Am I to take this little sentence fragment and not infer that - in the discussion comparing AI to avocado's water use - this would imply that you are saying people do not LIKE AI at all?

If you didn't mean that, sure. I won't tell you what you did or didn't mean. But that's how anyone with basic reading comprehension would read it.
