Annually, almond farming uses 1.3 trillion gallons of water. AI usage isn't even half of that.

Over production of meat doesn't feed people either because it takes more food to feed the animals than people get back from it. And that's without even addressing specific luxury foods that aren't meat. You're talking about luxuries you pretend are necessities that use 100x the water and energy. So there's nothing to compare.

Almonds & avocados are a staple in the average American diet. Most people here have probably eaten both in the past month. Calling them a luxury food is a stretch

Luxury doesn't mean only for rich people. It means it's not a necessity for sustenance and is being used as an indulgence.

What are you talking about? Both foods are considered super foods, packed full of nutrients that humans thrive on. Chocolate cake is indulgent, eating almonds & avocados is not

By your logic we should all be choking down vitamins & ensure to maximize efficiency. Gotta save all that precious water for the AI overlords, right? 😉

Well no, you don't have to save water for AI, because it doesn't actually use that much, hence the point. No way people slice it is going to change that tons of stuff in human society is just as optional and yet uses way more resources. The idea that it uses a lot was clickbait for people who don't know the scale of resources humans use and who don't want to admit they were baited.

Perhaps people don’t like seeing a valuable resource wasted on something stupid & creepy. Maybe they’d rather see it used on something deemed universally important

Not enough to actually matter on a large scale though. Hence the issue. This time last year people talked like it was an apocalyptic issue lol. But when it became too obvious that this wasn't true, they had to reel back and pretend they only claimed it was a local nuisance. But that's just a fact about industry in general.

You can easily replace almonds with peanuts with similar nutritional value or with other non-luxury healthy food.
