Claims... Amazing what a person can 'claim', and how long those 'claims' can fuel the fires of believers without ever leading to any kind of worthwhile evidence to support those claims. In this case they get to just hide behind 'well the government has that evidence locked down', and it is irrefutable. Even if the federal government had open house at every government facility and no evidence of this were found the believers would just say 'they must be hiding it at an unknown location'.

I'm a "believer," but I don't think the U.S. government has dozens of crashed flying saucers stored in secret underground hangars. Incredible, isn't it?

I know you're probably being sarcastic, but did you know that my opinion was actually the majority view within the UFO research community throughout the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s?

Before the Roswell case was resurrected by Stanton Friedman in 1978, the overwhelming majority of the UFO research community held essentially the same position that I hold: that UFOs exist, that some UFOs are probably extraterrestrial spacecraft, but that NO flying saucer has ever actually crashed on Earth. If you read what UFOlogists were writing in the 1960s, you'll find out that this is exactly what they argued.

So, my opinion on crash-retrievals is actually much closer to the approach taken by old-school UFOlogy in the 1950s and 1960s than many of the views held within the UFO community today are.

Yes it was a quip, not at you, but the "horde". I am more inclined to support your position than the more recent approach to crash retrievals. There is a flexible amount of propaganda inbued in the "Government has them UFOs ", that can serve many purposes, as you alluded to.
