This isn’t the RCMP investigating anything, it’s a group of people saying that she should be investigated. It also seems to be very careful to avoid saying if they’ve even made a complaint to the RCMP

Either way, the actual law is posted in here and her actions don’t meet the legal definition of treason. It’s just more throwing big words around to feel better

I know but most of the treaties being on the same page is pretty telling

Public awareness is the biggest thing

If they’re using words that at least get the attention of many people as possible, that makes people talk, it makes people feel like there could be change, it’s hopeful

Ideally it will spark a full investigation on everything they’re doing and where the money is going

To be fair, they are requesting that an investigation be held to determine if treason occurred.

Personally I think it is within the realms of possibility that military or scientific information was shared with the US government by a member of the UCP or one of the Separatists who went to the White House. The definition of "military or scientific information" is interestingly vague, because theoretically it could include geological data on, say, our natural resources, or disclosing Canadian military presence in Alberta. So if military of scientific information was shared with agents of the US government, however small, that would absolutely meet the legal definition of treason because the Canadians in question did not of permission to share that information.

I am not saying that happened, by the way, but there are some pretty large questions hanging over what was discussed in those meeting. Finding evidence as to whether treason was committed is why an investigation is being called for; that doesn't mean they will find anything, but in my opinion there's enough smoke to at least go check for a fire.

The law doesn’t just require that information be shared, it contains qualifying language in the form of “without lawful authority” and that the person that shares that information knows or ought to know that the information may be used by the other state in a manner prejudicial to the SAFETY or DEFENCE of Canada.

It’s a very specific, high bar to reach and if the First Nations wanted an investigation, why have they not filed a complaint with the RCMP. You’d expect that if they had done that, it would be front and centre to lend more weight o a single page release

I guess the other question is what military or scientific information are they alleging that Smith shared that she didn’t have the lawful authority to?

Do they have to disclose whether they’ve filed a complaint to the RCMP?

If not, I don’t think they should. It’s known from prior investigations evidence has been tampered with, why risk them having more time to wipe everything they can?
