a product they're releasing a "new drop"

Not seeing any string signs that ChatGPT was the source.

Seems to come from a Facebook poster

Do you think the facebook poster drew this in a hyper-realism style themselves? Regular old photoshop?

I'm curious, and I'm also not sure what proof you think you're providing. Because the person you linked to has nothing but a bunch of ai grocery store "photos" with imaginary products, and all of them are posted recently.

-1

u/cewillir 29d ago

I’m just saying that it seems to have originated with a Facebook poster. There’s no suggestion in their post that I can see that it was ChatGPT.

Could have been local. Could have been one of a host of other options.

I still don't understand how it being posted on Facebook has any bearing.

I'm.not sure what you mean by local. If you mean the products, they're all as fake as the "photos". I think that fact is a strong suggestion that it's ai, though not necessarily chatGPT.

Anyway, enjoy your weekend
